This podcast is part of the Sports Social Podcast Network.
Good evening, good morning, good afternoon. Welcome to the podcast. Another episode. And this one's going out Monday morning for you. So on the way to work. Good morning. Happy Monday to you all. Hopefully you're still ecstatic of... our victory on Saturday against Hollywood Elite, which we will go into in more detail in a moment or two.
I am joined, I've got to be careful what I say here because I said you're the host for the most, the good-looking fella, and someone turned around and said he's an ugly twat on YouTube comments the other day. So it was like, okay, fine. But I am joined by the one and only, the co-founder and my partner in crime, my Guinness drinking buddy, Omar.
Hello, mate. Good evening, good afternoon, good morning, as you normally say. And yeah, thanks, mate. Yeah, how are you? You good?
Yeah, I'm good, mate. I'm good. I'm absolutely ecstatic, mate. So yeah, living the dream. Living the dream as always, mate. Looking forward to this one because, yeah, I don't think I've ever met a more entitled bunch of fans in my entire life. Um, and no doubt they will be in the comments going, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Chapter 2: What was the significance of Millwall's 2-0 victory over Wrexham?
So, um, Millwall fans, we need you in the comments on Spotify and, uh, and YouTube to, uh, see whether or not we're lying or, or we're not. So, um, if you agree with us, you disagree with us. So, yeah. So, um, yeah. How was your trip yesterday, fella?
It was all right, mate. Long old day. What, I left eight in the morning, got home at 9.30. You know, it's, uh, It's a slap, but it's all worth it for three points, mate. And I know you're saying people listen to us firstly Monday morning. Well, this is it. Hello. You get to hear our lovely voices and Mickey saying good morning to you. But look, mate, I think in general, Saturday was a good trip.
The journey home is always more exciting after a win. And yeah, it was just the ideal day out after getting three points. A tough, wrecking place to go, mate. And I'm sure we'll talk more in detail about it in a sec, but... Yeah, it's there we believe, let's believe.
Chapter 3: How did Millwall fans impact the atmosphere at the game?
We've been believing for a few weeks, haven't we, mate? But it's just, yeah, it feels like we're on the cusp of something, doesn't it, mate? And it's a long way out to continue.
100%. And as you're on, that means that it's time for one thing you want to know.
Language you don't usually hear on television. Millwall in London's Dockland. We'll be right back.
through a good time in this life we'll support the liars all our life this ain't no place for fantasy this is fucking millwall through and through located on our very own drunk pedestal wait let em all come let em out there say millwall till we die with that millwall podcast loud and exciting night right here
There we go, we're back and just want to say one thing before we go and just to set the mood. I have never in my entire life seen attendance written Watched by co-owner Ryan Reynolds. And I don't know where that's come from. There is a link there. I can see it.
But, you know, when you put stuff now into Google and then it brings up the AI stuff of everything there and then obviously it gives you all the page searches and whatnot down the page. But, yeah, it's... It's very weird, and if you put in Millwall versus Wrexham, or Wrexham versus Millwall, and just look at the amount of media, what's reporting on that game...
unbelievable to be fair mate and there's a lot of spin uh you can see that the uh the rex and pr machine has uh has obviously been hot on the phone to uh tell their shareholders that it's okay we only lost one game it's okay we're still going to get in the premier league we're still not going to ruin the fairy tale um but if the fairy tale doesn't work we've all done it
We did, mate. Do you know what? It's the first time we've been going to Wrexham. We were unfortunately too young to go back to 2001 when we won the Division 1 title. Obviously, King Cahill scored the header that meant we was guaranteed promotion. Then we went on to win last game of the season, 5-0 against Oldham or whoever it was at the time.
I think it's an experience going to Wrexham, I will say. It's an old school 90s town in the truest form. And in fact, I love that kind of feel to that sort of place. Got there about midday and obviously ventured into town, went to the pub that the away fans were at. Got the typical welcoming from the police.

Chapter 4: What led to Millwall's first goal against Wrexham?
It was like the typical sort of treatment that you kind of get used to being a middle supporter.
um and then you go to the ground and it's an old school ground obviously the money and stuff has come into it and you've got loads of like shirters there and stuff and how i pictured wrexham probably prior to the investment is obviously very different to where it is now um the town itself yeah very hospital nice people um it was a good trip it's just a it's like a throwback though going to that sort of place mate you know you go past the lights of shrewsbury go past all these little places and you're like here we go we're into wrexham now and like
Yeah, bizarre place. Good place. Enjoyed myself. And I agree with you on the entitlement, to be honest. But, you know, there's so many eyes on them. I think their Twitter account has got 40,000, 50,000 followers, mate. Obviously, the Disney effect is in full swing. And their narrative is obviously like, you know, you can't fault them for what they've done.
They're on the cusp of potentially doing back-to-back-to-back-to-back promotions. And that's credit where it's due. There's obviously, you know, I think I said it in previous shows, like there's loopholes and they're there to be exploited and it feels like they're doing it to a T.
We're going to get hammered on socials now because it's been happening the last few days where, you know, after the last show we did where we done the review and I questioned that, you know, that they're spending fortunes and this, that and the other and wages and all that and someone's picking up going, your wages are this, our wages are this, we're only 20, 30 grand out and you're like...
Mate, you're talking bollocks.
It's chalk and cheese, right? And what I will say is, I think I even drew a comparison to Formula One in the last episode, where it's there to be exploited. Go and do it. And I won't begrudge you for it. And look, they're used to winning. They're used to being on top. And I think, naturally, after yesterday's performance, like...
Do you see the quick people jump online about the statistics and say, oh, look, they had 16 shots. They had two, one heart and mouth, two heart, one and a half heart and mouth moments for me. One where the charge was clear off the line, we went 2-0 up.

Chapter 5: What tactical strategies did Millwall use to frustrate Wrexham?
and one where the players run through on goal. And then early doors, Kroepem has to make a save. I think you can't look at that game and go, oh, Millwall is rubbish. We defensively answered so many questions. They've got Kiefer Moore in there, who's someone I'd still would like to see play for us. He's a handful. He's a direct threat. They're a good side, but they're still a work in progress.
And you can't fault them for what they've achieved. And they're still banging form in the league. And for us to get a result yesterday there, and play the way we did, and grind it out, and defensively be so solid. I don't think you could ever come out of that game going, Mill, we were lucky to win. I think we actually got the typical way performance that they did on us early in the season.
The BBC say that. The BBC say, analysts, lions get the luck.
Listen, of course, we got fortunate with the goal in itself, the first goal.
Fantastic. Fantastic. I'm Goldie. Thanks mate.
Yeah. But like, I think, I just think the, the, the, the quick to kind of compare to like, say no, like, you know,
Mill rolled out their luck I don't think we rolled out our luck at all I think aside from one mistake that led to an opportunity for their player to throw on goal we limited a decent side who have been really good this year who have scored in every single home game prior to Saturday to very minimal chances and I think on another day if you were getting some more clinical side they probably do score at least one
But they didn't. And we scored two goals and we came away with three points. Thanks for it, Rex. Nice to see you. And we'll probably see you next season. But, you know, it's, you know, like, great trip, great day and three points.

Chapter 6: How did the players perform in the match against Wrexham?
Thanks very much.
We might not because we might go up and they might not. But hey-ho, you know. um yeah their xg was 1.53 rxg was 0.58 so you know realistically they were on paper i suppose there to um to beat us yeah 16 um 16 shots uh compared to our seven five on target compared compared to r1 um I would probably say, like you did there, I would probably say we just, we beat them by being Millwall.
We did it, you know, the Millwall way, the way that we always ground out these games. And I wouldn't be too surprised if they probably underestimated us, thought, right, we can do this, we can do that with them. And unfortunately, I think we got to see a masterclass by Alex Newell yesterday of how to manage a game. The players listened to what he wanted them to do.
And they've done that to the best of their ability and went from there. I mean, on possession side, it was very close. They had 54%. We had 45%. So not a lot in it, really. But we made it count. We did.
I think, mate, the thing is, though, I was watching the game and, like, if you're going to beat a Millwall side that is resolute and defends its six-yard box with the likes of Taylor and Cooper who head things and kick things and bite things... For breakfast. This is what they do. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. That's their game.
So if you've got Kiefer Moyer, who's obviously clearly talented at what he does, but you're putting him against two 6'4", 6'5", centre-halves, you're not going to beat us. The times they got most joy was when there was a mistake and then they're showing their pace through on goal. And also when they got the play out wide and then they had that opportunity in the first five minutes.
Aside from that, I wasn't worried. Defensively, we stood up to everything they threw at us because all their game plan was just trying to get the ball in the box and play off more. But then you're playing against two very good centre-halves that just do that for a living. That's their game. They're not get the ball down, play out from the back and try to do anything fancy with it.
They are literally like, we defend our goal line and that is what we do.

Chapter 7: What does this win mean for Millwall's position in the league?
Again, I'm not trying to bash Wrexham because I think they're a decent side and what they're doing is remarkable. But I do also think at the same time, like, there's better ways to beat a middle side, especially the side that we've got. And I don't think they had answers to that, to be honest. But, yeah, look, we went there with a game plan.
First half, not great for both sides, to be totally honest. Negli had a half chance where it was kind of crossing from wide area on the right-hand side. He makes a night run across the box and, you know, heads it over the goal. Aside from that and the one chance early doors, I don't recall much.
The second half, mate, once you make it a 45-minute game and you've got players to come on that can make a difference, Coburn, Watson, obviously Bannon kind of grew into the game in the second half and a couple of opportunities to play players through. Then you then bring the likes of Masu Saka on as well. It shows the depth we've got and also the individual quality.
I get on his back for music when I'm watching him play at the minute because I think he's too greedy at times. And sometimes I think you can see he's got a chip on his shoulder. But fuck me, when he gets the ball and has that moment of quality, you've just got to stand there and admire it.
Because obviously the build-up to the first goal, the through ball to Kovac for the second goal, even though I think he meant to play it to Dinor. the game plan was clearly was to try and keep it tight and then rely on our players to produce the quality. And they did, mate. So I'm buzzing. Very excited. Yeah, it's good.
Good performance, mate. No, I see. I think you're right. So yeah, I think it was a cracking performance because I think everybody just performed how they needed to perform. I'm a little bit... Maybe I was wrong. I thought I looked at the table yesterday, by the way, and I thought Hull were on 53 points. And us winning would have put us on 53 as well.
But we would have just been, obviously, goal difference.

Chapter 8: How did player substitutions affect the game's outcome?
But they got beat yesterday, didn't they? Yeah, they lost 3-2 to Bristol City, I think. Yeah, that's what I thought. So I don't know how they got...
they got a point there but yeah I could have sworn yesterday when I looked at it yesterday morning they were on 53 but maybe I'm wrong they got a result this week they had a rearranged game against Watford that was called off remember that 25 minutes before the game started like about a month ago so they had a rearranged game and I think they got a point but yeah look mate I think
you know we're we're sitting fifth place in the league six points clear of seventh and six points off top of the league it's um it's nosebleed territory and you know what it just felt like like going to like it reminded me of when we was in league one like and i'm getting this i mean it's in a very credit creditful way by the way i i think going to an old school town where there's like you know you can see like the lights are going to like old and very washed out
scum for it's like it's a town it's like there's like there's no real investment in the area aside from the football ground right and you go there and it's like it's an old school place it reminds me a bit like bermondsey before the money's come into it the last 10 years all the renewal developments and stuff right it's like our home right i'm at it and you go there it's like
Then you get an old school game of football like that, where it's like both sides have, you know, got their strengths, trying to play to their best. And then the atmosphere comes into it. And then you've got the England versus Wales sort of chance back and forth. And it was just, it was a good away day.
And obviously seeing the clips afterwards, I was jealous of the people that were stuck in crew and they're in the pub and having a good time. I definitely wish I was one of them and not driving down the motorway. But yeah, like, you know.
Yeah, that was, that was interesting. There was what, there was West Ham. I think there was West Ham, Spurs.
um someone else and also i think portsmouth at one point as well we're all at crew station so um yeah but again football's changed i think if that was in the 80s 90s i think that would have been someone's absolute carnage headache but um nowadays i think it it probably isn't anywhere near as bad as what it was um but listen the match i think you know I think, yep, I agree with you.
I think Kiefer Moore is a handful. Yep, you know, would he have been good to play for us at some point? Maybe. But it didn't work out. We tried fucking by all accounts many a times and it's never worked out. I just... I think the goal, what they scored for us, Max, is it Cleworth? Who, you know, chested in a beautiful cross from Femi.
