Mine Uran has been looking for the ultimate substitute to animal protein for almost 20 years. She worked as a food engineer for companies like Unilever and DuPont, and then as the Head of Protein at Nestlé. Her original focus as a worldwide recognized protein expert was on plant proteins such as soy and pea proteins. When she discovered that microalgae offered a sustainable source of protein, she switched her focus, but found it hard to get support from Corporate. Believing that businesses were not doing enough to address sustainability and climate change, she decided to use her time and energy to start her own business instead. Mine quit her job and co-founded Alver with Majbritt Byskov-Bridges, to turn to the world's oldest living creatures: microalgae, into a source of sustainable nutrition. Now her aim is to create healthy and sustainable food for today's and tomorrow's societies, promoting more sustainable eating habits and using her company's products to contribute to future food security.
