What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Louise Bedford 0:02
Louise Bedford here, the money chick and the host of the Talking Trading Podcast. If you've ever sat there staring at a chart, knowing you should act, but feeling unsure about what to do next, this episode is for you. Because most traders don't fail from lack of information, they fail from too much of it. Today on Talking Trading, I'm joined by Diana Perkins, founder of Trading with Diana, and one of the clearest process thinkers I have come across in this industry. In this conversation, we unpack why your results don't come from smarter predictions. They come from a cleaner process, a process that removes hesitation, quiets the noise and gives you confidence before the pressure shows up. Diana has spent years helping professionals make calm, repeatable decisions under real world pressure.

And what she shares today will change the way you think about structure, routine and trust in your own execution.

How will a reliable trading process stop me second-guessing at the chart?

Louise Bedford 1:12
So if you're tired of second guessing, overwhelmed by inputs or unsure why confidence disappears when it matters the most, stay with us. This episode is about trading with clarity, not chaos. Let's go with Diana Perkins. Diana Perkins, welcome to the show. Now, for the person listening, when they take to heart everything you're about to share, what sort of changes can they expect both in their life but also in their trading?
Diana Perkins 1:48
You know, first and foremost, they'll stop second guessing themselves. When you have a process and the discipline to follow it, you'll make fewer emotional decisions. You'll stop making fear-based decisions in the market, and you'll have more confidence in knowing when not to trade if the setups don't align. So the first change isn't necessarily results. It's calmer decisions, and then the results will follow.
Louise Bedford 2:15
I love that because so often we think of this world as being incredibly complex and so complicated and it can be difficult to move through that when we're just starting and we don't really know what we're doing. So I'd love to hear a story about one of your people that moved into confidence because they had a process to follow.
Diana Perkins 2:38
Yes. So I have a trader that comes to mind. Now, in addition to working with those who are new to investing in the stock markets, I also work with aspiring professional traders. So this example, it's a woman that I worked with who was an options trader, and we had been working together for a few months. She had a trading plan strategy. It was excellent. very detailed. She had proven it out in a demo account. But when it came time to trade live capital, she got nervous. She contracted. And she didn't want to place that first trade. So what we did is we put together a strategy that involved some back testing, but also some trading on a simulated trader account. So anyone who has experience with those, it's great.
Diana Perkins 3:27
You place a trade. advance the chart forward in time. And you see how it plays out because I knew from working with her that she had the technical skills. It was just a matter of confidence. So she went through her plan. She put on some more trades. She saw the results and she gained that confidence. And then moving forward, her first nine months of trading were profitable above her high watermark, which is very unusual for any of us I know that was not my story when I started but it came from that confidence and we would have checkpoints every month and we would talk through her questions and what was new as her account grew there you know there are different things that you're working through and for her it wasn't a matter of not having a good process but it was a matter of trusting that process
Diana Perkins 4:19
So you could have the best trading plan strategy ever written, but if you don't have the discipline to follow it or you don't trust it, you won't make better trading decisions.
Louise Bedford 4:31
And the other thing that happens is that when we start trading, usually it's quite quick for our initial stop loss to be hit because things either work or they don't and it's fairly fast. So often you hit your stop loss early quite quickly in the beginning.
