Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Alright, big last hour coming up very, very shortly with Sydney coach Dean Cox. Full crew from Kogan.
Mate, I don't know who's in the office today, but I'll tell you one thing, right? That's the news at 8 o'clock. Zach Lyle is supposed to be here to welcome these people to the premises. Late. Late. Late. It's like the double agent was late. There's a policy that needs some correction here. Four minutes late now.
And counting. Yep. So there's some fireball feedback for him. And level five should be all over that.
I'd like to know what Dean Cox would do about this tardiness.
Wouldn't be happy with it. For Harvey Norman, best brands, best range, best gifts for mum. Shop in store and online at Harvey Norman. Dean Cox is the Sydney coach. He joins us. Coxie, thanks for your time. Thank you. Thanks for having me. How do you deal with little indiscretions, Coxie? A bit different back in our day, probably.
Are you a bit more relaxed with players that are late or are the standards still there?
No, I think certainly back when Woosh was coaching, if the door was shut, you would never want to enter it. Don't come in sort of five minutes before the meeting and start the door shut. So, no, I'm a little bit more flexible in that, you know, provided most of the players, they might be getting some treatment or doing something around the football club. So I'll always take that into account.
The days are gone when they come in smelling of a little bit of Black Sand Booker or something. Coxie, is that what you're saying?
Yeah, no, they're gone. Yep, yep.

Chapter 2: How do players prepare for games differently?
They have their own
method to do that so whether some players are out on the ground for a long time, some players sit in the change rooms, some players do their mental prep at certain times of the warm-up so for me it's about individualising that and making sure that every player is aware of how they perform at their best and what they've got to do to perform at their best and we're pretty flexible with that.
We have our standardised time on the ground to do a warm-up and also team meetings but outside of that You know, if they get there and one player comes to me and says, I don't want to go on the bus or, you know, I'll go a little bit later, I'm open to that as well.
Coxie, do you feel like you're setting the trend in the competition this year? The forward handball game, the work with the, you know, we call it the stand ball, the handball that fixes the man on the mark to the standing position. It's a through ball in soccer style handball. Do you feel like this is something that you've generated so early?
One, it's hard to protect what teams are going to do against you now because they're going to get 15 weeks to look at you. And two, the competition will start to mimic what you're doing?
I think the competition's been doing it for a little bit. And every side has the way that they primarily play. And they'll make tweaks to that. But I think one thing we looked at towards the back in the last year was the ability to try and generate more speed on the ball and how we do that from a turnover situation. And a lot of people are talking about the stand rule.
Our ability to try and open the ball up as quickly as we possibly can through those situations is really important. But that doesn't mean as well that at times we want to try and use an uncontested mark to shift the ball to try and get it into a better position to then try and open the game up. So I think, you know, you look at sides, GWS are really high for hairball meters game.
Gold Coast are really high for hairball meters game. Brisbane probably a little bit more straighter uncontested mark team. So every team has their method. And, you know, I thought this is probably what we need to do as a football club. And we've spent a lot of time on it.
Nick Blakey back into form this season. He's been unbelievable off a half-back flank. He's probably the premier run-and-gun ball distributor in the competition right now. How have you got him back to this level in 2026?

Chapter 3: What changes have been made to the ball movement strategy?
That's what we do. And whether a kid gets drafted to us, We get a choice over that, and great. But we want as many as possible get drafted. So I think probably putting them in the same is the wrong thing to do. And for us, the time and effort and money that we do put in to try and get talent on our list, if someone else gets that talent, well then how do we get compensated as well?
If State of Origin was the same next year as it was this, would you be happy to sign off on that as coach?
Um... I think the feedback certainly we gave some of the AFL as a sort of a coaching fraternity and people that were involved was the time and the speed of the game was just, that was too quick.
You know, I think whether that's more players that you've got, whether it goes to a squad of 30, you get the ability to be able to rotate minutes through because, you know, we went from an intra club to a state of origin game, which was probably faster than the opening round or round one game. So, Yeah, we've just got to be aware of the players. It is a long year, and we need to get that right.
All right. Now, we like to do this from time to time. A bit of pick and stick. You know the rules. You can only choose one. You're under the gun. That's the music. That's the get serious music. That's the truth serum of music. Fagan or Chris Scott?
Fakes. Heaney or Goulden?
Which daughter I like better? Isaac to this day.
Leon Cameron or Simon Goodwin?
Leon. Leon's my boss. Wise choice. Wise choice. Corns or King? Four. Four. porn. I thought we were better than that. I've been sticking up for you drinking piss with the cricket all this time. I stuck up for you when you were cast.
