Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and your vision very, very shortly. And the inspirational skipper, the Jewel North Smith Medallist, the Australian football hall. Famer is Luke Hodge. Okay. Hodgey, we'll get your thoughts very, very shortly. Carrie, but tonight we start at the Bombers as their football department starts to take shape under the new coach Mark McVeigh.
What can you tell us?
Or does it? There's a lot of places to fill. So Mark McVeigh has moved to Melbourne this week, I'm told. He moved into the club officially on Monday and he is looking for several assistant coaches, two footy bosses, a senior development coach. He he basically at the moment has Brent Stanton. And we hear that he's approaching Amon Buchanan. Now I'm told the plan of Tim Roberts and Mark McVeigh and Craig Vozo, who is still consulting to the club and may or may not take up one of the senior footy roles, and Andrew Welsh is they are only interested in coaches pretty much who come from top four clubs. Right. And and so th they want they they just want coaches and assistant coaches in development. coaches who have worked with the best.
Everyone they're talking to and targeting, we just can't really know exactly who they are now, although we do know Buchanan. I can also tell you that Dean Solomon has been offered a senior role back at the club and is considering his options and will make a call over the coming days. It will not be because he's upset he didn't get the senior job. It's because he's considering whether he wants to move back to northern New South Wales with his family. What I can also tell you is that James Heard we'll meet with the club towards the end of this week, or at least that is the plan from the Essendon Brains Trust. Um f let's have a listen first of all to what James Heard said about when he was going for the Essendon job back in July, Kane.
good to good to finally get have some contact from the club and have a chat about what um the next steps are in this process that we're all looking forward to.
And is that to be Waterboy, Physio because um there's a lot of people speaking on your behalf. Um was it for other roles?
No it was for one role. Uh the the job interviews for one role and that was what uh was pretty clear.
And James has gone on to say many times since then that he is not interested in any other role. I I I think that um Essendon have uh gone back to James. We know that when we had Andrew Welsh on the show a few weeks ago, Luke and Dale, that he had not taken James had not taken his call. I'm told they now have spoken. Mark McVeigh we know is close with James Heard. They also have spoken, and that there will be a meeting towards the end of this week to talk to James Heard about a role at the club. I don't think it is the only club. who is talking to James Heard, I gather at least one other club is also interested in talking to him.
Are you thinking it's more of a a coaching, assistant coach or could be an ambassador? Because I think Essendon people want to see James Heard back at the football club in any area that they can get him there.
Very, very early days, Luke. Baby steps at this point. Surely not an ambassador Hodge. But no, no, but what
I'm saying, what I'm saying, as a as football, the Essendam football supporters out there, they just want to see James Heard aligned to the Essenti football club.
