Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
0141 951 1025. It's time to talk football. It's Clyde One Super Scoreboard.
Good evening and welcome to Clyde One Super Scoreboard as we move towards another incredible weekend across Scottish football. Derek McInnes says confident hearts can handle the pressure as they get closer to an historic title win. Danny Rowe linked with Wolfsburg's managerial role in some of the newspapers this morning.
And drama at the bottom as Marvin Bartley resigns with three games to go and Scott Arfield placed in temporary charge of Livingston. I'm Gordon Duncan and joining me tonight you have Brian Graham and Gordon DL.
You can certainly say this season has been like a marathon, Gordon, but we're nearly at the finish line. Over a week to go, three games to go. this weekend, Wednesday, and then next weekend, will eventually tell us who's going to be the champions, who's in the playoffs, and someday, obviously, like Big Marv, getting relegated, no longer in the job, and I look forward to seeing him on Tuesday.
you can always rely on you Dazzler welcome everybody back that gets a sack he's not been sacked he resigned tell a lie okay my apologies Marv if you're listening resigned there's no difference there in your world wait till Tuesday I've got the script already no to be fair like obviously the news has come out about Big Marvin resigning it's quite a story that isn't it yeah and that's one that's very it surprised me because I think he's in there and did an okay job he was listen
Livingston were already down before Marv took over it was simple as that they'd won one game in so long and the fact that he's been asked to reapply for the job I think that's a bit harsh on the boy so credit to him he stuck by his guns and felt it was a bit disrespectful and he's resigned so fair play to him I do agree I know I have a laugh and a joke but I thought that he certainly what he achieved in the sense of we went in
He looked more organised. I thought in a lot of the games, Livov were very, very unlucky. Hard to beat as well. Got that good victory against St Mirren. I thought a crack at the championship was a certainty for him. Modern day football now, you never know what's around the corner. Clubs just go in different ways, strange things come up, and I totally agree with him.
He should never, ever need to apply for that job for next year.
01419511025, that is the number that you need. Get in touch, let us know what you're thinking. Thursday night, which means we're nearly there again. It's been a quick old week, I suppose the Monday night fixture helped that. So all your latest thoughts on the title race. It's been quite a few days in the aftermath of Tinecastle with loads of Rangers fans feeling...

Chapter 2: What news links Danny Rohl to Wolfsburg?
or would you prefer him to stick around for next season do let us know on that right now please 01419511025 Derek McInnes picked up another one of the manager of the year awards today spoke about his team being able to handle the pressure so I wonder how you feel about that side of things and that story at the bottom Interesting one that.
Let's hear from you Livy fans or anyone else that's got an interest in it. Sorry, Marvin Bartley resigning from Livy with three games to go. Scott Arfield placed in temporary charge. Big Marv taking to social media to issue somewhat of a statement and say that he was... told that he would have to reapply for the role.
That went against what he'd been told previously, and he and his assistant have decided to walk away. So 01419511025, how good's this weekend going to be?
Oh, honestly, brilliant. And I'm looking forward to Fir Park on Saturday night, 8 o'clock kick-off, Gordon. For me, right, and I know probably a lot of people might disagree with this, especially if you're a Celtic fan, I think if Hearts can go to Fir Park,
and get a victory I think they go in their certainty to go and win the league I think they'll win it against Falkirk no disrespect to this man sitting next to me but I really do the fact that it's at Tyne Castle they know that you know going out there good performance and I know Falkirk went there and put them out in the cup and penalties and all that sort of stuff but I just feel that
They would have the bit between their teeth. But let's not be kidded here. I think Motherwell got to play a big part because both Hearts and Celtic have still to go and win there. And that is a difficult job.
If you look at games over the weekend, games at the top obviously mean so much, but the game in the middle between Falkirk and Hibs as well, Falkirk won that.
leapfrog them with a chance of potentially getting Europe then you look at the bottom St Mirren home to Kilmarnock that last playoff spot there's so much to play all over the division and it's super exciting again and that's why I've been waiting for these post split fixtures everybody's been buzzing off them and now we're getting the benefits
And obviously the headlines are going to the top, but loads for your Falkirk team to play for.

Chapter 3: What impact does Marvin Bartley's resignation have on Livingston?
I'm not saying you should sack Danny Rule. It makes perfect sense what John's saying. To some people, where you go, you can't keep sacking managers, give them a bit more time, that's fine. My query was...
Would Rangers fans accept Not winning the next The next two titles I don't think they would But John I don't know Talking about England And structure Yeah it's another season Without Silverware And they had a great opportunity Because You've got to admit
In the transfer window, which was so important and the three teams were right in it, Rangers probably had the best transfer window. It looked like they came in strongest, definitely. Yeah, 100%.
So is this the unfortunate thing for a manager or a head coach then? Because the bit that always reflects on a manager or a head coach is the notion that you're not getting as much out of that group of players as someone else could. Because everybody's saying it, that Romans is really good and Chukwani's good and Nadiri looks like he could come good.
why is that not kicked Rangers on the way that people thought it would in January because everybody kept saying in January whoever wins the window will win the league and Rangers probably had the best window the players hearts brought in Mark Leonard aside don't really contribute as much in their starting 11 do they Celtics don't even make the team bus half the time
Yeah, I just think that hearts, when you look at them, for some reason, Derek's built a strength that they're all together, right? You've seen that on Monday. See it at half-time. You're thinking, if Rangers had went in there 2-0 up, I don't think the game's dead, right? They're getting 1-0 up. Derek tweaks one, two wee things. And all of a sudden, when they go 1-1, only one winner.
The desire was there.
Thank you, John. 01419511025. Plenty more when we return.
0141 951 1025 This is Scottish football's lead leader Clyde One Super Scoreboard Brian Graham and Gordon DL are here They're about to be joined by James Who's on the line How are you James?

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Hearts' title race against Motherwell?
But, I think he had a lot of goodwill in the tank as far as they're concerned, but it just depends how damaging they see these. Depends how the crowd turn.
If the crowd turn, you've seen it with Russell Martin, if they go the way, it's not by the way, it's not where they are right now. No, it's nowhere near it. If it gets to that, then there's no chance he stays.
What do you think of that, James? Because it's not going to get to that. They're incomparable, but... What we're all admitting then, even the Danny Rule supporters out there are admitting that there's a question mark, yeah? Is that fine? There's a question mark hanging over. I think everyone's comfortable with that, whatever side that you're on.
Can you go into a new season with the question mark?
I think, to be honest with you, if he gets beat with Celtic next week, I think he's got to go.
That's the kind of I think to be honest with you That's going to be a hard pill to swallow And it's going to be A hard decision to give him 16 to 20 million quid That's basically The crux of it I don't know what turns into Three losses in a row Okay James So if he beats Celtic You're confident he'll give him 16, 17 million quid Go on James, change your mind I don't mind That's what I'm saying.
You can't just turn around. I know what you're saying because of the disappointment, the anger and the hurt and everything. You can't just look at this manager's career for next year and 16, 17 million and judge it on what's going to happen at the weekend.
No, listen, that's very fickle.
Let me say something. Alex Ferguson was one game away to get this action.

Brian Graham's here alongside Gordon DL It's 01419511025 We are very much wrapped up in the title race And rightly so, make no apologies for it It is brilliant but a very interesting story developing today Down at the bottom So Livingston's relegation already confirmed
And then surprise news came out that head coach Marvin Bartley, who obviously we know well, along with assistant Neil Hastings, had resigned with immediate effect. They had a press conference scheduled for today. It was cancelled at short notice. And Scott Arfield, experienced midfielder who needs no introduction, has been placed in temporary charge for the last three games.
The club's statement read, we thank Marvin and Neil for their efforts during a challenging period and so on. We wish them well. Didn't really say much there.
much else it was a bit of a confusing situation for a lot of people or a surprising one should I say so Marvin Bartley later took to social media with a bit of a longer statement I'll try and paraphrase some of it talking about the regrets saying that they've got no option a huge honour wants to thank everyone at the club um
But the crucial bit is that he feels the position that had previously been outlined changed significantly. It goes all the way back to January saying he was actually offered the job prior to that. I agreed to do so based on assurances around stability and the opportunity to lead the club into next season should relegation happen.
For that reason, it came as a major surprise to later be informed Neil and I would need to reapply for our positions as part of a new process. We don't feel that situation we agreed on and we're now... The one we agreed on And the one now being presented Are the same thing So they've stepped away Ultimately Let's bring in Ewan Who is a Livy fan What do you make of all this Ewan?
I think what you got Gordon And you can't swear Remember either I'll be honest It's just Top of the iceberg For this season really Two wins out of 35 games 26 players signed With very few of them Making an impact And Arguably our greatest ever manager in David Martindale going 26 or 27 games without a win and somehow finding a promotion to sporting director. Marvin's obviously come in.
I would say there's been an upturn in performances, maybe not quite reflected in the results, but four defeats and he's 11 games in charge. It's not too bad for a team sitting bottom of the league. and he's then been given assurances that he'll get an opportunity next season, and now he's not. I think it's just, as I say, kind of sums up our season pretty much.

Chapter 6: How do recent performances affect Rangers' title chances?
But I don't even think that would probably be the tip of it, to be honest with you. As I say, it's very difficult to move past the fact that the previous manager, who I think everyone in Scottish football knows, has a big say at the football club. And he's the sporting director and he's going to be in charge of who gets the job next.
I think it's such a... As I say, it's a very difficult place to be in as a Livingston fan because you don't feel like you're ever really getting any change at this moment in time.
I think if we look at it from the outside, I don't think Marvin or anyone ever came out and said, right from day one, I've been told I can keep this job for next season. But clearly, you would only take it under that kind of... Maybe not cast iron promise, but certainly that idea, that suggestion. Now, football's football.
Chapter 7: What are the fans' perspectives on the current state of Scottish football?
So say Levy had lost every game from Maverickman to the end of the season, battered every week. He might not even want to do it next season. That's then not going to happen. That situation probably changes. But as Ewan and others have pointed out, the results have been...
fine they've been quite good at times you look at even performances against some of the bigger teams and I'm thinking when Rangers went to Livy and when Hearts went there is it only is it two defeats in the last nine something along is it something along those lines so that's enough to get I understand your point Gordon if they lost every game then excuse me then question when they'd answer so but the fact of the matter is he's thought he was getting the gig next season in the championship because as I said earlier
They were already down, but there's been a turn up in performances, harder to beat, scoring more goals, 2-0 up against Rangers. I know Marv will be disappointed with the Rangers coming back 2-2, but that can happen to anybody. They have been better, and the big man stood back to his cell when he was saying reapply for the job, and he's like, no.
The one thing, Brian, we all know is facts, right? He's not been sat in an office and said, do you know what, Marv? Keep us up, you get the job. But if you go down, then we might look elsewhere. Because Livy was down.
Chapter 8: What are the key factors influencing Scotland's World Cup squad selection?
They were gone. They were well gone, right? But he went in there and brought a bit of pride back to them. Everybody was talking about August the 9th since the last one, a league game. Eventually went to St Mirren, got that victory. As you say, hard to beat. Competed well against Rangers as well. So I think the big man's been very hard done by. I really do.
I think he deserved another crack at this next year, but unfortunately it's not going to be.
There's a principled element to this, Ewan, where if Marvin feels... He was told he could get the job next season. He's now been told to reapply. There's a principle thing there where he's saying, no, I don't think that's right.
But ultimately, do you think there's another layer listening to what you're saying that even if he was willing to reapply in the most general sense, and even if he was to then get it, do you think you're then, if you're Marvin Bartley, you're almost a bit worried about what that means or why you've had to do that and what that looks like going forward and where the control actually lies?
Yeah.
Yeah, I think, as I say, it's very difficult to move past the fact that David Martindale is sporting director and he's still going to be very much in charge of recruitment. He had a big article in one of the papers recently talking through it and it obviously still shows that he has a great say in what happens at the football club for a bit of balance.
you know as much as Marvin's had a bit of an upturn in results he's also still been involved in the coaching staff from the get-go this season in a team that's won two out of 35 games so for a bit of balance you know you could argue for and against them getting the job next season I feel but if you're looking at it in isolation for the 11 games that he's had you know you talked about results against Rangers results against Arch went away to Easter Road drew with Aberdeen so there's
some really good results and performances in isolation so I think I think he probably merited a crack at next year but if he's been given that assurance and then that's been taken away I can absolutely see why he's walked away from it Just quickly what do you make of like it's three games you're going down anyway but Scott Arfield's in charge clearly a very experienced pro you've got a few of them in the dressing room though Ryan McGowan Danny Wilson in fact it's quite a an ageing group in some respects what do you make of what happens in the next few weeks then?
I actually find it surprising that it's been given to our field, if I'm totally honest with you, because Andrew Shinney's on the coaching staff, and I know Andrew Shinney's recently done his coaching badges before moving on to the staff. Grant Murray was brought in as well, who's got managerial experience.
