This is Friday's United Daily Podcast. I'm Wim Barton bringing you today's news and rumours. Quite a few little bits to get through today. United of course have moved closer to the signing of Andre Santos. They have struck an agreement with Chelsea for the Brazil midfielder. Forty eight million pounds plus two million pounds in expected. Add-ons, this deal is expected to be concluded quite swiftly. Um Santos expected to undergo a medical. A few people at Stamford Bridge upset that um that Chelsea have moving him on. There's a bit of a farm down there, isn't there, in terms of how they get people in and out uh with a PSR. I'm not really a big fan of United engaging in these kind of transfers. Um Obviously they've kept Mountain for a long time.
They did the same with Matic, so that's fine that they'll they'll be doing the same with Santos, he's twenty two years old. There's obviously um the necessity to keep him there for a long time. But um it's not an inspiring um sign in by the um standards of the summer so far, you know. Obviously the t main target was Mateus Fernandez who's gone to um Spa Spurs the The golden ticket signing was Elliot Anderson who already went to Um Uh to Manchester City, obviously these signings are over eighty-five million pounds, hundred million pound. United are not in the market for that kind of player, it seems. Um I don't know how high they were trying to push or how high they were really willing to go with um Fernandez, but this deal for um for the um Chelsea midfielder Santos is around fifty million pounds.
So I tell you they're basically level for for the two midfielders they've brought in anyway it'll be around eighty million pound, which I suppose in the market today isn't terrible for a bet if you're still looking at two players with squad sidings related, d don't strike you as players who are gonna rise the floor in terms of um how United are expected to challenge for a major trophies this season. That's the big thing, you know obviously. City have got stronger, Spurs have got stronger, Arsenal will get stronger, um, Liverpool as well, all these teams are gonna get stronger, Chelsea will be spending that money on someone won't they as well. So yeah.
Which midfielders is United linked with after Santos, and why are they considered ‘A‑list’ targets?
Um another midfielder being linked to United is France midfielder Manu Kone, who plays for Juventus, Juventus are looking to move him on because he's um done quite well. For them, twenty five year old, um Um if if they can get a decent money for him. Anyway, United are allegedly preparing to make a move for him. I'm not sure about this. I think that United are still looking for like a bit of an A-list target for for the third midfielder that they're after. It won't be too many though because he has agreed to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. Five year deal. Hm. Well it tells you enough about where where United are gonna be with that one, right? Um they were widely expected to make Chuomeni. Their primary target after failing to um sign Anderson and Fernandez, um they wanted that blockbuster sign in but um I think they they might have even got a little bit of encouragement from Chiumani to make the inquiry from Real Madrid, but maybe that was games from the players' part trying to coax.
That contract out of Real Madrid, and he did. You know, he's got the deal that he wanted. Um, so well done. Now, like, at least it was done swiftly, not like Frankie Deonga. Other players that we've been used in that regard in the summer before this one. Um, another player whose transfer saga we'll be rumbling on is that of Marcus Rashford. Conflicting reports this week. Um, United are apparently. apparently gonna aim to push a transfer through for him before they go for their um preseason training c camp in Dublin in August. But the Guardian Rose also reporting that we are um attempting to reintegrate Rashford into the squad under Michael Carrick. Hmm. Uh United are preparing to make an opening bid for Matthias Marne.
A lot of Matthias's and Fernandez is around.
