Yes, that's right, the Premier League return to a doubleheader on Wednesday evening with Aston Villa taking on Sheffield United, followed by Man City versus Arsenal. So there's loads to look forward to, and we're going to be discussing some of the big storylines and the big talking points, and what we can expect from this Premier League return on this show. I'm Peter Smith, the Sky Sports Football Features Editor, and to help me preview all of that, I'm going to be joined by Sky Sports News reporter James Cooper, our digital journalist Nick Wright and Oliver Yu. Yeah, very well. Good to see you, Peter. How are you?
How could Liverpool clinch the title during the upcoming matches?
Yeah, good. Thank you, mate. Good. Jamie, the Premier League is back on Wednesday. We know there won't be fans in the stands and there'll be other measures in place for health and safety reasons, of course. So it won't be quite the same as before lockdown. But how exciting is it to have the Premier League back?
Yeah, I'm really excited, Peter. It's going to be different. Obviously, the product's different. But I think we've seen what's happened in Germany. You can make it work. And the same in Spain. Now their football started again. And I think right now we just need that release. We need to see some, you know, the sporting fix of football back in our lives. So hopefully it will be good. the entertainment, the excitement will be back and I think it will just do the whole country a lot of good right now because obviously difficult time right now for people and hopefully football will just give us that little release sometimes that we need because at the moment it's a tough time for everybody.
Yeah, absolutely. A positive distraction, hopefully, for people. But for Liverpool fans, it's going to be potentially a very special moment in the next week or so, depending on how results go. They could win it on Sunday against Everton or perhaps against Crystal Palace the following Wednesday. It's not how they imagined it might be. There won't be that open-top bus parade just yet, but it'll still be a special moment, I guess, for fans from Anfield.
Absolutely, Pete. It's been 30 years. It's a long, long time to wait for that to happen. I think all the teams that are coming back now, whether you're in a relegation fight or you're vying to try and get in the top four, there'll be a lot of nerves. There'll be people that are worried about getting relegated. But I think the one team that are going to come back I just cannot wait to get started is Liverpool because they're, they know what's ahead of them. They, you know, they are probably buzzing. I was talking to Jordan Henderson a couple of weeks ago. He came on our show and he was just, you can see it in his eyes. He's so pleased that football started because they want to win it in the best way possible.
It's not going to be ideal. The fans aren't going to be there. It's not going to be in the ideal environment for them, but they need to get their hands on that trophy. They deserve it.
What challenges do teams face playing without fans in the stadium?
No matter whether you're a Liverpool fan or not, I think we can all acknowledge it's a very special football team that Jürgen Klopp's created. And the fact that they're going to get their hands on the trophy, be it in one week, two weeks or whenever it is, it's correct.
