Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball. We got two powers in the AL. That's it. A lot going on in the National League. First to worst in the NL Central. Let's talk ball. What am I going to be? Andres Munoz.
Billy Butler based at the center.
Keeps the inning alive. Hello and welcome to Talkin' Baseball Pinch Run.
Chapter 2: What were the key highlights of the Cubs vs. Reds series?
Talkin' Baseball is presented by Fanatics Markets. We're fans straight on sports. Fanatics Markets available now on the app stores. I'm Jake Storielli. That is Trevor Plouffe. Rob Scirocco producing. Daltz assembled a sheet. And we are at it. It is May 8th. Wow.
Chapter 3: What injuries impacted the Dodgers and Astros game?
Happy 8th day Mayo to everyone that celebrates Mother's Day Sunday. Get it together, people. This is your last call of last call, basically. Coach Trev, you made a face that looks like you don't have a gift secured yet.
I do.
I do.
I'm working on something else. First of all, Billy Butler, a 290 hitter.
Yeah.
Back when hitters were hitters.
He was aiming for the gaps.
Yeah, and then could barely get to second base when he hit the ball.
These modern hitting coaches would have had him trying to pull the ball like Isak Paredes, and who knows if it would have worked or not.

Chapter 4: How is Shohei Ohtani performing this season?
Phillies. Are the Phillies back? They take two out of three from the Athletics. At one point, when they win those first two games, I think they were 8-1 under new manager Dom Mattingly. They lose the final game of the set. A's bullpen blows that second game, and they've blown a lot of leads for the Athletics. Where would they be in the standings otherwise? Shea Banglears is still out of his mind.
And Bryce Harper, people are saying he might be elite again. just not his GM. Brewers and Cardinals end up splitting two because we get a rainout postponed game. They'll play five in July. Let me know where we are for that one. Jackson Churrio comes back. Andrew Vaughn comes back. Maybe that's the bigger news for the Brewers.
And the Cardinals, just where they are in the standings is kind of mind-boggling. The Mets take two out of three. That should be good news, right? It is. Unfortunately, the final game of the series against the Colorado Rockies ends with a little bit of controversy. A check swing into a grand salami has the Mets losing that final game. Jake McCarthy, nice name.
Leaves the Mets feeling a little sour, and the Rockies get their one win on the homestand. Woof. And the final National League series we will talk about. The Baltimore Orioles take two out of three from the Marlins. This was fun baseball. The Orioles take the first two games. Adley with the big pinch hit. Go ahead.
shot it was a hit it wasn't a shot i guess uh pete alonzo three run homer a lot of sliders to him this series here's the update liam hicks is a guy guy um man and joe mack with the game winner kind of kobe mayo with the bobble that was tough to watch otherwise the birds take two out of three that's what happened in the national league great job uh
That's something I was about to say, but instead I'll just give you the standings because that's what the people want anyway. You just read the NL. You know what? Let's mix it up today. Let's start out west.
Okay.
We're the Dodgers. I'm wearing a Dodger hat today. Deal with it, people. This is my Rams hat.
Oh, is it say undefeated? Yeah. Yeah.

Chapter 5: What were the standout performances in the latest games?
He has his second quality start. Travis Darnot with the big homer as they knock around young Noah Schultz to get the series win. And, of course, the best for last. The Minnesota Twins took on the Nationals. Twins win that first game. Taj Bradley keeps happening. Is Brooks Lee happening? I know Byron Buxton is. It's Nationals the rest of the way.
Miles Michaelis with a nice start in that one as the Nationals offense gives him 15. Because C.J. Abrams is a bad man.
a bad man um also the k barry reese game where were you three hits four rbi they take the series over the twins that's what happened in the american league rice up save my twins for last i don't know if i love that ryan valade same high school as matt and jackson holiday and brett anderson stillwater oklahoma i have the standings uh
And we're doing the AL. And I started with the West with the NL. So I'll do the same thing here. The Athletics still in first place at 19 and 18. The only team above 500. They're a game and a half above the Mariners who are 18 and 20. Texas 17 and 20. Houston down bad 15 and 23. Angels down bad 15 and 23. In the Central, one team. Over 500, same as the West. 20-19, Cleveland Guardians.
They have a one-and-a-half game lead over the Tigers, who are 18-20. White Sox, 17-20. Royals, 17-21. And the Twins, 16-22. It's a shit show. What it is, people. Out East, we got two teams. 2-1-1 equals four teams, 500 or better. 26-12 for the Yanks. Half game over the Rays were 25-12, and then it's Baltimore 17-21, Toronto 16-21, and the Red Sox 16-22. Only 10 games out.
Hey, man. Great standings, Trevor. Here's what I will say. the Rays are playing great baseball. The Yanks are good. Uh, the rest of the American league, if you still want to fire up the engines, you got time. Um, the guards and athletics on top of their divisions, one game above 500 each. And yeah, man, I, the Boston Red Sox.
I want people to think about this at 16 and 22 are technically two games out of the wild card right now. Like we're still at that point of the season that, uh, If Chad Tracy's socks figure it out, and they did for a series, they sweep the Tigres. Coach, I do think the conversation, and I don't know yet in my head that Boston lost last night, but they did.
I guess your thoughts on the Framber incident. I feel like, did we talk about it in the midweek a little bit? No, we didn't. So I guess the people want to know what you think about it.
I think he hit Trevor Story on purpose. I don't know if there's any way around it. This actually caused a lot of drama throughout baseball. If you don't know, Framberg gave up two homers right before this. He'd gotten shelled. And it was the first four-seamer that he'd thrown all year. And there's no pitch that has a pitch profile like that. So it really seemed like it was intentional.

Chapter 6: What is the significance of Framber Valdez's incident?
That's kind of my spin zone on it. Frambert needs to figure it out, dude.
Yeah.
And the problem is now it's like they have to rely on him for the foreseeable future. Scoobs is out, had surgery, loose bodies in the elbow, and he has to be the ace. For the Tigers to stay in this, he has to be the ace. And I don't know if he's there mentally right now. And maybe I just don't even know what I'm talking about because maybe Franberg lives here.
Maybe he's going to go off on a freaking run now. Yeah. We've seen him do that, but that would scare me, obviously, if I was a Tigers fan.
And Tigers have entered the injury chat conversation that a couple teams have been yelling for. Casey Mize, Scooble, Verlander. I mean, going back to Reese Olsen, Troy Melton, Bo Briski, Will Vest. Like, they've... They have felt that. It's no excuse for horrible defense. They've been like the worst defensive team. Jimmy Norp told us a little bit about that.
Very interested to see their next steps. And the Sox, like I said, I know we've mentally put them in a very different place, but still a lot of baseball to be played. Getting Sonny Gray back helps. Brian Baio with a nice bulk appearance. So you need the Jimmys and the Joes still have to do it in this sport.
That'd be interesting if we just got an opener for Brian Baio and he just turned it around.
It's a weird thing. It kind of works.

Chapter 7: How did the Mariners perform against the Braves?
Oh, he cut his hair too.
And that's what matters.
I can't really see that video right there, but the last time that Chad Tracy took him out of the game, he had longer hair.
Okay.
That does help. Can't hurt. Sometimes you just need something different. Gosh, I had something that I was about to say about the – oh, no, the Tigers. You mentioned their defense. They're another one of those teams that just has everyone kind of playing random positions. Yeah. Like close to their position, but maybe not.
Like you got Javi Baez in center field, and he goes to shortstop, and it's just like it all kind of seems like nobody's got their primary position going right now. And that matters as far as being comfortable defensively.
Yeah, it feels like the formula is have the one guy that can really pick it everywhere, and if he moves around, that's cool, but let everyone else get their feet set.

Chapter 8: What changes did Kazuma Okamoto make to improve his performance?
They move McGonigal around, they move Keith around, and it's just, I don't know. It's not working, so you get to be critical of it, and I think properly so. Red Sox, join the party, because right now, It's all Tampa Bay Rays in the ALBs, baby. Trev, some of the pitching numbers that keep popping up for them, historic. They haven't allowed three runs in 13 straight games.
That only trails the 2010 Giants. They did good on that streak. McClanahan is pitching again for him. For him, the Rays will call them. And yeah, man, what they... They have their recipe, dude. When that speed shows up, it is a problem. Again, I know last night's game didn't happen, but Chandler Simpson torments the Red Sox. What do you have on this?
I think the Rays are becoming a real problem because of that pitching stuff. I mean, that's the anchor for the Rays right now, what they've been able to do. And I love that McClanahan's coming back looking like this.
Show that pitch again.
Yeah, that's absolutely filthy right there. What? And pair that up with a freaking heater right off that same pitch, same tunnel. You got no chance right there.
Oh, God.
Oh, God.
And then he can put it down.
Yeah, he's been looking great. We've talked a ton about Nick Martinez and how good he's been. Drew Rasmussen, you can say the exact same thing. And then we've kind of spent a lot of time, and I feel like it hasn't been this way in recent years, talking about the Rays and just kind of what they can do offensively. They can kill you with the speed. They have the pop, too.
