24 Nov 2019

Transcription

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

3.98 - 15.982 Unknown

Welcome to the Goals on Sunday podcast. Thanks for listening. Our two guests today obviously were Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood from Burley, who were fantastic, Alex. But we had so much to talk about today, didn't we?

0

16.002 - 19.088 Alex Scott

We did. It was fun. Lots of VAR drama, as always.

0

Chapter 2: What insights do Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood share about Burnley's recent win?

19.128 - 20.63 Alex Scott

You talking about set plays.

0

21.131 - 21.312 Unknown

Yeah.

0

21.352 - 22.073 Alex Scott

It was a good one.

0

26.187 - 33.934 Unknown

Great to see you. It's a first for goals on Sunday. Two strikers, or two players, who have actually scored the previous day. Thank you for coming on. No problem.

0

33.954 - 34.975 Chris Wood

We made it easy for you. Don't worry.

36.937 - 39.459 Unknown

What do you think of Jose Mourinho going to Spurs?

40.541 - 55.975 Chris Wood

Wow. He's a top-class manager and going in at a good club and things like that. So it'll probably be a good fit. But it'll be something different that he's never had to work with before. Maybe not as much money as he's used to and things like that. So he'll have to use his squad wisely. But he's got a great squad there.

56.225 - 57.827 Unknown

What about you Ash?

57.847 - 78.975 Ashley Barnes

Yeah I think obviously a top manager you know it'll be interesting to see how he gets on there like Chris said topped on there obviously with the money situation he's always had the funds to spend but this is going to be obviously to see if he can get the best out of the players first and obviously I think

Chapter 3: What are the implications of Jose Mourinho's appointment at Tottenham Hotspur?

131.707 - 147.241 Chris Wood

Exactly, and they could be the force that they were once before and the team that they made to the Champions League final. So hopefully they'll get back to what they're good at because it's nice seeing them play when they're on top form.

147.261 - 166.309 Unknown

We've had a text from the gaffer. Sean Dice's text is in and said, where is it? Let me try and find it. He says, tell him to stop saying obviously on every answer. And he said also tell him it's good feedback and part of his development.

0

167.45 - 173.357 Ashley Barnes

Obviously he's watching. LAUGHTER I'm sure he has something bad to do than sit on the couch and watch this.

0

174.117 - 176.86 Unknown

Hey, what are you talking about? It's a great show!

0

177.281 - 177.441

LAUGHTER

179.648 - 210.449 Unknown

Obviously it is. Right, this is really interesting. Last Saturday, two weeks ago, wasn't it, before the international break, Chris Wilder was our guest, right? And we were talking when we went for a cup of tea after the show. Right. And he told me something that I didn't know. And my apologies to VAR and everybody else. I'm holding my hands up. I did not know this because it's ridiculous, right?

210.909 - 222.328 Unknown

And how ridiculous it is, is if I'm the defender, right, and I play you onside with my arm, it doesn't count. It's going to go from my armpit. Did you know this?

222.528 - 233.967 Chris Wood

See, I only found this out about two, three weeks ago and told Barnsley this morning about it because we never got told anything like that or in any of the meetings that it was from the arm gets taken off both ways.

233.987 - 234.828 Unknown

From the defender's armpit, yeah?

Chapter 4: Why have Tottenham's recent results been inconsistent this season?

306.692 - 309.775 Chris Wood

So it should be just any part of the body from a defender.

0

309.755 - 334.513 Alex Scott

That's the thing, like how you just said, there's still so many blurred lines and even players like yourself don't even know what's going on, which is the frustrating thing. But obviously, we've still got loads of cover goals on Sunday. We're finding time to grill our guests on their careers. Chris, we are going to start off with you. You came over to, what, England when you were 16, 17? Yeah.

0

334.544 - 351.349 Chris Wood

Yeah, well, 15, 16, so yeah, moved over when I was quite young and things like that. Luckily, my family, well, my mum and dad moved over with me. Left my sister at home, which was a bit harsh, but she had the rest of the family to keep her happy and keep her in line and things like that. How old was your sister?

0

351.97 - 365.728 Chris Wood

She was 18, so she was just going into uni, so dad got her settled in uni in that sense, and then he moved over with my mum afterwards. Must be your favourite one, don't you? Well, if you ask my sister, she would say it is, but she is definitely the golden child in the group.

0

366.369 - 368.472 Unknown

Were they hoping to come back to England as well then?

369.012 - 386.713 Chris Wood

No, no. Mum's English and Dad's a Kiwi, but Mum never really wanted to come back to England. She wanted to stay in New Zealand for the rest of her life. But as fortune tells her, I got something over here, so she decided to come back with me. But they'll always end up going back there one day, I think probably when I retire.

387.554 - 390.117 Alex Scott

Was it tough for you to make that move and start over here?

390.215 - 406.384 Chris Wood

When I was that young I didn't really think too much of it or anything like that but as I got older it kind of explained itself more to me that it is a big move and a big step but as a kid you just don't really understand or anything like that you just want to go play football and luckily that's what I did.

406.533 - 411.04 Alex Scott

And in the early part of your career, you had a lot of loan moves. Do you feel that helped you develop as a player?

Chapter 5: What challenges do players face when adapting to new managerial styles?

446.683 - 455.119 Chris Wood

I knew I wasn't going to start on the first team at West Brom every week, so I knew, well, why don't I go somewhere to play games and score goals, hopefully, and...

0

455.099 - 474.897 Chris Wood

make a name for myself so hopefully one day I could go back to West Brom as a player and that's what it was but it didn't work out like that and I had to move on to other places but it's where I learnt my trade and by the time I was 28 I had 100 appearances down on me Where did you enjoy the most apart from Burnley obviously now in your build up to getting you moved to Burnley?

0

475.079 - 492.226 Chris Wood

To be fair, I've enjoyed most places. I had a good stint with this guy down at Brighton when we won League One down there. Loved my time at Millwall as well, even though it can be a tough place to play, but we were doing well. Loved it there and loved living in around London and things like that.

0

492.787 - 502.943 Chris Wood

And then Leicester and Leeds have been fantastic as well, even though at Leeds I had a bit of a rough patch as well and it wasn't always smooth sailing there, but in the end it came good and it was a good time.

0

503.345 - 507.799 Unknown

Let's have a look at some of your time at Leeds United, then you know how passionate the fans are there.

508.802 - 528.951 Chris Wood

Yeah, passionate is definitely a word for it. But they're good in a sense. When they're behind you and they love you, they're one of the best fans probably in the country. But when they don't take to you or have a bit of a hold against you, they'll let you know about it. And they let you know very loudly and very vocally.

529.592 - 537.503 Chris Wood

But that's because they've got such a big fan base and obviously they have high expectations of what the club should be. And hopefully they get back there one day.

537.483 - 540.666 Alex Scott

And then from that, your move to Burnley happened.

540.966 - 556.921 Chris Wood

Yeah, exactly. It was nice. I scored quite a few goals at Leeds, and then luckily Burnley came in for me and got my chance to play in the Premier League, which is something that I've always wanted to do. But it's taken a number of years to get here, but finally I'm lucky I'm here and actually doing all right.
