Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome back.
Chapter 2: Why is returning to the form important in meditation?
In today's meditation, we're going to recover the relaxation form that we've been using as a way into stillness, as a way into deeper meditation practice. We do this regularly so that we might build a strong practice with a good foundation that will allow us to enter into stillness even on those days when perhaps we're slightly more distracted than usual. So let's begin.
Coming into our time of meditation, we do so consciously with awareness, making our ritual gesture, reminding ourselves that this time of meditation is about to take place.
Chapter 3: How can I consciously prepare for meditation?
We take our seat gently with awareness and kindness towards the body.
Chapter 4: How do I acknowledge and release thoughts and emotions?
We feel the contact with our body and the ground, perhaps through the soles of our feet or through our legs, depending on how we are sitting.
Chapter 5: What is the significance of meditating for myself and others?
We sit onto our cushion or into our chair, yielding our weight, allowing the ground, the earth beneath to support us.
Chapter 6: How can I set intentions for my day after meditation?
Imagining a little thread from the crown of our head slowly being reeled in so that our spine stretches and uncurls, lengthens and relaxes.
Chapter 7: What techniques help in noticing my breath during meditation?
Our head positioned properly over the shoulders. The shoulders hanging from the neck. our arms and hands resting on our lap. Finding that stillness that comes from awareness of the breath. Not changing the rhythm of the breath in any way, but just noticing the breath as we breathe in and breathe out. Breathing out, we breathe out all tension, all stress, all anxiety.
Breathing in, we breathe in peace, light, calm, and even healing. Breathing out, we breathe out through every pore of our skin, from the soles of our feet to the crown of our head. Breathing out all tension, all stress. Perhaps even seeing it as a cloud that emerges from the body, dissolves into the air and disappears. Breathing in, we breathe in the warmth of the light of our breath.
Resting in the breath. Resting in the ebb and flow, the rise and fall. And as we breathe, we breathe out all tension, all stress. Feeling the entire body relax. Our feet and legs calm, stable, relaxed. Thighs, hips, pelvis, all loose, relaxed and calm. The pit of the stomach, calm and clear. Picturing it like a clear pool of water, smoothing its surface so there are no ripples, no waves.
Allowing the spine to relax, each vertebrae in place. The shoulders loose and hanging from the neck. Arms, elbows, wrists, fingers and thumbs relaxed. A gentle pulsing heat in the palms of the hands. Even our facial muscles smoothed and relaxed. The jaw loose. The tongue resting in the mouth. touching the back of the top teeth, all the while just breathing in and breathing out.
And aware of the body as it drops into deep relaxation, we say to ourselves, I have a body, but I am more than my body. I have a body, but I am more than my body. All the while just breathing in and breathing out. Breathing in and breathing out. And as we breathe now, we take a few moments to become aware of our emotions and our thoughts.
Aware of the constant movement of emotional reaction and thought movement. Checking in with ourselves, we can ask, how am I in my feelings and in my thoughts? And aware of our feelings and our thoughts, we can say inwardly, I have thoughts, I have feelings. but I am more than my thoughts and my feelings. I have thoughts, I have feelings, but I am more than my thoughts and my feelings.
All the while just breathing in and breathing out. And as we breathe in now, we follow our breath to the very center of our being. To that place of perfect peace and perfect light and perfect warmth. To that place at the very center of our existence that holds us in being.
And as we rest in that place of light and peace, we can say inwardly to ourselves, I am I, a center of pure consciousness and will, a human being, created in love and held in being by divine love. And I choose now to meditate for myself and for all, all the while just breathing in and breathing out, resting in the breath, resting in the body, resting the mind, Resting the heart.
All the while just breathing in and breathing out. Breathing in and breathing out. Breathing in and breathing out.
