is Saturday's United Daily Podcast. I'm Wayne Barton with today's news and rumours. United yesterday picked their first win up of preseason. They won five nil over Rosenborg at the Lurkendal Stadium in Norway. Um, Shea Lacey scored with a great curling effort, the kind of which he's renowned for, cutting in from the right and finishing with the left. Joshua Zooks he scored a great goal just after half time where he um dummied the defence and then dummied the goalkeeper, the kind of goal that will never happen in um actual competitive football. United made loads of substitutes on the hour, um and Jacob Devaney, Ari Amas and Ethan Williams all scored goals to make it three, four and five now. Devaney and Armas with tappins in front of goal really.

Um, Xerxey Lacey and Andre Santos were probably the standouts from the the players who started the game. Xerxy um getting a lot of praise for his performance, but again you have to take into account the fact it was a uh a very low key warm up kind of game and his goal very extravagantly taken but he's just, you know, i almost classical in in how different his composure is to

How did Michael Carrick evaluate United’s performance after the Rosenborg win?

Wayne Barton 1:29
Um uh senior football, uh, but a g a great goal nonetheless. We've seen plenty of them scored in in um Friendlies over the years. Um so Michael Carrick spoke to club media after the game and um he gave a few comments these are from manunited.com, so go and check that out if you um so wish. He said he's happy with the performance, the clean sheet, uh scoring goals and everyone by the looks of it came through injuries free, so that's what you want at this stage. As much as we want everything to improve and performances to be better all the time, keeping players fit and progressing through pre season is as important as anything. Two games, two weeks. I think we can take where we are and we're pretty happy.

The second half younger players coming on. I thought they were fantastic. They played as a team really well and deserve what they got from the second half. He said, um, it's important to build through the preseason. Some players need more minutes than others as they go along and we're managing some players a little bit. more than others. Before the game I said it's never gonna be perfect, we're only two weeks in and you're kinda building towards that. So I thought there was a lot of good things. Some of the goals were fantastic and it was just as pleasing to keep a clean sheet. Um we're moving forward nicely. On V Tek, who started in goal, um he I think he played he played a bit longer than the the rest of the starters and he earned special praise.
Wayne Barton 2:53
He said Radick got good minutes, just over seventy, so I'm really pleased with what he did today and Dermot me coming on towards the end was nice to get him on the pitch. Thought we defended pretty well as a team, uh there were a couple of little bits earlier on that we had to work out. But though we defended well and protected the goalkeepers largely, but clean sheets are a beautiful thing. Uh V Tech's still looking for that low move. Um hopefully he gets it or a permanent move I should say at this point, I think he's looking for um He was asked about the young players in particular and he said this is the best place to be as a footballer when you're in that zone and you're confident and that's obviously my job to try and get the players in that frame of mind.

Why are the young players being praised and what did the coach say about their development?

Wayne Barton 3:32
The senior players at this stage are finding their way. But you can see they're in a good place and getting used to having good results over a period of time, which is good. The younger players when you see them expressing themselves and being themselves and keep pushing themselves to be better I think some of the play second half was really good. Really, really good in fact he said. Um I was delighted to see that from them because that's what you hope for. They've all got potential in different ways and you want them s fulfill it and keep pushing themselves and they certainly did that.
