Chapter 1: What are Jordan Henderson's early memories of Andy Robertson?

Hetuovi.com. Hey, what's up again? You're driving our van on a Saturday morning. Well, I can't always drive our home company's van. But why are you always in our yard? Look, I was also coming in to hang those flower benches, so here at the same time this is going. What do you mean? No, no, no, look, no worries, because in fact. In fact, there are profitable tools for business.
The question was then about your or your friend's project.
It is John Givens. We're at Brentford. Really pleased to be invited down to the training ground. Huge thanks to all the staff here who've been really helpful and huge thanks to our first of a series of interviews on who I think Liverpool's greatest ever left-back. We'll see if he agrees. Jordan Henderson. Jordan, thanks so much for your time today. No problem.
If we could just start with some of your early memories of Andy.
At the beginning, I think it was probably the most difficult part of when he came to Liverpool. Throughout his time there, I think the beginning was probably the hardest. But... That's probably the most important bit because he's then gone to go on and do what he's done.
Probably he needed that bit at the beginning and I can remember he was not, not only was he not playing, but probably some games he was in the stand. which is not easy as a player. It's very difficult to take, especially when you come to a new club, you might not feel part of the team. So that can be hard, especially when you're new. But with Robbo, I always felt like
It would be hard for him, I could see in his face when he was training and stuff, I could see it was difficult like it would be for any player, but then I could also see the stuff that he'd be doing after training when he was out on the grass on his own and he was doing sort of 1v1 defending with the coaches or he was working on his crossing and his timing on his own.

Chapter 2: How did Andy Robertson adjust to life at Liverpool?
I think people don't see as much of that, but he has got that side to him as well, which obviously is really important.
One of our first memories of Robbo was actually a game he didn't play. I watched it back last night. It was the 4-3 against Manchester City and he's charging about the pitch on a one-man sort of pressing machine. As fans, we loved that, but I wondered, as his captain, are you a bit like, what on earth is he doing?
Or are you cheering him on? With Jürgen, that's what we're all about. We loved that. He was... he was everywhere causing chaos and that's like a perfect example of I think he pressed from left back, left wing, keeper, there left back wasn't it, he sort of went on, I can remember it but that was the way we played with that team really, it was all full energy, just go, go, go, go and
Yeah, it was like Jürgen said, like heavy metal football, really. And for people like Rob War, for myself, for other lads, it was perfect in that sense.
How was he as a captain?
Was he someone you had to...? We had a really good friendship, we still do. I still speak to Robbo quite a bit. When you're close to someone, you have a great relationship, someone who helped me a lot as well. As a captain of Liverpool, I always really looked at the senior players and other players around as that really helped me as well. Robbo was a huge, huge impact on that.
in a very different way, but I was very close to him. He would help us with a lot of stuff and I'm sure as time's gone on, that side of him has probably got more and more and he's probably one of the leaders along with Virg and Ali and Mo and people like that now. He is very much one of the leaders within the group and he was like that even when I was captain at the club.
He was a brilliant teammate and helped me a lot as well in moments where I might have needed picking up or whatever or if I was feeling a bit down or whatever, Robbo was always one that could sense it and could give me good energy to feel better and make sure that I was in a good place mentally.
How that team played was, well, I mean, so exciting to watch, but the full-backs both bombing on really, really, really attacking, and as midfielders, I guess you had to adjust further.

Chapter 3: What challenges did Andy Robertson face as a new player?
He's as honest as his days long, really. He'd keep working and he'd be fighting and he'd defend and he's up, he's back, he's down. So he was an all-in sort of player and demanded that from everybody else as well. So, yeah, I totally agree with what you're seeing in terms of he's got to be up there with one of the greatest full-backs ever for Liverpool, for sure.
When... You know, in those games where we're attacking, he's flying forward, but you fancied as well in the games where he did have to defend, he really relished that, the one-on-one battles, and he came up against some fantastic wingers, but, you know, he always seemed to relish those. Did you sense that as well?
Yeah, I always felt as though Robbo would sort of rise to the occasion in big games and things like that against top players, really good wingers. It's not easy in the Premier League with the amount of good wingers there is, you know, how fast they are, how skillful they are, so... He came up with some big challenges, but I always felt with Robbo, he loved the challenge.
He loved the big challenge. He loved playing against top players and challenging himself. And that's when I go back to that sort of beginning when it wasn't quite smooth for him and he had to work on things. I can remember Jurgen and staff working a lot on maybe like the 1v1 stuff defensively. I think that was one of the areas where
Jurgen needed probably from the beginning to work on to get the trust because going forward Robbo was like you see he was flying up he was crossing it was I think he'll probably tell you better than me but if I can remember rightly it was that 1v1 defending
that he needed to work on and in that period he probably got to do that more when he wasn't playing, which then when he came in would have helped him massively. And then when you gain confidence and you get games under your belt and continue, like you see when he's come up against some really, really top-class wingers and done really well against them.
I want to jump a little bit on to the Champions League final. What's interesting is he gets injured in the Barcelona game and he has to go off at half-time. I'm just wondering if there was any chance that he would have missed that final or do you think he would have strapped his leg together to play? Because it must have been a nervy one for him.
Yeah, I don't think he was injured in that game. I think he was just scared of coming out the second half because of Messi. After he'd given a bit, he didn't. He was thinking, are you going back out there and marking it? After that, I think. I can't even remember what he did in that game, actually, but he did pick up something in the first half, you're right.
And I think that's when Gini come on, wasn't it? And obviously, that's a different story, but... It wasn't a serious injury, I think, Robbo. I mean, again, I can't really remember what it was. But, yeah, if it was, no matter what it was, I think to play in the Champions League final, he would have done absolutely everything to just have been involved in that.

Chapter 4: How did Jordan Henderson support Andy Robertson during tough times?
We had a lot of good moments together. Obviously, when you're winning trophies, big trophies that you've always dreamt of and the other lads have dreamt of since you were kids. When you're doing that, when I look back now, of course it was my dream when I was a kid to maybe win the Premier League or the Champions League.
But to win it with people like Robbo made it even better than what I thought it would be like when I was a kid, if that makes sense, do you know what I mean? It was like, not only were we winning, we were winning with this special group where everybody was just, it was the everything, do you know what I mean?
And there'd been through so, there were so many stories that we'd been through so much as individuals, as a team, to get to this point, to then start winning trophies, I just felt like, It's hard to explain, but of course it was amazing. It's easy to say it was amazing when we're winning Premier League and we're winning Champions League or whatever it may be.
But for me, looking back, it was who that was with.
was the most special thing and Robbo for me was one of them people that really shared special moments when we were winning but also we've had great moments with my family away from football whether it's in Portugal or wherever with the kids and just totally different environment and you sort of can switch off a little bit and you can have a bit of a laugh and speak about different things
I quite like their moments as well. Robbo's somebody who I've had a lot of good moments with in football and out of football. Hopefully we can have many more in the future as well.
