I founded Ornot in 2013. I think the best thing about Shopify is that we can practice business without technical skills. We can manage the company's background and front-end and sell online. If Shopify was a bicycle equipment, it would be a bicycle itself. That way things are handled and our business is handled in Shopify. Start a free trial at shopify.com website.
Your flight was canceled. Now what? Oh, we can tell you what. And there's a new American Airlines lounge concept coming to New York City.
And we have some very interesting info if you preferred Coke over Pepsi.
Welcome to Smart Travel from NerdWallet, a deep dive into the tips, tools, and tactics to maximize your travel dollars. I'm Tess Vigeland in for Megan Coyle.
And I'm Sally French.
And we're the travel nerds ready to help you plan your next big trip.
And hopefully that trip was not one where your flight was horribly delayed or canceled outright.
Sadly, we know it was for many travelers over the weekend. The U.S. has faced some pretty wild storms over the past week.
Tess, I fear we were too late for this episode for a lot of people as the second half of today's show gives you all the tricks for dealing with flight cancellations and minimizing the cost to both your wallet and your sanity.
At least they can listen and be prepared for the inevitable next time.
Ooh, Tess, there is always an inevitable next time. But first, our disclaimer, and that is that we will talk about a few credit card companies that are nerd wallet partners in this episode. That does not influence how we discuss them. The benefits, terms, and fees mentioned were accurate at the time of posting, but things can change. Some offers may have expired by this time. For the latest details, follow the links in the episode description. Tess, welcome back in the new seat.
What travel headlines are Sally and Tess discussing at the top of the episode?
Megan is off vacationing in Europe. Tell me, did you do any travel for the 4th?
sally i spent almost eight hours in the car driving back from pullman to my home in portland oregon i was out there on a photography trip and it's the first time i had driven my ev out there oh does it last eight hours well that was kind of the problem so out in pullman they don't have any superchargers for tesla and then you have to get yourself over to kennewick or pasco washington And I didn't realize that if you go faster in your car, which the speed limit is 70. So I was doing like 75-ish. It eats up more battery. Oh, okay. So I was a little panicked on the way. I made it. It was okay. But I spent a lot of time charging the car. And I think I'm just going to rent one for the next time I go out.
But don't rent an EV. No, I do not own a car. And I have now rented an EV twice. And I needed to learn the first time from my mistake. And I didn't. It took me two times to learn it. Never again will I rent an EV for road trip because you spend so much time charging it. I love the environment. I love the idea of an EV. But when you're traveling, I don't know.
Yeah, I do love my car, but maybe on these longer road trips where I'm not going somewhere with superchargers, I'll rent a different car. So how about you, Sally? How was your weekend?
No cars involved. I spent the weekend on Royal Caribbean's brand new mega ship called the Legend of the Seas. Now, this is the third ship in their massive icon class lineup. This is a ship that everybody's talking about. That's got the ice rink, the rock walls, all the pools, all the shows, so much to do. This ship made its summer 2026 debut in Europe. where I was over the past week.
All right. So I know you've historically been a cruise skeptic, as am I, although I've never been on one. So I suppose I shouldn't knock it till I try it. But you're not exactly the kind of person who sits still. So did legend win you over?
You do not have to sit still on the legend. There is so much going on on this ship you will never be bored i went with a friend and it was her first time cruising and she was like oh should i book a massage treatment should i go to the spa and i was like no don't even spend the money on the spa because there is so much to do on board that is included all the water slides there's not just one water slide there's many water slides there are so many shows and what i find really impressive about the ship is tess i don't know if you feel this way but we are in this era of everyone cutting corners here and there everyone is
