Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Hello, it's Ed Gamble here, host of the Taskmaster podcast, sat where I live now, in the Taskmaster caravan on the Taskmaster estate. We'll be talking about Taskmaster, Series 21, Episode 7, with the brilliant John Kearns. John Kearns is one of my favourite comedians in the world, he's one of my favourite men in the world, he has been on Taskmaster.
We will chat to him about this episode that we have just seen, and hopefully you've seen as well, Series 21, Episode 7. Hopefully John's seen it as well. We will be chatting about everything that happened on there. John will be sharing his thoughts on the new series. And if the chat with John goes as these often go, it'll end up all over the place. John is on tour.
He's doing his show, Tilting at Windmills, up to November 2026. And you can get tickets from johnkernscomedy.co.uk. If you missed that, don't worry. I'll remind you after the episode as well. Here's Taskmaster Series 21, Episode 7, as discussed by John Kearns. Welcome back, John, to the Taskmaster podcast. Thanks for having me. Finally got you in the caravan for the Taskmaster podcast.
We've been on Zoom for the last couple of times we've done it. Done Zooms? Yeah. Nice to be here.
Money has stayed the same.
You know, I thought... Yeah. No. You'll be happy to hear, likewise.
Hey, no, happy. Well, you know, I'm back in here. yeah does it feel good memories in here four years ago i was in there uh yeah i don't know this is where i found out i had to uh sabotage my team yes i thought i was being brought back in here for a a re-filming and they shut the door on me and then they filmed me and i don't like that
For anyone listening, or anyone who maybe does this show in the future, they will be always, aside from, I don't know, the toilet, they are always filming it. You're always being filmed.
I don't think that's, what about in the dressing room?

Chapter 2: How does John Kearns feel about his experience on Taskmaster?
They think they're on Michael McIntyre's show.
But they've been doing Taskmaster.
Imagine doing that. Imagine you're going to do The Wheel. Yeah. So you sit down... And we blindfold you. Oh, really? I never knew that. Yeah, we blindfold you before you start the wheel. Oh, I never knew. The things you learn. Joke. You're actually in the Palladium. It's my Saturday night show. Uh, all right. False. Curtain up. You're actually at BBC Studios.
You're on Taskmaster.
You're on Taskmaster. So you do have to hire in Michael McIntyre for that bit.
Yeah, you do. For the first two bits, you've got to hire him in.
For the first two bits.
Yeah.
Because they think they're on the wheel.

Chapter 3: What insights does John share about the Taskmaster filming process?
Because there'll be people that do that in life and think they've not seen.
Yeah.
So keep that in. I don't like when people, their specialist subject is like Only Fools and Horses Series 6.
It should be all of Only Fools and Horses.
No, but do you know what?
Yeah.
I don't think it should ever be like popular culture.
Okay.
Yeah.

Chapter 4: How does humor play a role in the podcast discussion?
Which you need in every football team as well. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. You need a hairy left back. Yeah. So.
Yes.
My point being, you know, you look at that lineup. Amanda is your, well, he's done it all. Yeah. But a newer generation might be going, who's that? Yeah. Just checking out his CV. Also, the Amanda Nucci show is fantastic. It is. So then... And then you've got these two draw lines. I... I love Joel. Yes. Started out with Joel. Yes. First person I met doing comedy.
I think he's gutted that he sat... Next to a man. Like, Joel's handsome.
Yeah, yeah.
And he sat next to that guy. I've not looked at that man as much as I have watching this episode.
Yeah.
Because I haven't seen any of his films.

Chapter 5: What are some memorable moments from the latest Taskmaster episode?
You've got Amanda, Joel, Camille. Lovely men. Yes. Right, then to the right of Amanda. No, what about it?
Paige in the middle. Paige in the middle.
She's fantastic.
She's fantastic.
Do you know what I thought watching her?
Yeah.
It all makes sense. Yeah. The career.
Yeah.
I haven't followed it. I know she did Gavin and Stacey. I'm sure she's done a lot more. But it just makes sense, man. She comes into the room. You can just imagine casting people.

Chapter 6: What challenges do contestants face during Taskmaster tasks?
Yeah, it's either or. Yeah. I don't know. They said it's underwater. And I went, right, I'll go to that. And then I saw her watch the episode and she's booked a ticket.
Yeah.
So it's a bumpy ride.
Yeah.
It's like bumpy. And then you get there and, you know, it's underwater. Yeah. You know, I'm not going.
Yeah. I've just decided I'm not going. Okay, not going. Okay. But it's a good price task, I thought. Armando brings in a Braille menu to an Indian restaurant. I know you're a man who enjoys an Indian meal.
Yeah. I haven't gone blind. I pretended to be blind in a restaurant once. I had a very bad sunburn. A friend reminded me I did this when we were young. And I made a table of French kids laugh. Because I was pretending to be blind. Which isn't... PC. You were a kid? Yeah, I had such bad sunburn.
Yeah. Okay, but how are those things connected?
I think...

Chapter 7: How do the guests react to the absurdity of the tasks?
No. Books are huge. Okay. Well, they are. Well, I guess braille takes up more space than... Yeah, I know. ...than the font in other books, right? Yeah. Yeah, so it makes sense.
I know, but massive.
Yeah, how massive are we talking?
Oh.
Like, not possible.
Like... I don't know, something like... What's a big book at the moment? Like a famous book at the moment.
A famous book. What's everyone reading? You said big again.
No, no, I'm trying to think of like, what's 2026's book? There's always a book.
I'm quite behind on books.

Chapter 8: What future projects does John Kearns have in store?
Yeah, like that.
Anyway, we enjoyed Mr. Bump. Joel brought in a picture of his acne-ridden face when he was a teenager.
Yeah, handsome boy. You know, you're looking at it.
Still handsome. He didn't even look acne-ridden, you know.
Not really. When they zoomed in, That needs not to be laughed.
I you know people it can can affect people's confidence usually you Pretended to have acne once in you to make some French teenagers laugh.
I think I did I Don't think I pretended to have acne once it's a call back to the blind thing.
Yeah No, still handsome Yeah Got over that pretty quick
I'll tell you what, though. And this is where I think the show is obviously very good. I've known Joel as long as you have, probably. That is nearly, credibly, 20 years. And, you know, it's just one of these things where you're watching it and you're like, oh, that's the guy I know. He's obviously done so much TV. And the way he's describing it, I don't know.
