Chapter 2: How did Everton secure their victory against Newcastle?

61.704 - 85.307 David Jones

A new series of Westworld has just started on Sky Atlantic and catch up on Series 1 on Catch Up Right Now. Our guest tonight is the Belgian manager Roberto Martinez here with Thierry Henry. We'll hear their thoughts in just a moment. Before then, we can speak to tonight's match winner, Theo Walcott. Very good evening to you, Theo. Congratulations. Thanks for speaking to us as well.

0

85.327 - 86.788 David Jones

How satisfying was that?

0

88.169 - 94.561 Theo Walcott

Yeah, very satisfying, actually, to be honest. You know, we were under a lot of pressure towards the end there.

0

Chapter 3: What strategies did Everton use to maintain their lead?

94.601 - 99.571 Theo Walcott

We held on, and you ask Thierry, as any striker, if it finishes 1-0, you've done your job.

0

101.374 - 104.44 David Jones

It did feel like they were coming back into the game. Why do you think that was, Theo?

0

105.753 - 121.789 Theo Walcott

I felt that we did allow a lot of pressure. We started to get deeper and deeper. I think before that, Jonjo got on the ball a lot more and started to control it, and then obviously he came off. But they put us under a lot of pressure towards the end, and I've got to say, Seamus' defensive header at the end was just as good as my goal really was.

0

122.31 - 125.517 David Jones

Yeah, did that feel like a really match-defining moment?

0

126.796 - 129.32 Theo Walcott

Yeah, completely. You know, it's the last kick of the game, obviously.

Chapter 4: How did the players react to the pressure during the match?

129.36 - 139.014 Theo Walcott

Everyone was switched on. Everyone did their defensive jobs. The fans tonight were fantastic, all behind us. That's what we want. And it was a much-needed three points after, you know, a couple of disappointing results.

0

139.936 - 147.387 David Jones

We saw you switching flanks at time during the game, Theo. Was that something that you talked about beforehand with the manager or just something he decided on the evening?

0

149.138 - 165.123 Theo Walcott

No, the gaffer felt he wanted to change it at half-time. We were getting a lot of joy on the right-hand side and he wanted to change it. And, you know, it was a sense that, you know, coming inside to finish off the game onto my stronger foot, get a bit closer to Cenk and play off him a bit more.

0

Chapter 5: What insights did Thierry Henry and Roberto Martinez share about the game?

165.564 - 181.012 Theo Walcott

And it worked. It definitely worked. But we still had to get control of the game and kill it off, really. You know, we want to kill off games like that. It was there to, you know, there's a few goals in there tonight, but I'm glad the guys, they dug in tonight. I can't even get my breath back.

0

182.615 - 197.286 Thierry Henry

Theo, this is Thierry. Well done on the goal and the win, much needed win. I wanted to ask you something. Since we're talking about switching and you being on the left at time tonight, why you never actually...

0

Chapter 6: What are the implications of Everton's recent performance for the season?

197.266 - 211.09 Thierry Henry

enjoyed not enjoyed playing there but playing there on the wing because you can bend the ball well i've seen it so many times when you can curve it in the top corner and you can be lethal playing on the left i still find it difficult to see you with that shirt but anyway that's only me

0

213.618 - 229.933 Theo Walcott

You're not used to it now. No, I'm used to it. No, no, no. It's something I'm used to. I'm thinking about next season more so. I think the gaff is trying it out a little bit more. And, yeah, I've scored a lot of good goals on the left-hand side to join in with, especially when you have one man up front. I feel like at times you can be isolated up front on your own.

0

230.033 - 239.802 Theo Walcott

But, you know, the fact I can have licence to come in off the line and to get involved a bit more in the game and, obviously, to get a goal, a much-needed goal for the team and me personally.

0

Chapter 7: How do the managers view the expectations from Everton fans?

240.943 - 243.625 Theo Walcott

Yeah, I think you're going to see me a lot more on the left-hand side now. I'm pretty sure of that.

0

243.605 - 253.902 David Jones

OK. OK, well, look out for that, Theo. The facts are that you haven't played under too many managers, really, certainly at club level, so what's it like? How would you compare Sam Allardyce to Arsene Wenger?

0

256.278 - 269.027 Theo Walcott

Yeah, they're completely different levels of the way they manage. I think everyone can tell that. A word on Arsene, obviously, just announcing he's leaving Arsenal. A fantastic man, fantastic manager.

0

Chapter 8: What are the future challenges and goals for Everton?

269.227 - 284.952 Theo Walcott

I can't thank him enough for what he did for me. Such a young age to have that faith in me. I can't thank him enough and now I'm here with Sam and again he shows so much faith in me and I just want to repay that really to him personally and for this team and I want to work hard.

0

285.773 - 291.1 Theo Walcott

I felt like the team and myself we worked really hard tonight and like I said it was a really well fought battle tonight.

0

292.281 - 300.932 Roberto Martinez

Theo, it's Roberto Martinez here. I just wanted to ask you before I go any further, I think you sued that top anyway, what is it like to play with Seamus Coleman?

0

303.511 - 321.252 Theo Walcott

Do you know what? He's an absolute dream to play with. At times, as a winger, he tells you, don't mind being one-on-one. I don't mind it at all. That just shows the confidence he's got in himself defensively. But going forward as well and the way you can link off him, he's played at the highest level for so long and obviously he's had that horrific injury.

0

321.272 - 339.878 Theo Walcott

And to come back the way he has as well, mentally it's not an easy thing. I've had a long injury and it's not easy to come back from. But he's come... You wouldn't even have thought he got the injury. He's a fantastic professional. He's a great character in the dressing room. Every time you think of Everton, he's the first man you think of, I believe.

340.839 - 351.034 David Jones

Final thought, Theo. There have been a few grumblings amongst the Everton fans, despite the fact that Everton have moved away from the danger zone. You're up in eighth tonight as well. Do you think there's a lot more to come from this team?

353.731 - 375.525 Theo Walcott

Without a doubt. I feel it's been a hit and miss at times this season. I've obviously come a bit later on and they've had a bit of change of management. And it's just getting to know the balance and the way we want to play. And it's one of those things that I feel more so next season, obviously the amount of money that's been spent as well on the club and you expect to be higher up on the table.

376.507 - 389.903 Theo Walcott

But considering the start of the season, where we are at this moment in time, It's been one of those funny Premier League seasons, I feel. You look at the bottom three this year and I don't think many people would have called, particularly two of them, to go down anyway. But we'll wait and see.

391.124 - 400.414 Theo Walcott

But, yeah, we need to obviously focus on ourselves and to start to trust each other a bit more and have a bit more confidence on the ball because you could sense that confidence flowing through the team, especially in the first 60, 70 minutes.
