The author of the piece, Dr. Jaime Hoerricks, initially believed the DSM diagnostic criteria would be the primary barrier to accessing services. However, they now fear a more extreme scenario where the government actively works to prevent autistic people from existing. This shift involves re-allocating funding towards “cures” rather than support. Dr. Hoerricks argues that eugenicist ideologies are driving policy changes. A key worry is that this agenda will be disguised as helpful interventions.
