Yeah, that was John Turnus, the new CEO of Apple, unveiling the iPhone Duo, uh, which is their first foldable phone. Uh, I'm sure you've heard a lot of people giving out about the price, particularly the dedicated Apple fans who have been loyal to the brand for many years, uh, waiting with bated breath for this type of innovation from the company. And some of them are saying that they're just priced out of it. Uh starting in and around the two grand mark, right up to four and a bit grand, if you want to get the uh two terabytes of storage plus AppleCare, which I personally now I don't have the money to get one, but if I did have the money to get one, I'd be getting the Apple Care Plus because you want to have the protection uh and the peace of mind that if something happens to the screen you can get it repaired and it's not gonna cost you an arm.
So it's very expensive, and I would love to know your thoughts. I really want to hear from the dedicated lifelong Apple fans. What are your thoughts? Are you excited by the design and the innovation? The slightly smaller screen that's you know 5.6 inches when it's closed over. And then the, in my opinion, better aspect ratio of the larger screen when it's unfolded, content. Appears to look much better. Uh, you don't get those black bars that I was talking to Pat Kenny about uh when we were discussing. the Google and Samsung phones last week on the Pat Kenny show. So content will look better. The phone itself is interesting. I really want to know how comfortable it is in the hand when it's folded over and how intuitive it is as well.
Because as I said, you're getting the smaller screen than the standard smartphone when it's closed over. And then the bigger, slightly more awkward size when it's opened out. I've been reviewing the uh Samsung and Google folds for the last number of weeks, putting them side by side, using them individually and so on. And as cool as it is to unfold the phone and have that full screen experience. I haven't uh aside from when I'm forcing myself to do it as part of the review, I haven't found the full use case for Having that larger screen. Maybe I'm in the minority. The overarching feeling I took from watching the launch event the other day was that uh this is the first proper bit of real innovation we've seen from Apple in quite some time.
It's exciting for sure, but there is that disappointment that the price point is so high. As I said to Claire Byrne during the week, you know, I remember when I was a teenager. You're really, really, really wanting an iPod. Uh but obviously they were bananas expensive at the time and therefore you only saw the iPods in the hands of people who could obviously afford them. And i I think this um disparity between the tech haves and the tech have nots is going to grow, particularly as prices naturally increase over the next few while as well. Uh but with Apple putting a price tag like that on a foldable, oof. I don't know. I couldn't justify it, but as I say, I want to hear from you. Tech talk at newstalk dot com.
