Welcome to Stories from the Village of Nothing Much. Like easy listening. But for fiction. I'm Kathryn Nikolai. I write and read all the stories you'll hear on The Village of Nothing Much. Audio Engineering and Sound Design is by Bob Wittersheim.
We've just launched our new Village of Nothing Much app. It's a great place to listen to the show, but also to do yoga and meditation with me, to take courses in journaling and mindful art, and build community and friendships with others who resonate with this world we're creating together. A sort of grown-up Mr. Rogers neighborhood. There's a link in our show notes. And speaking of It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, my dears. My mom likes to say It's another gorgeous day. Can you stand it? And that's how I am feeling this deep into summer in the village of nothing much. The gardens behind each house are overflowing with tomatoes and snap peas and sprawling squashes on their vines. The sun doesn't set till long after dinner, and once it does every field is filled with fireflies.
Or not worn out with the heat and sun yet. But we are just starting to look forward. To crisp autumn days and turning leaves.
How does Kathryn introduce the monthly walking tour and its purpose?
It's a great time to set out on a little adventure with me. for one of our monthly walking tours. If you are new to the village, well First of all, welcome. We're so glad you found us. I've built a place that we can relax together, a little world we can tuck into and be reminded of the good things that exist around us. I've been telling stories about this village for eight years now on my bedtime story podcast, Nothing Much Happens. And over here we revisit them for daytime anxiety reduction and joy increasing reasons. And on the first Monday of each month, I take you around the village a bit. We tour some local spots. I tell you a little of the local news and we just get to have a friend date. If you want to listen while you're out on your own walk, that's a great way to use this, but
So is listening while you're on your commute or folding your laundry or winding down from work. Before we get our things together and head out the door. Let's take a deep breath in through your nose.
And sigh from your mouth. One more time. Philip. And sigh out. Good.

My
water bottle, my sunscreen. Lip balm. Oh, I got a roll of wintergreen lifesavers. Yes. Life is good. Oh hey, I was just checking my bag for our walking tour. You want a lifesaver? You got it. Yeah, it's been hot this week, hasn't it? I just wanted to make sure I had everything we need, but I think I'm ready. You've got your own water bottle? Great. Yes, we are headed over to the bike shop in a minute, but first we have been assigned a little errand to run. Since last month when Chef had us pick up those things from the farmers market for them, well word has gotten around. And now that folks sort of know when we're here They're not being shy about asking us to do a few things for them as we move around town.
No, I don't mind either. I feel kind of special, actually, to get asked. So come down the block with me to the bookshop. That's going to be our actual first stop today. We have such a great book shop here in Nothing Much. And it really is more than a place to browse and buy. They also have book clubs almost every evening, depending on your interests. They have a good sized children's section and they host story time every weekend. There's a really nice reading nook in the front window, and if we are lucky. There will be a dog in there.
