TalkSport, powered by fans. Welcome to Thursday's United Daily Podcast. I'm Wayne Barton with today's news and rumours. United announced their retained list yesterday and that means that Jadon Sancho, Casemiro and Tyrell Malasia have all officially been granted free transfers at the end of their contract. There was an option, of course, on Jadon Sancho's to be prolonged for an extra year. No one wanted that misery, so Sancho has been... Allowed to leave for free without that option being exercised. Kasimiro and Malhasio obviously were announced well ahead of time.

Is Nico Williams really being linked with a move to Manchester United?

Wayne Barton 0:47
And yeah, the contracts expire on the 30th of June. They are not on the retain list. So they will be moving on. So good luck to all of them. United are interested in Nicole Williams. That is one rumour from this morning. I can't see this one. To any kind of fruition, the Bilbao winger is really being strongly mentioned with Arsenal, and I think United is just a throwaway in there to make him look like a coveted player. One to keep an eye on though, Illiman, Ndai, the Everton and Senegal forward being linked again with United.

Which Everton forward could United sign later this transfer window?

Wayne Barton 1:23
This is one I expect... will resurface off and on over the summer. United are looking for a striker to play back up to Benjamin Sesko. They want a better alternative than Joshua Xerxe. They want a cost-effective alternative. And Dain might not be cost-effective. It might be one of those that Everton do ask a lot of money for him. But I imagine this one will go late in the window because United will be... Looking for other options first and their need will be ascertained towards the end of the window, won't it?

What midfield targets are United considering and where might they end up?

Wayne Barton 2:00
Whether or not they've got the kind of money to go in for NDI, whether or not Everton will be more reasonable, that kind of thing. All those kind of things will be weighed up towards the end of the window. I can't see it being a priority right now, even though he's a name on United's list quite high in terms of the forwards that they're looking at. Hayden Hackney is one of the beat options in United's midfield targets, but it looks again like he's going to go elsewhere. Close to signing for Everton last week, but it looks actually like he's going to go to Crystal Palace. One of the two now at this point, the Middlesbrough midfielder. Known, of course, to Michael Carrick. It's one of those where I think people are more...
Wayne Barton 2:42
Curious to see how he does in the Premier League for a so-called smaller club before he takes a leap to the big club, you know, heightening exactly the kind of profile of player, just like Adam Walton, that you can imagine, if he does well, being moving on for £60 or £70 million in a couple of years' time, or at least being linked with those kind of moves.

Who was Ray Wood and why is he featured in today’s ‘On This Day’ story?

Wayne Barton 3:03
And that's it for today, apart from one on this day story to bring you. Ray Wood, the goalkeeper of the Busby Babes, was born on this day in 1931. Steady goalkeeper, caused not a lot of fuss, and was, of course, a survivor of the Munich air crash as well. Though he would only play one more time for United after the disaster. Of course, owing to the fact that United had signed Harry Gregg as first choice the previous November, previous December anyway. And that's it for today, guys. I'll be back tomorrow with the news and gossip.
