This is Monday's United Daily Podcast. I'm Wayne Barton with today's news and rumours. It's been an international friendly weekend as the countries prepare for the forthcoming World Cup. Um there was some updates, some good updates over the weekend, unfortunately one one bad one.
What happened to Christian Eriksen during the Ukraine friendly?
Christian Ericsson collapsed in yesterday's friendly with Ukraine. Happened around an hour into the game after sixty-five minutes. the game was abandoned. Ericsson was thankfully able to walk away from the incident. Um But the game was still abandoned and um obviously a lot of concern for Christian Erickson. The Danish doctor Morton Borsen uh provided a a good report after the match. He said Christian is doing well. He walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious but regained consciousness very quickly. And we were quickly in contact with him. He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital, but Christian is doing well and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay, yeah.
Thankfully he's okay.
How is Christian Eriksen recovering after the collapse?
Um we'll wait to see what what the next step is for Christian but hopefully um he's recording. Covering well and taking plenty of rest after um a scary incident yesterday. Um Ahmad scored for the Ivory Coast over the weekend in a two one win over France. It was actually the winning goal in Nantes, um so well done Ahmad. Um France's World Cup hopes not done uh well by um well World Cup preparation not done the best um by losing. In in in Nantes um of the weekend. Transfer rumours, Real Madrid have been uh linked with a move for Matias Fernandez. Obviously, Jose Mourinho reappointed there as their new manager again. Well he is um obviously he's been linked with a few of his countrymen, Bernardo Silva, even a Bruno Fernandez link was in there at some point.
Uh Matias Fernandez, West Am looking to move him on. Um that would suit West Ham quite well to be honest, but um we'll we'll see what happens there. West Ham are quoting 80 million pound. I don't think they're gonna get the kind of auction that they were hoping for, but um they might be able to drive the price up a little bit. United's still hoping that the deal will be done around sixty million pounds, maybe five million in add-ons. Same kind of conversation they were in with Brian and Boomer last year, and I think that's where they expect it to end. I don't think Real Madrid are interested enough to make an offer. It helps West Ham at this moment in time, but I think United have a they're they're pretty confident that Fernandez has expressed that he wants to go to them.
Um so we'll see what happens there. Edison has been called up to the Brazil squad. I know he's not strictly Manchester United news yet. He's agreed a deal to move to United. All paperwork is apparently done, and everyone's expecting that to be done in Early July. Um he was meant to be out of the Brazil squad, of course, but he was in the original uh fifty five and he's been called up because of an injury there.

So um good luck to Edison in the World Cup. Um Harry Maguire could be open to moving. We talked last week about um uh a transfer speculation that linked him with a move to Italy again. I thought that was just nonsense coming out of Italy. However, there's um I And I don't know if this is just something off the back of that, but um yeah, speculation this morning that Harry Maguire could be open to moving, even though he's only just signed a new contract. We never rule anything out in football. Mark uses free transfer uh or low transfer after signing a new contract, just after Andy Cole signed, uh tells us enough there. I'm a pretty Um, other news around the world of football, Paul Pogba says Michael Carrick will be a good manager for Manchester United.
