I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to you.

Coaches, welcome back to the Talking Sweep Podcast. Unusual to have an Abe Simpson on here and not be old man yells at Cloud. But uh we've gone with either way. I am Rob Colder, joined on this episode by Zoe Carr. Welcome Zoe.
Zoe Carr 0:35
Thank you for having me.
Rob Coulter 0:36
Nick Mehai, welcome to you as well. Thanks for having me, Rob. Excellent to have all of you along for the pod this week. We'll get into it shortly, but to start off we have some intro music we haven't heard for a little while now.

The coach shout-out the coach shout-out The gone shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gold shout-out, the gun shout out

Easily my least preferred intro music. However, the premise behind it is excellent. So this coach shout out is to the legend, that is Dave Herbert. Came to the Northeast Bush Rangers to run some sessions with our Northeast Bushies playing and academy groups on Sunday, and Herbie didn't stop. He was on the floor from eleven thirty a.m. through to five p.m. multiple age groups and sessions, literally non-stop. We had to force him to have a food break at one point. You can see why such why he's so good at what he does, and you can see why all of the elite people in whatever field it is are elite. The passion, commitment, the demand for excellence, the joy in the work, fantastic day for the athletes and also coach development.
Rob Coulter 1:48
So cracking job, Dave Herbert, on that one. We obviously use him for a lot of coach education stuff on our end as well, but fantastic to see him getting up there. Of course, if you do have any coaches that you would like to throw a shout out to, you can just send those through coaching at baseball victoria dot com dot au or you can slide into the Instagram DMs and we'll pick it up from there. The topic for today things you used to believe in but now don't. Basketball edition. We're not going like ghosts or anything like that. We're going legitimate things you used to believe in from a basketball edition. So not conspiracy theories or anything. No no no, we're saving that for
Nick Mehai 2:22
Do you very much still believe it's that's why Rob deleted that list I first sent, right? that's why Rob deleted that list I first sent, right? That's exactly right. Exactly right. Man,
Rob Coulter 2:26
who knew JFK? Like that was like so what we're getting into is the basketball space. So I'm happy to start this one off uh today. My first one is I used to believe that jump balls were great for the sport. Uh sorry, no jump balls were great for the sport. I was gonna say I yeah, the first one I was like I still I didn't forget to write my own notes on this one as it turns out. Uh I thought the possession arrow was a great idea. Like it it sped the game up, it was better. Now I can't stand it. It gets to the end of a game, you fight, you dive on the loose ball for a possession, you have a great defensive set, and all of a sudden you you manage to tie a team up, jump ball, and they get the ball back. And it just feels like it
Rob Coulter 3:08
deflates the entire game as you're almost just going off luck as to what it looks like on that. I for mine bring back the jump ball, like in in all facets.
Zoe Carr 3:16
Yeah, I I like it um in like under eights and under tens, like especially domestic. Like how many times have you watched they throw the jumble, jump ball, jump ball, jump bowl jump ball. Um but yeah, in the old age. Yeah, and like tip plays and all that kind of fun stuff. It was awesome. It was so good and foot wrestle for who can get the inside

spot. That's what's That's what I
Nick Mehai 3:41
was gonna say, like you can even like coaches have lost a little bit of the art of being able to draw up a play off a jump ball because you kinda don't invest in it. There's only one at the start and that's it, right? Like Yeah, you kinda go, This is how we're gonna start. You have a base of it, but like that's what I miss as well. I'm I'm a all on board for bringing the jump ball back so you can draw some stuff up and run some cool actions and
