She opens up about the heartbreak of eight miscarriages, losing her mum at the same time, and the toll it took on her mentally, physically, and emotionally. She also speaks about the strain it put on her relationship with her husband, Bernard, and how they tried to hold everything together. There were moments she felt she couldn't go on, but she kept fighting.

Chapter 2: What personal struggles does Mags Harty share in her journey?

67 - 90.893 Brenda Dennehy

I got you saved on my phone as Mags Swimming. And what have you got me saved as? My friend and nutter. Thanks a lot. I wouldn't mind if it was Mad Brenda or Brenda Nutter. So me and Mags know each other from you taught me swimming lessons. You're a friend of my friend Deirdre. Hello, Deirdre Brown. And I was going to do half an Ironman.

Chapter 3: How did Mags cope with the emotional toll of multiple miscarriages?

91.674 - 99.866 Brenda Dennehy

That's a triathlon. Yeah. And I was like, this is before. Oh, thanks, Mags. This is before. Did I ever tell you the marathon was not training? Yes.

Chapter 4: What impact did Mags' experiences have on her relationship with her husband?

99.926 - 114.497 Brenda Dennehy

Yeah, I think I've told that several times. That's like my party trick. But I hired you to teach me how to swim because you're a fantastic swimmer in the Glen Eagle in Killarney. And I was a grand old swimmer, was I?

Chapter 5: What was Mags' turning point in her journey to motherhood?

114.477 - 118.002 Mags Harty

No, you were really good. Like, you really picked up. No, you really did.

Chapter 6: How did Mags find hope after her losses?

118.042 - 120.044 Mags Harty

Like, you really took to what I said.

0

120.465 - 139.37 Brenda Dennehy

I enjoyed it. And then I moved to London. And do you know what happened then? I think I'm just a bit too fearful of the sea and the water. I just have this big fear of it. And I don't know what I'll ever be able to do. And I'm very into, I will always push someone to be able to do anything they want to do. But the sea, it just freaks me out a little bit. So they would park the Iron Man thing.

139.39 - 146.24 Brenda Dennehy

Unless it was in a lake. You'd definitely do it. You would definitely, definitely do it. You might take me on for lessons after this.

146.26 - 147.783 Mags Harty

Oh, not a bother. We'd throw you in.

0

147.803 - 166.111 Brenda Dennehy

Oh, brilliant. Michelle Smith back again. Go on, Michelle Smith. Go on, Michelle Smith. Mags, I'm delighted to have you here. Thank you. We've been trying to do this for a while. We're doing this in Red FM after I was working on the show earlier. And yourself and your gorgeous little girl and your husband Bernard are outside. And Mags went to the Fancy Duns. First time going to the Fancy Duns.

166.392 - 166.652 Brenda Dennehy

Yeah.

167.013 - 167.113

Yeah.

167.093 - 168.115 Mags Harty

Never again, no.

168.295 - 172.883 Brenda Dennehy

Why, because of the traffic? Hold on, no, inside, it's lovely because we're very proud of the fancy dunce here. Oh, inside, it's beautiful. Yeah.

Chapter 7: What role did support systems play in Mags' journey?

518.6 - 538.706 Brenda Dennehy

Definitely wasn't your wedding anyway because I was sober then so it was and this was pre-2010 that I did it. 2018. Okay, that's grand so. Oh my God. I see there's a lot of people did that. Oh my God. Well, fabulous. So you always wanted to be a mother. Always. And you are, I can just see you motherly now.

0

539.587 - 560.384 Brenda Dennehy

Even when I met you actually and you didn't, you know, you weren't a mother when you were giving me the lessons four years ago actually. It's four years ago when I left for London. there was something motherly instinct in you. Do you know, I don't know what it was. There was just, there is something in you. It's your aura. It's a very beautiful aura. And I mean that very caring, very caring.

0

560.404 - 577.243 Brenda Dennehy

Like I can see why no Deirdre would count you as one of her best friends because I know if there's something wrong with me, I could ring you straight away and you'd be like, don't worry Brenda, it's going to be okay. Or you drop everything for me and come over to Bradley Desmond. You have that aura about you. There's something. I can fix it. You can fix it. Mags can fix it. Yeah.

577.223 - 594.901 Brenda Dennehy

So you always want to be a mother. So tell me about, did you want to, and I don't want to pry, but we spoke about this yesterday on the phone. Some people might be thinking, oh my God, that's so personal, Brenna, but we spoke about this yesterday when I called you just about coming on. But did you want to, when you got married, say, okay, now it's going to start a family.

594.921 - 597.703 Brenda Dennehy

How soon did you want to begin your family?

597.723 - 620.097 Mags Harty

So we got married in October. We went away to Tin Reef, or Lanzarote, I think, yeah. And we said we'd enjoy the Christmas. and kind of planned in from January onwards and get our family together. So I wanted to get things in order. So I went up to my doctor because my mother kept on telling me that I was allergic to penicillin. So I said, you know, I'm going to go and get tested for penicillin.

620.678 - 648.127 Mags Harty

So I went up anyway, got tested, and then he rang me a couple of days later, the doctor. And I was actually bringing my friend into town for her her Christmas party. And he said, I have the results. He said, do you want to come up? I said, yeah, I haven't had to bother. So I went up, left the ignition on the whole lot. My friend was inside the car and I ran in and he said, so I have your results.
