Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
0141 951 1025 It's time to talk football It's Clyde One Super Scoreboard
Hello and welcome to Super Scoreboard Sunday. Celtic complete a double with a Scottish Cup win over Dunfermline. But what does that mean for Martin O'Neill's future? Lauren Shankland is on the verge of a shock move to Rangers. St Mirren and Partick Thistle gear up for tomorrow's playoff final. And it was a dramatic final day in the SWPL. I'm Andrew McLean.
Joining me in the studio are David Friel and Marvin Bartley. I think we were coming into today thinking that it would be all-cup final chat. Pretty much all-cup final chat. And then the news broke last night.
looks like lauren shank wants to go to rangers yeah things are never straightforward are they jay's not put my mic on again seems to happen all the time yeah things are never straightforward are they in scottish football things are never straightforward in the studio either when i'm in because my mic doesn't work but uh as you said they i thought we were all going to come in and speak about martin o'neill and a fantastic job he's done in you know getting a double for celtic when it looked like the league was miles away from them could have been a treble if you know nancy hadn't been put in for that cup final as well and a lot of celtic fans have been speaking about that
But as you said, Lauren Shanklin going across from Hearts to Rangers, be a massive signing for Rangers, but a massive, massive loss for Hearts. And I've heard from a couple of reliable sources earlier on this week that there is no fee attached to it either, which is, you know, even worse, an even bigger blow for Hearts to take. So yeah, listen, this can be a difficult summer for them.
But if Rangers get that business done nice and early, what a fantastic start to the window for them it is.
Yeah, Andrew, congratulations to Celtic for winning the double. I think it's a very unlikely double at one stage as well. In terms of Lauren Shankland, I think it's just fitting in the most dramatic of Scottish football seasons. We then get one final twist, one final subplot, and it is Lauren Shankland
going to Rangers incredible story I need to mention my colleague Robert Greve that's got his son who kind of dropped a bombshell last night it's obviously developed again today over what's happened but I fully expect Lauren Shanklin to be a Rangers player within the next 24 hours yeah it's an incredible development
01419511025 there are of course two sides to that story so I want to hear from you Rangers fans what do you make of it because it came out the blue last night as David Friel said I'm not sure anyone was expecting that type of news to be coming out so what do you make of it are you delighted with it are you happy especially with the fact there doesn't look to be a fee attached to it either what does that do for your summer business kicking it off

Chapter 2: What does Celtic's Scottish Cup win mean for Martin O'Neill's future?
yesterday on what could be happening so do you want to see him continue do you think it should be time for someone else to come in maybe you are doing a sort of body language expert thing that people do with some of the players trying to see whether it would maybe be their last game as well so whether you want to talk about the game whether you want to look big picture I want to hear from you Dunfermline fans as well I know you'll be disappointed at the result but what did you take away from that cup final we'll look ahead to St Mirren against Partick Thistle in the playoff final tomorrow and lots else to be getting our teeth into so 0141951
1025 on the phones whatever is on your mind we are here until seven o'clock as well and we'll try not have Marvin Bartley too distracted with the Premier League final day because it is Scottish football that we're here to talk about but will be an interesting day down south but we can get to that
at some point but certainly we have enough stories to keep us occupied um we touched on the lauren shanklin story looking back at yesterday's cup final most people expected that it was going to be a celtic victory turned out to be that way at the start of the second after ferland put up a good fight but celtic overall good value for their win and clinching a double yeah they were and there was an obviously an early scare for celtic i think as it scales he got back to clear off the line um but listen you know lennon set up his team really really well
ultimately you know the golfing class between the two teams showed in the end but yeah listen Celtic definitely deserved it I'm glad that you know Dunfermline did get a goal for their supporters because they're really really well backed in a really big club that are in the championship they've had a good season under Neil Lennon but in terms of Martin O'Neill the job he's gone in and done there you know to get those players back and playing again and the other players constantly speak about it after they won the league after they won the cup yesterday that people had written them off and I think that's what's motivated them
the serial winners within that squad so to do the double when people are speaking about it being the worst Celtic team for a long long time For their fans, I'm sure that's probably the sweetest title or sweetest double they've had for a long, long time.

Chapter 3: What impact will Lawrence Shankland's move to Rangers have?
And it's thoroughly deserved in the end.
And naturally, with it bringing the conclusion of Celtic season, there are going to be a million questions over the managerial hunt, over some of the players. And I'm sure we heard it on the phones after the show last night. I'm sure it's going to be the same again today.
Yeah, I think it will be. And to be honest with you, Andrew, I think it's now at the stage where it's up to Martin O'Neill now if he wants to stay. I think if he feels he's got the energy for it,
I think there seems to be a groundswell probably over the last 10 days building that I think a lot of fans would be pretty happy for him to stay and a lot of people at the club staff behind the scenes would like him to stay and I think it all comes down to what he wants obviously Desmond will decide and I would imagine guys like Robbie Keane are still very much in the conversation but I think to win a double and to do it in that scenario in the way Celtic have done over the last week
I think it puts Martin on pole position to get the job and it all depends if he feels he can go again at the age of 74.
Dunfermline as well, Neil Lennon has shown over the years that he can win trophies as a manager. Certainly no stranger to that, it was going to be a tough ask for them yesterday but can he be proud of the performance that they put in against Celtic?
Yeah, it was always going to be a huge ask and I think Neil spoke about it in his pre-match stuff that he felt disrespected because the team had been written off. But yeah, listen, they can be delighted with their season. And getting to the Scottish Cup final was a massive achievement for them. You know, knocking out Hibs, they knocked out Aberdeen as well.
You know, beating Falkirk in the semifinals, their arch rivals. So it's been a fantastic run for them. And their players will take a lot from it as well because it's an extremely young squad that he's put together.
a couple of boys I know a little bit older but they're a really really good side and Neil has done extremely well as I said you know to get them into the position they are in he'll want to kick on next season he never likes losing games of football so he won't want to pat on the back for it but as I said the experience and what he's you know brought to that football club this season has been fantastic.

Chapter 4: How does the managerial situation at Celtic affect the team's future?
They were in the starting line-up. Quite a few of the players that we brought in haven't hit the ground running yet. It is a bit of unfortunate timing that we're talking about Braga going.
the Shankland situation has come out as you see Cammy Devlin's out of contract as well and he's just had a fantastic season so unfortunately it looks like it could be a bit of a turnaround this year and who knows next year might not be anywhere as good as this year but
We kind of have to Trust the process Of what's happening With Jamestown Analytics This year was Far more than any Hearts fan Could have hoped for So The thing for me is Can we enjoy This type of season For the next Five to ten years The way Tony Bloom is talking So We'll see for next year I'm not sure At this point in time To be honest What's Gordon Dale's Favourite phrase If you're going to lose a goal Lose it early If you're going to lose Your captain Talisman Leader Top goal scorer Whatever
It's better to do it on the 24th of May than to do it on the final day of the transfer window.
Yeah, you've got three months here trying to replace him. I also think we need to bring a bit of light into the hearts world. The women's team did win the SWPL today. Congratulations to them.
Because the Raiders might go as well. Well, thank you to Callum. What about Craig, who's a Rangers fan and Airdrie? Craig, are you happy with the fact that it looks as if Lauren Shankland is on his way to Ibrox?
All right, Andrew, how are you doing, guys? All right? I'm absolutely fantastic.
and I've seen the news this morning and it's absolutely over the moon like to get him on a two year deal with an option that are further near I am that's a statement from the board isn't it it's like if you're going to guarantee 20 goals a season with Lawrence you know what you're getting with so obviously hopefully get this deal done quite quickly before he obviously goes to the World Cup and obviously has a good comes back has a good pre-season obviously just get things obviously on the go
Did it come as a bit of a shock to you when you saw it, Craig?

Chapter 5: What do the speakers think about Rangers' need for a center-half?
They need a centre-half. I would say Suter's finished.
I would say... I don't think Rangers will think that since they gave him a new one-year deal.
Yeah, I don't understand why. I mean, he's spent more time on the medical bench than he has on the park, and I just think if you get an offer for him, any kind of offer, just let him go.
Chapter 6: How does Shankland fit into Rangers' strategy?
I think they need...
another set at half do they need to strengthen because Tavernier's left you've got to think they might have to but they need I think with Shankland in I think Shankland not as a number 10 but as a kind of goal scorer scope creator I think is the best way for him to be he'll create charges he'll create space I think he could be a cracking guy to play beside Majowski because I think they'll kind of
play off each other and I think that could be quite a rewarding team to be honest.
Would you like to see Rangers sign more Scottish players, more players from the Scottish Premiership? It's something that Andrew Kavanagh has talked about that he said in the last few days that he feels there's going to be more of a Scottish bias to their recruitment.
That if two players show up very similarly in terms of where they rank in their recruitment, they'll opt for the Scottish player over the player from overseas. Do you like the idea of that?
There's talk about the centre-back from Dundee coming. We bought Lyle Cameron, who was supposed to be brilliant. He's went away on loan and he's done well.

Chapter 7: What are the implications of Rangers focusing on Scottish players?
Finlay Curtis, who I think is a superb young talent, and we farmed him out. Whenever he played for Rangers, he did well. He scored goals. He created goals, but then he got farmed out to...
to Kamara where he's done very well and I'm hoping that he comes back and does that for Rangers but yeah I think a Scottish the problem we get is for the last couple of years we've played well in Europe because players that we've brought in like Gassama and all the other players need time on the ball but they don't get that in Scottish football it's all rush rush rush they don't get time to show their skills as they did when we were in the good European lands and I think that's the problem
from your time managing in the scottish premiership having a scottish bias a scottish core to your team do you think there are bonuses to that pros yeah i think it's you know players who understand the league that's the most important thing um like you said that the two players that me and hasty brought into limson you know barry mccarran joel newblade two boys that have played in the league and they understood what it was about because as david said it's
You get a lot less time on the ball here than you do in other leagues, even down in England. So you need players that definitely understand that. I think when you speak about teams like Rangers, it's about understanding that pressure as well. So Luke Graham, although he's a Dundee at this moment in time, he understands the magnitude of playing for a football club the size of Rangers.
Chapter 8: What are the key factors for Celtic's upcoming transfer window?
The scrutiny you're going to be under. how perfect you have to be at doing absolutely everything in every single game. You can't lose games of football, etc. So, yeah, there are players that are ready to go into it. When your boys come from abroad, even me coming from England, I didn't realise the size of the Celtic Rangers.
Honestly, I was flying down the road and I had no idea until I actually came up here how big these football clubs are. So, I sympathise with players coming from Europe and not really understanding it and not really getting it at first. So, yeah, I think there's definitely... So they need to be doing that. I think it's shown people talk about mentality, talk about mentality at Celtic.
You're talking about James Froy, talking about Callum McGregor, Kieran Tierney now adding to that. So I think definitely having Scottish players or British based players who understand it makes things a lot easier when you go into the nitty gritty parts of the season.
Just reminded me of a story there that I remember speaking to a former old firm manager who went down south after he'd managed up here. And he said that he was going into the cafeteria. They had a three o'clock kickoff on a Saturday, his team. And it was also Old Form Day up here. And he said that he went into the canteen for everyone to go and get their food.
And he's looking about on the TVs and he's going to all the players. if you don't get the game on and all the players are going what game?
and it's like Celtic and Rangers are playing today and all the players were like oh no not interested in that just shows the sort of bubble that we can be in sometimes although you see from this season there was the global appeal of Scottish football as well so it swings both ways thank you to David in Barhead what about David in Cumbernauld David are you happy that Lorne Shanklin looks to be moving to Rangers?
I'm as well hanging up. I don't know if Davies or Davies is singing in my brain, but you stole my thunder.
No, on you go, David. Make the point yourself. You're all good, David. Make the point yourself.
Right. Under pressure now.
