So we'll dive into the Dexter Lawrence trade, the Bengals. Top heavy with contracts with their quarterback and two wide receivers and now an interior defensive lineman. But the draft coming up later on this week, of course.
And I think the Bengals have had a first-round pick every year since 1989. And unless something changes, this would be the first year that they might not have a first-round pick. Woo!

Like, I'm not giving him $60 million. Not with what I saw, and it seems like he's regressing. Now, you can say offensive line. You can say injuries to wide receiver. I understand all of that.

Chapter 3: What are the reactions to the Clippers vs. Thunder trade?
You know, they extend you normally after three years. Yes. Yes. You can. Joe Burrow. Josh Allen. You can do that. In this particular instance, I'm not doing it. I've got to see something more. Yes, Paulie.
If you go back to his rookie year, he could have got the contract extension then, but it's not available. His rookie year, 4,100 yards, 23 touchdowns, only five picks. He was eighth in the MVP voting, eighth. But last year, 3,000 yards, 19 touchdowns, eight picks.
And like you said, this is the spring where it's either you extend them a year early, like Mahomes or Burrow or Josh Allen, or you wait for that fourth year and let it play out.
And if he happens to play great and you extend him, good for him. But what did I say about Tua? Don't do it. How did that work out? What did I say about Kyler Murray? Don't do it. How did that work out? What did I say about Daniel Jones? Don't do it. How did that work out? Patience. At that position, patience. Yes, Mark.
And Troy Aikman, during the broadcast of the Patriots-Texans game, he even talked about they have real questions about whether or not to extend C.J. Stroud. So it's not just you saying that.
I know, but whenever I would hear Texan fans will call up, what do you got against CJ? You know, they had injury. I understand all of that. But when you fumble, as many times as he fumbled, that have to do with injuries? That's just you. And some of those passes against the Patriots where you're going, what are you doing? And I'll go back to when he was in college.
And look, I co-signed on it and said, man, that guy is a great player. The potential to be a great player. And I think it's still there. But you just saw Will Anderson get extended. And I wonder what C.J. Stroud and his agent, their angle is going to be. Would you sign for something a little less if they're willing to give you that? Or do you bet on yourself? We'll take a break.

Chapter 5: How does the trade impact the Bengals' future?

I mentioned the Dexter Lawrence trade to the Bengals, and the Bengals are giving up the 10th pick in the draft. Dexter Lawrence is 28 and making just under $30 million. Now, there are defensive players that you can take, get them on a rookie deal.
When Dexter Lawrence is good, he's really good. But I've got to keep him on the field. When he's on the field over the last three years, the Giants' 8th in sack rate, 15th in pressure rate. Okay, I'm fine with that. But at that age, I think if he was 25, then I'd be more interested than he's 28. Now, I'm giving up the 10th pick overall.
I've got my quarterback and my two receivers, and now I have my interior defensive lineman. Now, they had to do something defensively. Now, they screwed up the Trey Hendrickson situation. Let him go. You don't get anything in return for him, but you get a compensatory pick there.
But either you're going to keep him or trade him, then he ends up going to Baltimore, so he stays in the division against you. I didn't like the move for the Bengals. But they want to do something now because Joe Burrow is like, hey, let's do something now. It feels like there's an urgency with Joe Burrow being on the clock.
That you went to a Super Bowl and it seems like you're getting further and further away. You've got to stay healthy. You do have two great receivers. But... And maybe this is one of those, hey, we got to do something here. Dexter Lawrence wanted out of New York, wants to be compensated. And did they give him a contract extension, I believe? Or are they going to?
Trent Williams just got a contract extension. Shefty reporting that two-year deal, $50 million, I think, with the 49ers. Yes, Paul?

Chapter 6: How does Wembanyama's performance affect MVP discussions?
So Terry Pendleton has an MVP. Josh Donaldson has an MVP award. Kevin Mitchell has an MVP award in MLB, right?
So it's whoever's having the best season. So it's not like a narrative competition. The NBA is more narrative-driven as far as the MVP more than any other league for me. I'm going to give you a bloop for bringing up, you know, Kevin Mitchell. Terry Pendleton. My Atlanta – oh, man, I remember that. And I was like, wow. I'm sorry. I can't give Terry Pendleton the MVP. I'm sorry. I can't, Marvin.
I can't. But he got it, though. He did.
He did. He did. Yeah, Paul. But if you're a guy like Luka, who didn't even make the top three finalists this year, it does feel like there's no way for him to do it. That year with Dallas, what was that, two years ago? When they went to the final. Yeah. He averaged 34.
Jeez.
34, 9, and 10. And he finished in third. He couldn't even get second. This year, 33-and-a-half, 8-and-8, and did not make the final three.
But this is what's happened. Now all of a sudden he doesn't play defense. I never heard that was – now, that might be part of the reason why Dallas got rid of him, that he was getting heavy, he was lazy on defense, but he was still putting up offensive numbers. Now, he plays for the Lakers, so he's always going to be in mainstream media.
They're always going to be talking about the Lakers because it's the Lakers. Can he win an MVP in his career? If you don't win the MVP, now, if they'd taken that vote after he took his team to the NBA Finals, then he's going to be the MVP. But it feels like there is a narrative to him. You know, Joker doesn't play defense.
I didn't hear that when he was winning the MVPs, but now Wade didn't play defense.

Chapter 7: Who are the top contenders for the NBA MVP this year?
Well, Victor Wembenyama plays defense, and he's becoming a very good offensive player. He's almost becoming the Otani of the NBA because he's great at two different things, offensively and defensively. And there's nobody like him. Michael Jordan was the best defensive player and the best offensive player for years. They had to go out of their way to go, well...
the Suns have the better record, or the Jazz have the better. There was nobody more valuable than Mike. Nobody. Even those players, if you said, who is the best player in the league, they would say, well, Mike is. But we were like, I don't know, how about Carl Malone for an MVP?
Chapter 8: What makes Jokic a strong MVP candidate?
Now, they did have great stats, but they weren't more valuable than Mike. Yes, Marvin. On and off the floor. The most valuable, bar none.
And even so, the beginning of the Reggie Miller 30 for 30, it starts out with Michael Jordan retiring. They were like, oh, it's open. Somebody else can win the NBA title. That's how the 30 for 30 started.
That's how dominant he was. And then you give Charles Barkley and Carmelo an MVP award? I know. You got to get a new guy. I know. That's another guy that never won three straight MVP awards, by the way. Mike didn't.

And then Corbin Carroll... is third on that list, as Paulie Googles Corbin Carroll. At least I'm honest. I saw you immediately start typing. I know who he is. I just had to double-check the team. Corbin Carroll, plus 1,600. Ronald Acuna Jr., the third, plus 1,000.
Shohei Otani, minus 300. Corbin Carroll, Paulie. Yeah, baseball player. Yeah. Always odds? Yeah. No, no. Who does he play for? Arizona Diamondbacks. Okay, there you go.
