Hello, everyone. Welcome to SLP Nerdcast. I'm very excited to welcome a group of multidisciplinary clinicians here to talk to us about interprofessional collaboration in brain injury. If anyone listens to this podcast regularly, they know that I know very little about brain injury. And I'm really excited to learn from these two expert guests today. So please join me in welcoming Tracy Callahan and Abby Jelinski. Hello. Before we get started, I wonder if you all could tell us a little bit about yourselves.
Sure. My name is Tracy. I am a speech pathologist. I am a seasoned speech pathologist with a few gray hairs that have been colored otherwise. I've been working in some form of the medical aspect of speech pathology for almost 20 years now and really enjoy working with brain injury and are really passionate about collaborating with other professionals and And Abby and I both really love this topic and we're excited to talk about it.
I'm Abby. I have been an occupational therapist for, oh my goodness, 18 years, maybe a little over. Who's counting? I'm also a certified brain injury specialist and certified neuro specialist. I'm in private practice and I work with pediatric and adolescent population primarily. And my passion is in traumatic brain injuries, acquired brain injuries. I really value working in the community, helping with community reentry back into school systems after a client has left the rehabilitation and acute phase of an injury. I especially love being in collaborative practice and getting to work with people like Tracy and other disciplines, which really just adds to patient care and my own personal knowledge.
That's wonderful. I'm so excited to speak to you both today and learn more about this world of intercollaborative, interprofessional collaborative practice and brain injury. I also just want to say thank you for using the word seasoned instead of old because I also consider myself in that category. Before we start talking about all the fun clinical stuff, I do need to read our learning objectives for the day. Learning objective number one, define and explain the benefits of interprofessional collaborative practice in post-brain injury rehabilitation and care. Learning objective number two, describe the barriers and analyze the negative impacts that fragmented care and communication have on patient satisfaction and recovery.
Learning objective number three, identify and highlight the role of the patient and family in the ICP team. And learning objective number four, describe and identify practical strategies and ways to advocate for interprofessional collaborative practice across the entire care team, inclusive of the patient and family.
