What were the highlights of Rangers' victory against Livingston?
Welcome to the Sky Sports Scottish Football Podcast from here at the Tony Macaroni Arena, where we've just watched Rangers come and beat Livingston 2-0 on their own patch. I'm joined by Andy Walker, Chris Boyd and Graham Dorans. And Andy, was it any warmer up in the commentary box than it is down here?
I've always got Ian Crocker to have a little cuddle with, so that's a lot of cuddling there.
Yeah, we should have got Crocks down here. There's plenty of cuddle into there, isn't there? No, it was a solid team performance. from Rangers this afternoon?
Very impressed with Rangers. They've had a good run of away games. They had the high of Thursday night in that performance in Europe. And this is always a difficult place to come to. And I thought there was a bit of spice before the game with the manager's comments. And I think that helped Rangers get a wee bit of focus. They matched the physical challenge and eventually their better players came to the fore. And no surprise to see Morelos getting another goal.
Yeah, he's been incredible as a fellow striker, Chris. We spoke a lot about Morelos when we were doing the coverage, but he just seems to deliver all the time at the moment.
22 goals already. It's fantastic. It's a great return, but it's the way he's scoring goals now as well. We spoke about it after the match there. Andy will tell you as well, as a striker, you're trying to look for those little gaps between defender's legs and goalkeeper, and as soon as he gets it, bang, it's away. It's very difficult for the goalkeeper to see it. And I think that's one thing that all top strikers will do, they'll look for that little defender trying to block it, open his legs and straight through it. A lot of people think it's easy, but you're maybe taking another touch, waiting for him to do it, open his legs and then as soon as he does, straight through it.
He's still got that anger in his game, but it's much more controlled. He's channelling it in all the right directions, and it's for the benefit of the team. He's spending more minutes on the pitch, and last season it was just unacceptable, his lack of discipline.
Was he like that in training as well, Graham?
It's always the same, aye.
Cards out of training.
I think, like you say, they are channelling it in the right way, and you can see that today. It wasn't his best of games, but... when he gets in the end positions, and he's 1v1 with the defender, he uses his body so well, he's so strong, and it's a great finish, as you say, through the defender's leg.
Yeah, we've had a tweet as well from one of our viewers asking what you think the value would be for Morelos, considering his age, considering what Kieran Tierney went for, similar age going down to Arsenal in the summer.
Well, I've seen when you see some of the transfers that have been paid down the road, the numbers are crazy. But, you know, for me, Strikers are very hard to come by, especially ones that are scoring goals. I've said it the other day in my column, Rangers, especially in January, they can't accept anything from him. He's been, this season, Graham touched on it at half-time, in terms of how he's improved, not only his goal scoring, his all-round play, he's been excellent right now on the form of his life. To answer the question, It'll be the summer, and to be fair, it could be anything in terms of north of 20 million, because he can score goals, and it's very, very difficult to get a striker that's doing that right now in world football.
And he is the... where strikers are in world football right now in terms of working the back four, asking problems, because a lot of teams play one up front. He can do the lot. He can do it. He's shown that in the big stage in Europe. I've always had the criticism against Celtic as well.
How has Morelos performed this season for Rangers?
I know how eager he will be to score more against Celtic, but he'll be hoping that that comes, and if that does come, then there'll be more money added on to it. But for me, it'll be north of £20 million.
What do you think? You've played down there fairly recently.
