What if the reason people aren't choosing you isn't because you need more expertise, but because the expertise you already have has become harder to explain? There's a strange paradox that can happen as you become more experienced. You see more nuance, more possibilities and more of the factors that influence whether something will work. Your answer is increasingly, "It depends." Meanwhile, someone offering a much simpler solution, with less experience and expertise than you, may be easier for a potential client to understand – and therefore easier to choose. The answer isn't to dumb down your expertise. It's to make its value easier for the right people to recognise.
