Welcome to the Athletic Football Show brought to you by the U.S. Bank Smartly Visa Signature Card. I'm Robert Mays. Week three in the NFL was one heck of a ride, really from start to finish. Both windows were incredible, tons of just amazing, exciting games. We hit all of them. Started with the Sunday night game, hit Ravens Cowboys, and then tried to dig into everything else we possibly could from week three. An amazing week in the NFL. Let's get to Do it with me, Dave, and Eric right now. What a game, what a day.
That's what you look forward to for nine months while we wait for this whole thing to get going. I mean, the only thing missing was like an insane London game in the early, early window. And we'll get that in a few weeks to really hammer home the like eighteen hours of pure football. Uh my goodness.
I'm not even sure my nervous system could have taken that if we had won the game this morning based on everything that we just saw. We'll dig into all the action from today, but we were going to start with a phenomenal Sunday night football game. I mean, like obviously all the way down to the end. A really impressive performance by the Broncos in the second half, considering what their offense looked like in half number one. I felt like the Rams were in total control of that game. And then over the course of the second half, you just start to feel it leaking out. Graham's settling for a couple field goals because of penalties, ultimately came back to bite them. And then they leave the door open and a couple of special teams mishaps and the Broncos defense really locks in.
And that's enough for the Broncos to kind of claw their way all the way back in this game.
Would you say a couple special teams, Ms. Happy? That's right. Not the LA Ray. Well, you get
a long field goal on the you get a long punt return on the first drive of the second half where they're gonna not score a touchdown. And then what should have been a fantastic uh punt down inside the 10 turns into uh is followed up by a penalty, and then they have to re-kick it and then the Broncos get the ball at midfield again. And so two drives essentially end in the Broncos getting the ball at midfield in the second half. They turn both those drives into touchdowns and suddenly t touchdowns and suddenly the game is tied.
This is two weeks in a row where the Broncos have looked dead in the water going into halftime of a game that they wound up winning against a team that we think really highly of. I mean, I don't think this does a lot to sway my opinion of the Rams. Denver is an incredibly tough place to play. The Broncos turned it on in the second half, but still like a team that I think really highly of. And the way the Broncos were able to, you know what I think is impressive? I don't even know if you could say they clawed their way back into it because the aggressiveness with which they went after those two point conversions, and you see why people push for that in these sorts of like in-game situations when you're playing the math out.
I mean, they were back even before the third quarter was even over. I thought that was tremendously impressive. The execution to steal those points, not just once, but twice. in order to just erase that deficit in one quarter basically. And then when the fourth quarter starts, you're even. And obviously we can get into some of how that happened, but we're able to outlast the Rams and just I mean, uh I'm still processing the finish, to be honest with you.
I mean, I think it happened it go ahead, Derek.
Yeah, I was gonna say, like, I I thought the way that Denver kind of handled that game in terms of going for the two points the way that they did in multiple situations, like I just thought that that was really impressive. That is like a clear, you know the kind of team you're playing. And obviously the Rams in the second half had some mishaps and stuff like that. But they also had the drive where in what, four plays, Matthew Stafford goes down and scores, and you know that they can do that.
