What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Chris Harris 0:09
A chucklesome episode 96 of the Chris Harris and Friends podcast. Well, it's a car podcast. It's not just a podcast. It's the car podcast. It's got a different ask in it. And it's this week. It's celebrating Damon Hill's 1996 victory in that Williams. Murray getting choked up. Oh, I mean, just history. And it's good to see Damon getting lauded at Goodwood. I have to say, I saw the pictures of a very busy, very hot good. But the only thing I saw of it that I felt jealous of not seeing was Damon. The rest of it, frankly, you can keep in the sun and the sweat. I was down near Bergerac enjoying wonderful cognacs and armagnacs. I was quite happy down there. So let's first of all move to our agenda. Manish, move your camera down now so you can show what we're wearing.
Chris Harris 0:59
Look at that. We're both wearing... The 996 T-shirt. Look at that. Fan-dabby-dozy. For those of you that don't have a camera, we've just shown off F-bleep-bleep-X-K-burner.

What do the hosts share about Goodwood and Festival of Speed highlights?

Chris Harris 1:13
It's probably Bitcoin. Buy a 996 T-shirt. Things you've done in cars this week, good or new? Good news. It has to be good news, I know. So let's start with Chris Cooper, who for some reason is calling himself Peter Shilton on our internal messaging services. I don't know why.
Chris Cooper 1:32
We were discussing earlier the relative height difference between Diego Maradona and Peter Shilton, the famous hand of God, or as... a famous beer manufacturer has transposed it this week, Hand of Dog. And Maradona is five foot five inches tall. And I looked on Wikipedia earlier and it sort of said he's got two positions. And I rather archly said, oh, midfielder and cheat. Are those his two positions? Anyway, God rest his soul.
Chris Harris 2:00
How tall is Peter Chilton? Six foot. So actually the height difference between you and I is greater.
Chris Cooper 2:07
Yes, it is.
Chris Harris 2:08
When we used to race a car together, if I got in it and Chris had been driving it, it was like getting in my dad's car when I was little because I couldn't reach the pedals. Yeah.
Chris Cooper 2:18
So this week, I'm going to start by... I had a lovely week of really, really enjoyable, joyous thing in a car, but I'm going to preface it and set it up by saying... Has any of us ever seen a Land Rover Defender without a tow bar? Is it illegal to have a Land Rover Defender and not have a tow bar on it?
Chris Harris 2:44
I'm sure all those urban ones don't have anything.
Chris Cooper 2:47
I suppose they do. But the point being, I was down in Cornwall the weekend on a sort of slightly long weekend. Beautiful. And I had to tow a little dinghy. And I loved it. I loved towing. There's something so satisfying because you're doing something, it's work. You're taking something useful from one place to another so it can be even more useful.
Chris Harris 3:16
No, what you're doing is you're applying the Swiss Army knife attitude to life, which is when you bought that Swiss Army knife that was unnecessarily thick, the one that was like massively thick. Yeah. You'd go and find... You'd get the most obscure tool and find the thing that you could do stuff to with that tool.
Chris Cooper 3:34
Highly stolen my thunder, because that was exactly what I was going to say.
Chris Harris 3:38
Sorry, we'll cut this out.
Chris Cooper 3:40
No, no, it's great. That's exactly right. It's the joy because I spent the rest of the weekend asking people... Do you want me to tow anything? That dinghy of yours, is that the top of the village? Hey, I could tow that for you. I've got a light board. Not sure we need a light board. It's quite a small dinghy. Don't tow anyone. But I've got all the pins on the little light socket. You know that thing, you know, that sort of the really, there's a spring-loaded cap you have to lift up Yeah. It probably used to be called the female end of the arrangement in the Haynes manual. Yeah. Not sure we can call it that anymore. Yes.

What funny anecdotes and ‘things you’ve done in cars this week’ kick off the episode?

Chris Cooper 4:18
Okay. For those watching in black and white, you can work out the little gesture that Mr. Harris had just made. So what the Haynes manual would have said is the female end of the arrangement, plugging the socket for the light board. When I was growing up and we went caravanning holidays, my brother and I had the job of hooking and unhooking the light socket thing from the caravan.
