On Episode 605 of Spittin’ Chiclets, the boys are joined by Billy G himself, Bill Guerin. Biz checks in from Aspen, Whit talks about building a backyard rink, and the crew wastes no time jumping into the jaw-dropping blockbuster that sent Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild. The boys break down the return, why Billy G went all-in, and Hughes’ electric start in Minny — including a big night against Boston and an ovation he didn’t see coming. Elliotte’s reporting fuels the conversation with insight on who else was in the mix, why teams wanted to line up his next contract, and why the Wild may not be done yet. Vancouver’s response, Jersey’s injury problems, and what’s next for the Devils are all on the table. Plus, goalie chaos across the league, Brandon Bussi’s unreal run, Jacob Fowler’s debut, Bedard injury talk, Milan Olympic concerns, and rumblings out of Buffalo. Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
Hey, Spittin' Chicklets listeners, you can find every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Me and Ryan have been officially welcomed to the jungle that is Barstool Sports.
I brought it towards the Coyotes, and I asked them if it was okay if I joined the Spit and Chicklets podcast full-time. Ryan Whitney's got a pink Whitney out there now.
This is a standbagger. Get that on camera. Keith Yandel, the Sonk Man. Keith is a full-time member. Marley just got an assist from Chris Bates. Whoa, we're buzzing right now. Sonk. Holy shit, boys. I don't know if we've ever had more to talk about in one episode that wasn't in the middle of the Stanley Cup playoffs than we do today. Exciting times.
Keith, bring that bottle back into the screen because we're all here. Oh, which one? Because of Pink Whitney. That big old bottle of Pink Whitney. Take your shot with Pink Whitney. Shout out to Amsterdam Vodka. Shout out Pink Whitney. The new bottles look phenomenal. I believe that's an old one, but the new, what am I trying to say? Design.
It's just electric. Mmm.
It's excellent, just as the pink drink itself. So go get involved. Biz, I think it was flying around Aspen. I know you were in Aspen where the Pink Whitney flows like, what is it? Like the salmon. Yeah, like wine. Okay, I'll go with that. And the salmon and Capistrano. Thank you. Thank you. It's all about Pink Whitney. It's all about spitting chiclets. And we are now live. on a wild Monday.
I don't even really, I don't remember this much going down. I mean, we had Quinn Hughes. I got a new goalie and it's like the seventh story on the sheet based on the fact that the Sabres just fired their GM.
No, we actually took that off the outline. It really doesn't matter how much action's been going down. This is the latest one that just broke, what, probably 15, 20 minutes before we hopped on. But my goodness, hockey is on a heater. And the Minnesota Wild have made what is, I think, the biggest trade, easily the biggest trade in their franchise history.
And Billy Big Ball Guerin pulled the trigger on it. So unreal, boys. Unreal weekend for hockey.

Chapter 2: What are the implications of Quinn Hughes' trade to the Minnesota Wild?
And now you can kind of go see online as to where it is now. Like Peter Forsberg was playing for the Avs in that one. Marc-Andre Fleury was there. Lundqvist, the Missing Curfew guys. Duncan Keith was there. Schmaltzy was there. So just a ton of great people coming together for a great cause. And I ended up popping in just for just over 24 hours for the game itself.
And just to see like the community and the people come out and be so thankful that not only are they getting to watch like Hall of Famers skate on the sheet in the small community that's been provided by, you know, one of their community members. But yeah, just to see the look on the kids' faces that have been supplied this and how happy they were.
So it was an unreal 24 hours and shout out to Colorado Extreme Sports. Make sure you follow them on their channels and take a look as to what they're doing for their small community of El Jebel out about 30, 45 minutes just outside of Aspen. So that's what I had going on. Did you skate, Mizzy? I didn't skate this year.
I haven't been training or working out nearly hard enough, so I need to get back.
There was a rumor I saw online that because of the heavy hitters they're now bringing into this game, people said you weren't allowed.
Buddy, people kept asking me, why aren't you playing? I go, look at the players on the ice right now. I'd be holding the door open. Even Mike Commodore, he played one shift and did the wave, got out of the wave, and then he was done and back to slamming beers. Tyson Berry was there. Uh, yeah, just like the list goes on. So a great get together.
And I hope at one point, like our whole pod can go, like, if you guys would be up for it, uh, they all, they fly in, take care of you. And then they also do kind of like, um, uh, you know how they used to do, uh, uh, fantasy camp. Wayne Gretzky used to do a fantasy camp and other guys have done them. So they do that for one day where they sell corporate sponsorship.
And that also goes towards the charity as well. So, uh, Unreal weekend for me. And what about you boys? What about you, Janz?
I had my member member at Grove, which was, I don't think there's a better member member in the world. Just what they had going on. I mean, Nobu the first night, Carbone the second night, you know.

Chapter 3: What insights does Brandon Bussi share about his journey and current success?
We went back after and hung out with them for like 30 minutes. We were going to the casino after, and he said, yeah, I sold out seven in a row. He was so fired up and... He was so grateful. That's what I love about him. There was a time when he got fired from Barstool. He was in a tough spot. Oh, yeah. And now it's like the year of Francis. He's just doing phenomenal.
And he said he thinks because of that ability to sell out seven in a row at the Laugh Center or whatever it's called, he's going to do the Wilbur next year. And that should translate to selling out two shows at the Wilbur.
Wow.
Francis is off to the moon. Great show. It was a blast.
He's on a heater.
He's on a heater right now.
Give us a few topics that he was talking about.
He talked about his first fight and the guy put a mouth guard in. He's like, oh, fuck. Broke his entire face. He talked about his divorce. He talked about his divorce and the honeymoon. They went to Africa on a safari. Yeah. It was all over the place. It was just so funny. His time at Harvard, although he never mentioned Harvard. He's like, I went to school here in Boston.
I was waiting for him to be like, Harvard. But I was really happy for him. I was in the back. I was dying laughing.

Chapter 4: How does the crew react to the recent trades and player performances?
I haven't even talked to him or anything, but I saw that that some guy like buried some old guy and then and then, you know, dropped a very bad slur to to a black guy after who was trying to help the old guy. And they were holding him and holding him until the cops come. But then the guy he knocked down didn't want to press charges. So then he's like, how long can we hold this guy?
And he escaped and ran away. So I think Francis posted a picture of the guy and then was like, does anyone know this piece of shit? But yeah, kind of a bizarre story.
And then he went back to the office and ate a birthday cake at his desk.
Wedding cake. A wedding cake. A wedding cake. Yeah, this guy. So, I mean, kind of a bizarre, like... tweet kind of a bizarre shirt to be as i started reading the tweet i was waiting for the punch line and then i'm like oh this is like real life stuff this isn't like comedian francis
Well, the fans were given the punchlines because I didn't know if it was serious or not because people kept saying, is that this person or this? So people were like making it into a joke where I just, I didn't know if it was real or not. And Francis is a pretty funny guy online. So you'd never really know if he's like pulling your leg. So what a run. But so did you do that this weekend?
Was that this weekend or last?
No, that was two weekends ago.
Oh, two weekends ago.
That was two weekends ago. This weekend we opened up. I got a rink going in the backyard. It's up? It's up. First skate.

Chapter 5: What humorous comment did Dean make about the trade?
You had to laugh at Dean saying, I wish he made that trade when I was the coach.
That was great. I texted him. It was hysterical.
oh that is comedy so now you said you thought of this on monday who is the first person you bounce it off of like did you did you consult anyone are you like am i crazy for offering this his therapist yeah yeah no uh like one of my agms matt seld called me out matt sells called me i was on my way to watch a game at uh msg and he's like you know i'm just reading all this stuff about quinn hughes maybe it's worth giving vancouver a call and i'm like yeah you know what i'll
Chapter 6: What was the thought process behind trading for Quinn Hughes?
I'll give him a call. So I talked to Patrick. He told me Jim was handling it. So the next, you know, the next day I called Jim and, um, you know, I, I just, I made him that offer right away. Uh, you didn't bounce it off. You didn't consult any, any of your staff or you just, no, no, no.
Like we, we talked about it, but it's obvious who, listen, they, they wanted, they needed a center, a left shot defenseman, a prospect and a first round pick.
that we have that pretty easy well we have that so i mean that's just really the way it worked and um yeah i was walking around uh laguardia waiting for my flight home and jim and i were on the phone i i just offered that to him and you know he he jim's great to work with like he he really just kind of he works through deals with you but there's no there's no bullshit involved like
uh, it's straight to the point, which I, which I love. And, and, um, you know, but he had to take, he had to take time cause there are apparently there are other teams interested as well. So, you know, he's got to do what's best for, for his team. So, um, you know, I, I had to, uh, you know, kind of sit and wait, but check in with them every once in a while.
It was, it was, it's always a good process with those guys. Billy, this one might be extra long, but please bear with me. Okay. Okay. I think that the one maybe like hesitant downside would be you only, you only technically have them right now for the year and a half.
You might not give a fuck about that, but as a GM, when you make that call, are you able to get information on if you do make that move and he okays it, would he be open to staying longer than that? Like, are you even allowed to ask that? Or at that time you're like, I don't give a fuck. I just want to get this guy here. I want to show him what we're about.
And I'm sure that we can convince him that he would want to stay here long-term. Yeah. It's more of the second, like just, we, we know what we're doing. We, we know what the contract is. We're confident in our team, our market, our everything that Minnesota wild does. We're very confident in that and that, that Quinn will like it.
Um, so we'll, we'll just, we'll worry about that down the road right now. The most important thing was just getting him to Minnesota, get them in a wild Jersey and, and playing some hockey that we'll worry about the business later. And, uh,

Chapter 7: How did Quinn Hughes' performance impact the Minnesota Wild?
Yeah, that's just kind of where we are. Did you fly to Jersey to go get him? Did you fly personally? Yeah. What a class act. Yeah.
Sick.
Oh, actually.
Me and Kels went. Me and Chris Kelleher went.
Kels is like, I know this unreal pub. We could stop there quick. And then, boom, we're back on the bird. They had great Reuben egg rolls. What did when when Quint mentioned in the press conference after the game, his respect for you kind of going back to Four Nations last year where he was injured and like what you did for him. Like, was there anything particular?
Like, I know he was obviously bummed he couldn't be a part of it. But what had you been doing throughout that process? Like, was it almost trying to get him in when there were rumors he'd be showing up for that final game?
No, I, you know what, I, I, uh, nothing out of the ordinary, I guess, you know, like we, we talked, uh, a lot during that tournament, um, because we didn't know where his health was going to be, especially leading up. And there are difficult, you know, conversations and he had really tough choices to make, I think.
you know, we kind of developed the, you know, got to know each other a little, developed a bit of a relationship there. Um, and he's a great kid and, and really passionate. And like I said, during the four nations, when, when he wasn't able to play really, it really bothered him. And, um,
So I think maybe just going through, uh, something like that with, with somebody kind of, you know, can, can galvanize a relationship or whatever, but, um, you know, just tried to support him, you know, because I knew he was, he was making really tough decisions. What happened with his gear? How does gear get lost? Was Kels on that? Yeah, it never got lost.

Chapter 8: What are the implications of Conor Bedard's injury for the Blackhawks?
He sold it. Took it back to Belmont and sold it. He... Yeah, apparently it was in Jack's car, and they didn't know, I guess. But we never even saw, like, his... I never even saw his suitcases get put on the plane. So I just assume... You had, you know, the gear is there, but you need it.
Um, you do.
We landed and found that out. It was panic mode.
Jack was in the bag.
Yeah. Yeah.
Jack, could I come too? How much do you think he's going to help Faber? Obviously, the one game last night, I thought they were both amazing. They fed off each other really well. I think it shows a lot about Faber, too, just being smart as a young player. Quinn's moving around the entire game. You don't know where he is, but he was always in the right spot.
Was that something when you made that trade? It was like, we're going to have them play together, too? Yeah.
Obviously, I always let Heinze make the last decision on lineups and who's playing with who, but you know, that was definitely a thought that we could, you know, potentially have these two guys playing for a long time together. And just the way that their game set up, you know, one's extremely offensive-minded, you know, and Favs is... Favs has an offensive element to his game, but
Um, primarily like, uh, you know, defensive minded guy. Um, and I, I think that the chemistry will, will be there. I think it's, uh, you know, their skills and their, their mentalities kind of match up, uh, perfectly for a good pair. And also, Billy G, I was talking about it before. I refer to it as the ace of spades.
