Before we get into all that, the light of the day, I'm joined by Evan Priest from Golf Digest to talk about last week's golf. Evan, thanks for coming on the pod.
No, no worries at all. Yeah, it's a little bit jarring for me to be back here. This is Royal Lytham 2012. Adam Scott, four bogeys to finish. Oh, I know. So hopefully, maybe an Aussie or a Kiwi could right the wrongs this week.
Oh, I still think about it all the time. His name was on that Claret jug, wasn't it? I think they were starting to engrave it. I know, poor Adam Scott. Well, he made up for it by winning the Masters eight months later. Let's talk about last week first. And Evan, the Jackson Coithin era is here. I mean, we heard this name so much for the last couple of years. And we thought, yeah, we hear this all the time. Players come on with all this hype and then they kind of fizzle out. Third start as a professional and he's already a PGA Tour winner.
It's unbelievable. I have a bit of a take on this, which I think people are forgetting about. I think the greatest thing to come out of the professional golf divide the last four years is PGA Tour University.

Do we see this scenario if he wasn't number one on the PGA Tour University a year ago? That's how he got his card. So it took that stressful journey through the Korn Ferry Tour onto the PGA Tour, and he had the confidence to go out and swing freely. I think that's one of the big reasons why he won last week. So, I mean, it wouldn't surprise anyone. He had three top tens on the PGO Tour as an amateur, comes out of college firing, and it's pretty exciting. We've got the next big star on our doorstep. He's so polished as well, isn't he?
I don't think there's a weakness in the game. He just does everything really well. And he looks like a star already, and he speaks like a star already.
And some of them sometimes have the physical package, like every part of the game is great. But everyone says that his mentality is his number one asset. And that's like, that's when you enter that sort of Rory, Cam Smith, Scotty Scheffler territory where they're kind of invincible. You know, like they're always going to find a way to get around the golf course because they have that mentality, that competitive advantage. So that's why we see Scotty Scheffler pretty much in the top five every single week. It's amazing to watch. And like, it's a really exciting time to be golf reporters on the scene. You know, we're getting this. This is the next Jordan Spieth. We're looking at him.
Yeah, well, that's it. I've seen comparisons to Justin Thomas as well, which I think is partly to do with the swings up on his tiptoes when he makes contact with the ball and just how he's so polished and all ready to complete package. And people may say, well, it's the 3M Open. And look, it's not a stellar field, but the three men that finished behind him, Scotty Scheffler, the best player on the planet, Brian Harmon, Hideki Matsuyama, they're all major champions. It's pretty good company.
It's amazing. I always think about, it's not the golf course. Everyone's playing the same golf course. It's who did you beat in the field? And as you mentioned, the company that he was in last week is incredible. So to go from there, the next step is to win maybe a players' championship, maybe contend in a President's Cup.
