Hi everyone, welcome back to Women Diagnosis Series. I'm Kaylin. And I'm Charmin. We're back. And usually we talk a lot about, you know, medicine stuff from like clinical unknowns to a topic. But today's discussion episode is gonna be about money. Huh. I bet you didn't see that one coming, unless you see the title of this episode. Yeah, I mean I think this all started when as third year residents we have to give a capstone talk and people did it from about a wide range of things. It was during the pandemic in twenty twenty. So, you know, one of my friends did it about sourdough bread making And then I decided to do mine on personal finance for a physician because it was a chance for me to kind of solidify some information and also to just tell my co-residents about it.
So I've given some version of this talk a few times. And I will say it was a slide deck. So there were visuals and we're adapting it for audio today. So hopefully, you know, we are clear enough, but we'll also include some visuals and some additional resources in the show notes for those of us who are more visual learners. And yeah, and I think this idea, you know, personal finance matters for everyone, with or without a paycheck, not just doctors, uh anyone in training or or anyone who lives in this world, I guess. And so it can feel very intimidating and awkward, but just like we said with networking, it's happening whether you acknowledge it or not. So let's just get proactive about money. Totally.
Money is important. Is money everything? No. And one of the reasons why I love this talk and one of the reasons we really wanted this to be as part of the WDX series is because we didn't get these talks when we were in training. And I I definitely felt behind after training. And I didn't grow up here. I didn't understand the financial structure. So I was like, oh, I have a lot of catching up to do. There's so many terms that K would explain that I didn't know. And I think it's getting better, but it's part of our training that is not as emphasized. Um, medicine is busy, but this is important to your overall health and overall future. Um, but before we go any further, uh let's just do the disclaimer very properly.
Because this in this episode it really matters. Um, everything in this episode is for general education purposes only. It is not individualized financial, tax, legal, or investment advice, and neither of us is acting as your financial advisor, tax preparer, or attorney. We're going to talk about US tax advantage accounts and US tax rules. Specifically, if you're listening from outside the US, the account types we name. Won't apply to you directly, though the underlying principle about saving and compounding generally will. Contribution limits, tax brackets, and income thresholds change almost every year. So treat at any specific number we say allowed today as illustrated, if not as current fact for the time that you're listening.
Before making any financial decision, please talk to a qualified licensed professional. Ideally, if you do a share. financial planner who knows your full personal situation.
