I am going on Advil and caffeine. Those of you that are in the sort of, I guess, the eastern half of the country slash southeastern half, right? Chapter 7: What parallels are drawn between Bloody Sunday and current events?
It's going to be more than Minneapolis that I'm focused on. I think this has been a month that I'm calling it the great unraveling. And I'm going to get to that in a minute because we're we've I know we've had many moments similar to this in the Trump era.
But when you really take the totality of the last 30 days and everything that has happened internationally, domestically, we are at a tipping point. And I don't think, as many of you know, I'm no alarmist. In fact, I'm always looking to not sound an alarm, to look for ways to not alarm. issue a sky is falling type proclamation.
There are many people that have been preaching sky is falling for years now. Maybe some of them are saying, I told you so, but I still don't believe in when you pull the fire alarm, you've got to be very, very proverbial.
Chapter 8: What questions are raised in the 'Ask Chuck' segment?
That is very, very judicious. But we're at a moment. And I think anybody who doesn't see this doesn't want to see this. That's that's about the only way I can put it. So we'll get to that. My podcast time machine. It is Monday. So, you know, I'm going to go into the time machine. I'm just going to give you two words. Bloody Sunday. That's all I'm going to give you because.
It may invoke a few images in your head, and that's exactly what I hope it does. We will get to that, and of course, I will take some questions. But we're going to begin with what I want to do is take a step back. This has been a horrendous month in the history of the republic. Obviously, we've had worse months. The country that has had its own civil war has had worse months.
More people have died. I'm not equating that this month is worse in history, but this is the single worst month. And it's funny about what January seems to bring. We thought January 2021 was the low point. Is it possible that January 2026 is a brand new low point than even what we dealt with in and around January 6th? Historians like to say that history moves in decades where nothing happens.
And then there are weeks where decades happen. And in some ways, January 2026 hasn't just been a month. It's been a rupture. We began this year with one of the most audacious uses of American hard power in memory, the extraction of Nicolas Maduro from Venezuela, presented as a bold reclaiming of U.S. influence in the Western Hemisphere.
But if that was a sledgehammer meant to uphold order, what we're watching now is the collapse of consent that order once rested on. The illusion of stability, legal, geopolitical, scientific, is unraveling before our eyes. And all of it is happening in real time. This is not a time to avert your eyes. We're going to start in Minneapolis this month.
Because federal agents being deployed as part of a massive immigration enforcement surge have now been involved in two fatal shootings in less than three weeks. On January 24th, Border Patrol agents shot and killed Alex Preddy. 37-year-old ICU nurse and a lawful gun owner during an immigration operation in South Minneapolis.
Federal officials initially said Preti was armed and approached agents aggressively. Claims that are now challenged by multiple videos showing him holding a phone and trying to help another protester before being tackled, attacked with pepper spray, beaten and then shot 10 times after he had been subdued, 10 times after he had been subdued. This was an assassination.
There's no other way to put it. This was intentional, may not have been premeditated, but these were trigger happy officers. They assassinated an American citizen. There's no other way to look at it. And they felt comfortable doing it because nothing happened to any ICE agent after the killing of Renee Good under questionable circumstances.
And that decision by the federal government to not uphold the law, to not instigate an investigation, Sent two messages. I'm going to paraphrase my friend Robert George, longtime conservative columnist and thinker. I first got to know him when he was a columnist at The New York Post.
