This is Saturday's United Daily Podcast. I'm Wayne Barton with today's news and rumors. Um United's interest in Somerville, the West Ham winger, uh goes on. They made an inquiry this week, um, I think just to keep the negotiations with West Ham alive. Um they had inquired about a double deal with him and Fernandez. I think they're just registering that they are still in interested in Somerville, the Dutch winger um who has been given a fifty million price tag by West Ham. Now West Ham are in a different position than they were this time last week. Their deal of um Fernandez is now complete of course uh to to Spurs so they're not in any mad rush to to raise money so they will be sticking to that uh fee I would guess that they will be
Uh Fulham are the latest club to be um said to be interested in Somerville. Um obviously you would think United are a a more appealing destination. Um Fulham might be thinking that there's the London advantage with um with that maybe playing a part in Fernandez's move to Spurs as well. I don't know about this. Um I'm not denying that Fulham are interested. I don't think Fulham would beat United. United in a in a one-on-one race. I'm not sure about how how far United would go with fifty million pounds because they're still interested in offloading Marcus Rashford, but he is at the club with a hefty wage packet as well, so it will be influenced by what happens there.
Is United seriously pursuing West Ham winger Sam Somerville?
But I do think we might see a few surprises this summer with how United sticks. the budget and um how far other clubs are willing to go to push it in order to strengthen their own um their own squads really because you know United are in a bit of a bind where they need to do that but a lot of clubs have got a lot of money to splash. So um yeah it's a bit of a weird market this summer and I don't think United can necessarily do anything otherwise It might the the pinch might cost them this summer in in who they're going for. Um th it does look like they brief in that they are still interested in Alex Scott and Aurel Aurelian Tuomene, the French midfielder. Um Real Madrid uh not necessarily guaranteed to sell Chuomene.
Um I think they're waiting to see um I think Mourinho Waiting to get the shape of the squad back for pre season before making a decision there. That one the two a mini one is something that might run into um the late August. That that's my suspicion with that one. I don't think that that's straightforward. Even though if he he was to come anywhere, if he'd go move anywhere, he'd be one of the highest profile transfers, wouldn't he? Because he's one of the he'd be one of the most uh the best player Players who are uh best midfielders who are available on the market this summer. But um, you know, United aren't in the market to pay a hundred million pounds for any player, let alone a midfielder. They've made that quite clear.
Um so they'll be hoping for something a bit lower. Obviously Alex Scott is in that fifty to sixty million price bracket, but he'll be pushed up to seventy to eighty at the moment because of the way that the market's gone. There was that talk uh before the um
What midfield options (Alex Scott, Aurelian Tuomene) could United consider?
Summer kicked off that he would sign a contract that had a seventy five million pound release clause in it. Obviously that would have been, you know, higher than it was to ward off interest, wouldn't it? But now you would think that that's probably the price that Bournemouth are looking at. Um that those two players and Carlos Baliba are said to be United's primary three targets. So we'll see um if there's gonna be any movement in the next couple of weeks on any of those players, of course, believers not at the World Cup is he? So um So away from the midfielders it's quite a busy um goalkeeper day in terms of the transfer speculation. So the first up Is United working on a deal to sign San Johnstone? Um obviously familiar to any United fan because he came through the youth system at the club.
He um is at Wolves, they went down, obviously.
