Why do doctors make great short‑term rental hosts?

Bart Sobies 0:12
Well hello everybody and welcome back to another incredible episode of the accommodation show. This week I'm joined by someone who's not only a friend. But an absolute legend in The social media world, in the short term rental world, in the doctoring world, we've got Dr. Rachel Gainsborough on the show. How are you going?
Dr Rachel Gainsborough 0:34
Hi Bart. Thank you so much for having me. It has been too long, my friend. I'm so grateful to be here with you again.
Bart Sobies 0:41
It really has. Uh I can't remember when we recorded last, but it would have been during COVID times, I think. Um before that. And it's been incredible to watch your journey and your growth. I was just checking out your your webpage with things places you've appeared and it's incredible. Like I'm looking at uh uh the list, you've got uh Netflix, you've got um uh what was it? Uh the LA Times, we've got Boog on there. Uh we've got the Bigger Podcast podcast, which is fantastic. Of course, Yahoo Newsweek and so on and so forth. Which is great. Because that really shows obviously people value your opinion and and and what you do but Um What I love about you is you you've you're very genuine and you've got a a great message to to share with everyone.
Bart Sobies 1:28
Um, so like congrats on on all the success. How have things been going?
Dr Rachel Gainsborough 1:33
Oh, thank you, Bart. No, it's been going well. Uh uh, we were just chatting in the green room about, you know, the stick toitiveness, right? In this industry, it'll swallow you up. Uh however, if you're able to just stick to it, you know, you uh deal with the choppy waters, the ups and downs of it, yeah, you'll end up Where you wanna be. So I love this community. I love this industry. It's changed my life. It's allowed me to step away from uh burnout in healthcare. And that's my message. I love sharing the same message with those in our community as well.
Bart Sobies 2:08
So with the healthcare part, are you I I I believe that you were still practicing and you're still doing some work uh maybe five years ago. Yeah,
Dr Rachel Gainsborough 2:17
I was. I was. Yeah. So back in twenty-three, um, yeah, I retired from that completely. Uh, but my heart still my heart still lives there because I just know the impact and how important it is for us to to solve the healthcare uh problems that we have. We know how important it is to take care of our health, take care of one another. So um I'm so passionate about those who are in healthcare who are burnt out because I believe Leave. Just if getting into this industry, that healthcare and patient care, it correlates so well. Like you wouldn't believe the overlap. Uh the doctor, I remember Dr. Uh Doctor Data in our community, she didn't think she could do it part. She didn't think she do it, she could do it with her first property.
Dr Rachel Gainsborough 2:59
Next thing you know, she's the one wondering. I wonder if the guests saw the new popcorn machine we installed. So she she loved it. And turns out there's a big correlation between guest care and patient care. And that's why I think it's it's an important strategy for the doctors and our community who are burnt out. Just one or two properties. We we're not talking about becoming a big time property manager with 700 doors or anything like that. One or two properties uh positioned strategically, uh optimized and automated strategically using AI tools could change your whole life.
Bart Sobies 3:35
But isn't isn't that fascinating? It's uh one of the things that I've been talking about since uh I started working in this particular field. And it's the same with restaurants. So we used to build websites for restaurants, but ultimately it's all about the the customer experience. It's also the people that did very well in their restaurants, they understood hospitality. How does she like um uh almost like welcome someone with an open heart? You know, you go to these restaurants and you might be incredibly busy, but the hosts are incredible because they make you feel really welcome in their environment in their space. And that's the same with accommodation. If you're hosting someone, um sure we can create these environments that are you know that there's no uh person there at all.
