20 May 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 11.226 Holly Egerton

Where do I even start? Okay, so this conversation, it needs no introduction in the sense that it is full of so much juicy relationship, money, drama.

Chapter 2: What is the story behind Holly's property journey?

11.506 - 34.883 Holly Egerton

And I just, I'm not sure how much to say here. All I want you to know is this conversation is fascinating, shocking. I swore a lot. So I apologize in advance if you are listening with children in the car. We actually decided to not beep a lot of it out because it's kind of part of the story, if I'm being honest. I'm not proud of how much I'm swearing at the moment. Going to try and rein that in.

35.044 - 43.222 Holly Egerton

But I will say, I think this conversation needed a few F-bombs and a few S-bombs. Anyway, you know what I mean.

Chapter 3: How did Holly navigate the financial aspects of her relationship?

43.362 - 57.346 Holly Egerton

Potentially one of the most wild stories we've had on the podcast. I think we're going to have to get Holly back on to hear about the second property disaster that happened, as well as honestly hearing more about how we can look to protect ourselves from these types of things happening.

Chapter 4: What unexpected event changed everything for Holly and her fiancé?

57.487 - 65.34 Holly Egerton

I will also say, if you listen to this and you think, I know someone else who has the most outrageous story that's kind of along these lines, I...

65.32 - 90.282 Holly Egerton

don't know what it is about relationships and money and things just going absolutely tits up but fascinating so if you'd like to put yourself forward or someone else you know please get in touch because I think not only is it fascinating and stunning entertainment but it's actually really good in terms of learning as well so thank you so much to Holly for being just such a good sport and sharing this so openly enjoy the episode

Welcome to another episode of the Property Podcast. I am loving this series. It's so fun to be able to talk about a different asset class. I mean, it's been years that we've spoken about the stock market. So to be able to really dive into property, I'm loving.

Chapter 5: What legal challenges did Holly face after the breakup?

106.664 - 121.326 Holly Egerton

We just wanted to share a message from our partners, BNZ, who know that home ownership is not a straight line. Sometimes life just does throw you curveballs and there's actually nothing you can do about it. You just have to remember that they're all about supporting you through the hard stuff, not just the highlights.

0

121.346 - 135.713 Holly Egerton

So if you are in a position where you're having a total meltdown or something's not going to plan, just remember that the sooner that you talk to the bank, the more options that you will have. And it is never too late, no matter how dire things feel, to reach out. They are always there to help and not judge.

Chapter 6: How did Holly's court battle unfold over the years?

135.993 - 157.191 Holly Egerton

So whether you're at the start of your journey or you're rebuilding whatever has gone wrong, remember that BNZ has got the tools and the people and they're ready to help you find a way. Thank you so much to BNZ for empowering this podcast and let's get into it. Holly, I'm so excited to have you on the podcast. I wish you could be in London, like in the studio with me.

0

157.852 - 160.695 Unknown

Same. Thank you so much for having me. I wish we could have done this together.

0

160.876 - 168.926 Holly Egerton

Okay. I'm like, there's so many things I want to talk to you about. And there's so many things that I am quite excited to go into quite a bit of detail on.

Chapter 7: What lessons did Holly learn from her experience?

168.966 - 187.245 Holly Egerton

But I thought what might be kind of fun and random and also like slightly childish. For anyone that doesn't know you, can we just pretend you're doing, like, I don't know, a stand-up introduction in front of 20 people you don't know? What sort of things would you say about yourself? Like, honestly, it can be really boring. Like, how old you are, where you live.

0

187.406 - 189.27 Holly Egerton

Yeah, just a little mini introduction.

0

Chapter 8: How can listeners protect themselves financially in relationships?

189.25 - 212.012 Unknown

I am 30 years old, about to turn 31, living in Auckland in a city for the first time in my life with my best friend, who is also called Holly, fun fact. I've been in central Otago for 10 years prior to now, so very small town vibe compared to Auckland city life. I was in Dunedin before that, studying, grew up in a very small farming town.

0

212.072 - 215.075 Holly Egerton

Did you ever grow up thinking, I really want to be a business owner?

0

215.416 - 231.81 Unknown

Never. Never? I didn't even think that was a possible. I didn't grow up thinking I was going to be a lawyer. Like, I grew up in a small farming town. I was working in shearing sheds and dagging gangs. I'm like, what even is that? It's gross. It's like where they clean the sheep's bums and they're called dags. Yeah, so I'm like the farming girl.

0

231.85 - 245.582 Unknown

Like, corporate life, lawyer life was just not in my vicinity or even in my mind growing up. Like, I didn't think that was a possibility. Like, it wasn't even until seventh form in high school, kind of near the end, that I was like, ah.

0

245.562 - 250.449 Holly Egerton

Like, what am I going to do? You went to university and studied law. Correct.

250.729 - 270.597 Unknown

I actually was really struggling. Like, I was not the smart kid at school by any means. Like, I was not the student who was studying. I wasn't, you know, worried about grades. Like, I obviously did okay, but I was definitely not school focused or education focused in the slightest. Like, I was... what parties can we go to this weekend? So good.

270.617 - 284.454 Unknown

In seventh form, we had, I think, one of those careers people who you can do a personality test and it's like a careers advisor and they give you a whole bunch of options on what you could go do. And went and did that and one of the options was law. And I thought, oh, why not?

284.574 - 307.534 Unknown

So went in very, very naively to just university life from not being a student who studied or was trying for merit or excellence or anything like that to then going to Try get into law at Otago University. Yeah, to get into first year, I was very naive. I was still not the studier, the smart kid. Like I didn't know we had textbooks. We were meant to read textbooks all year.

307.694 - 322.567 Unknown

And I found out like a week before our exams that we had all these textbooks and readings that we'd meant to be doing. Stop, that's so funny. I'll try and try my best. And if I get in, it's meant to be. And if I don't, it's not meant to be. And I'll deal with that then. And you got it.
