This is Thursday's United Daily Podcast. I'm Wayne Barton with today's news and rumours. Manchester United have been linked with Crescencio Somerville, the Dutch winger who has had a decent season at West Ham, scored a few goals, had a really hot scoring streak.
What are the latest transfer rumours linking Manchester United with West Ham winger Crescencio Somerville?
Well, his name was linked to United by David Ornstein. He said that United had made an inquiry about him. That has been taken and run with by a few others. I'm not sure how linked the stories are. I think United made a separate inquiry regarding Somerville and it's been put together with the Fernandes transfer story speculation. Now, whether or not United want them both, there was a story or a source coming from West Ham saying that West Ham want £140 million for both of them. United have said something quite about both of them. Again, I'm not sure that this is a combined story, but this was a story that's been doing the rounds, is that that's West Ham's response to that. I think if United were looking at doing a deal for them individually, then yeah, alright, maybe they would be looking at fees that would push that combined deal over £100m.
But I think if they were going for a double deal with West Ham, they would have probably looked to start it at around £100m. I'd be very surprised if West Ham get more than £100m combined for any of their players from Manchester United this summer. they're still looking at trying to get that initial fee down for Fernandes the expectation is it will be something lower than £80m rising to £85m with add-ons at some point United are confident of getting that deal done Fernandes has pretty much given his word that he wants to go to United even though there was speculation about Real Madrid coming in with a bid United are fairly confident of getting their man. They're just playing the waiting game.
West Ham do need to sell. Fernandes is their golden goose at the moment. It seems very surprising. There was a story saying that West Ham are confident that they could hold on and get £100m for him at the end of the season, but no-one's paying £100m for a Championship player, even one as good as Fernandes. So they want to strike while the iron's hot. in terms of cashing in on their asset.

United, they're interested in Somerville, may well go over the summer and see what goes on there. They want their back up on that left-hand side. But they might have found one. Marcus Rashford feels like there's a soft reset going on in terms of his reputation and being welcomed back into the fold of the club. obviously Michael Carrick has known him he's coached him beforehand they're not ruling out him going back to United and he scored last night in the World Cup win over Croatia so fair play to Marcus it was a decent goal as well he had a chance just after but he tried to do exactly the same thing albeit a little bit further out I think Saka released the ball to him a little bit later on the second one but the first goal was really smartly done Saka's release was perfectly timed
Rashford cut back and finished very smartly yeah it's not his first World Cup goal as well Marcus a reminder of the value that he brings well over the paltry £13 million that was offered by Barcelona for him well worth the £26 million that was in the transfer in the loan close that they had for him United are said to be put off dealing with Barcelona considering their conduct over that Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Rashford which isn't a surprise considering they did quite well on loan there but there is this kind of soft rumbling that United are prepared to give Rashford another chance around the squad. So, I mean, all right, it costs a lot in his wages, but it might end up being a more cost-effective option than bringing in a player like Somerville or anyone, really.
