Hi, welcome to Something You Should Know. Like a lot of people, I start my day, pretty much every day, checking emails. Because there is a lot of it. I get a lot of emails and I kind of like to get through it and weed them out and throw away the junk and file the other stuff. And it turns out a lot of people start their day checking their email inbox to get rid of the clutter.
And so maybe the solution would be to try to stop the clutter from coming in in the first place. And there are six basic rules that can really help cut back on some of that inbox clutter, according to Caitlin Sherwood, who wrote a book called Overcome the Email Overload. First of all, when you send a message, you can sign off by saying no reply needed.
That way you won't get the reply of thanks or great. which just clutters up your inbox. Another suggestion, when making a request, finish with thanks in advance to prevent the thanks-you're-welcome loop that tends to go on. When completing a response to an email request, end with a conclusive statement like, hope this helped.
