I'm doing great. How's your summer going?
Pretty good. It's been crappy weather, but now it's finally starting to get nice this week. Um yeah, it's been like an extended spring. It feels like it's never gonna end. But you know, white is at the end of the tunnel for sure because It is definitely warmed up. We were talking for like 30 seconds before. Like I said, we're kind of just because of timing and everything, we just thought it would be easier for both of us and I asked Eric to be on my show and we just said, you know what, let's knock two or kill two birds with one stone. Typically Eric is the guy on his show. centered on Buffalo, asking the questions. Um, we're gonna flip that 'cause I'm gonna I got some stuff that I need to ask you while I got you on.
Well, I suppose your show, which is kind of funny. I was telling my wife and uh my son. I said, Yeah, I got Eric on the show and We're kind of doing a collaborative thing. And I said Josh Allen was just on his show last week. And now I'm on this week. I'm like, something don't add up for me there, but uh whatever, man. I will uh
Hey, I like talking to you about as much as anybody. Now I will say my kids aren't sitting outside the room to see when we're finished to come say hi to Pat, but they did for Josh last week. But who knows? They might surprise me here in a roo in here in a few minutes.
That's fair. I I got I got a serious question that I actually want to ask you. So you're going into your ninth year now of being in the the media, like since retiring. This is your ninth year being in the media. Time flies. I don't wanna age you too much, but you're 40 years old, right? You spent you've spent, Eric, you've spent nearly a quarter of your life now. working in media. Do you ever stop to think about it in that way? Because I mean, football's all you've known. You and you're still obviously in football, just not playing, but you play high school and college. You have a nice long pro career. But now you've been in this for nearly a quarter of your life you've been doing this. I remember talking to you when you were just transitioning from playing and retiring to to getting into this field.
You ever stop and think about that? It's it's kind of wild, isn't it?
Yeah, and I get asked often, hey, when was your last year? And, you know, twenty seventeen season keeps sounding further and further away. And uh it's interesting. I'm glad you brought up uh almost a quarter of my life because I'm actually going up to Buffalo to speak to the rookies next week about a few things, but mainly talking about media and how you handle the media and how It can be a total asset for you, but it can also be a detriment if you don't handle social media the right way or certain media members and you gotta treat them with respect. But also, you know, at times they have an agenda and a story and you don't have to write that for 'em. You know, when they ask you questions, you don't have to answer their sentence.
You know what I mean? It's your words and when when you're on TV and and you see yourself, you're generally not gonna hear the question that was asked. So you can answer it in the way you want, but look, those guys have a job. The league revenue uh from media contracts is 10 to 12 billion annually. That goes a long way to making the salary cap go up every year. So uh everybody's got a job in this industry, they help pay the bills as well. So you want to treat them with respect. All that being said, uh, I can now tell them almost a quarter of my life I've been well working in this industry now. So I can give you some pointers. And I also for nine years in the league. I feel like handled the media with a certain amount of respect that when I did transition out, there were so many guys that had my back and helped me transition to this because I treated them well while I was playing.
