What is BVRMA and why was it created?

Bart Sobies 0:12
Well, hello everybody and welcome back to another incredible episode of the accommodation show. I say incredible because I have two guests that you're gonna enjoy meeting. We have the lovely Gung and the lovely Caroline on the call, who are part of BVRMA, which is Bali Villa Rental Management Association, I believe. Um And they're running a conference in Bali, um, which we're gonna talk about today. Folks, welcome to the show.
Caroline Sandriani 0:43
Hello.
Bart Sobies 0:45
Thank you, Mark. Really excited about this episode because uh something that we try to do at the accommodation show is share, com collaborate, uh build community, uh meet new people. And what's interesting, being an accommodation professional or someone that's in hospitality, we're looking after guests and we kind of serve the same function, and that's looking after guests, but we do we've got Different ways of doing it, different markets. Um, and also there's different stages of our businesses depending on uh the maturity of our businesses. So I'm really excited to talk to both of you, uh particularly around uh the conference, which is Bali Villa Connect. Um around about a thousand people coming into one room to talk about uh villa management and short-term rentals.
Bart Sobies 1:34
Um, but what I might do is rather me talk, how about each of you introduce yourselves um and let us know um kind of what you do within your business, what you do at B V R M A, um, and then we'll go from there.
Caroline Sandriani 1:48
Sure.
Bart Sobies 1:50
This is the community.
Caroline Sandriani 1:51
Yes, I'll start first. My name is Caroline Sandriani. I was um actually lived in Australia for um thirteen years. So Australia is my home and also Bali, hundred and one percent Bali. And um I'm I'm part of the PPRMA in the legal and compliance divisions, basically looking after all the administrative part of the village. especially villa management and rentals. Um assuring all the guests, assuring ho all the holiday makers have a safe and um Sound holiday in Bali, um staying in the legit villas and everything is certified. Um that's that's part of my job at B VRMA, uh looking after all the legal aspects and um the compliance aspects.
Bart Sobies 2:40
Amazing. Such an important role to have. And I I find that it's kind of interesting because the compliance side isn't the most uh glamorous side or the most exciting side. Um, but the one good thing that I've learned through my journey with with uh short-term rentals, particularly, is because such is it's such a nascent market. It's kind of new but not new, especially in in Bali, right? Like villas have been around for for forever. But the industry has matured a lot. And one thing that's good about compliance is that you can protect your guests and you can build a much stronger industry and much stronger business if you have the rules and the regulations that are adjusted uh accordingly. But we'll get into that in a second.
Bart Sobies 3:24
Uh Mr. Agung, tell everybody about your your where you're from and what what you do with B V RMA. Thank
Agung Juliarta 3:31
you, Mr. Bird. Uh I'm happy to introduce myself. My name is Agung Julierta. Uh in D VRMA, uh I'm uh assigned as a five chairman. Uh and yes, you know, like uh I helping the chairman, I'm helping the direction, I'm also like making the blueprints how this uh organization will be. And uh talking about myself, um I'm in a fila industry for more than 16 years, especially in fila rental, because you know Bali now mostly people talking about the fila holiday. So yeah In Puri Asia we are uh select only the premium uh fillers to our guests.

How do Caroline and Agung describe their roles within BVRMA?

Agung Juliarta 4:18
Yes. Uh we're really strict with the standard uh and also with the genuine hospitality over in Puri Asia. Yeah, amazing.
Bart Sobies 4:28
How many people do we have in terms of uh B V R M A? What's uh how many people are on the committee?
Agung Juliarta 4:35
In committee, uh we have around like eight, eight till ten people, if I'm not wrong. Yeah, there are uh uh the chairman, the vice chairman, uh secretary, uh we have the treasurer, uh also the legals and also other uh head of division, like film management division, rental agency division, we also have the government relations, something like that. Yeah, for the the country.
