Hello and welcome to this special Sky Sports Football podcast, where we will be discussing and debating who's been the best player in the Premier League this season. As you can imagine, with the coronavirus stopping football and restricting the way we can work, we've had to get creative with how we record this podcast. I'm just pleased the weather's quite nice, and so people, if they can, you know, we get that hour of fresh air, at least the weather's nice and a bit of sunshine for everybody.
Yeah, absolutely. We're trying to keep spirits up here as well, and I thought we'd maybe have a look back now at the players who have stood out this season as a bit of a distraction for everyone and a bit of light-hearted chat. So, I mean, if you look back, Jamie, player of the season, if you were asked to vote this season, who would be your contenders? Who would you go for?
Oh, Peter, this is a toughie, isn't it? Because there's been... some outstanding performances from players. If you look at the Liverpool players as an example, the captain, Jordan Henderson, has been phenomenal. He's a leader, I think, not just on the field, but off it.
What makes Kevin De Bruyne a top contender for player of the season?
And you can see when players talk about him, they talk about him with such high esteem. The players at Liverpool really adore him, the job that he's done. So Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane, his influence on the team, his goals, his assists, everything about his game. Mohamed Salah as well has been phenomenal I think when you talk about defenders in the world right now and I remember saying a few years ago about Virgil van Dijk that he's the best defender in the world and I got laughed off the face of the earth everyone was like what are you talking about but you could just tell what a player he was and so composed I think he's up there even a goalkeeper you could mention a goalkeeper but The one player I think, apart from Liverpool players, that really stands out for me is Kevin De Bruyne.
I think he's been absolutely phenomenal. His stats this year have been his best ever. And I think if the rest of the City side would have been as consistent as what he is, I think they'd have probably been contending with Liverpool.

Just overall, obviously, you picked out Liverpool men's City players. Do you feel like the player of the season... has to come from a team that's challenging for the title. I think if you look back at, you know, if we say the PFA and the FWA are the two main awards, the only player who's um not come from a top team in that time would be um scott parker i think in in 10 11 he won the fwa award when west ham actually got relegated but generally but generally it is players who are who are going for the title do you think that that team i remember yeah i remember david ginola winning it many years ago because the differences are just people know i mean i remember and i've never got my head around it i mean the the premier uh the
pfa player of the year they vote too early peter that's the problem so they're voting when there's still two or three months to go before the end of the season so the business part of the season's not even completed because i think the year that ginola won it i can't remember may night won the league and i think roy keen and a couple of other players had a phenomenal entry season end up sort of driving the team on to win the league that year if i remember rightly anyway so i think that's where you have to be extremely careful with these things uh whereas these the sports writers get a
