Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human.
Hey guys, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but you know. Tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports, and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source
the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And for more, follow TimboSlicelife12 and the TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok.

Chapter 2: What are the key highlights from the Thunder vs. Spurs game?
I mean, we've seen some brilliant highlights with Otani already. But his highlights aren't like Wemby's. He might hit a home run. He might strike out seven in five innings. But okay, Wemby can go 41-24 and have 10 blocks. That hasn't happened. Now, I know we're seeing Otani do both of these things simultaneously, but Wemby plays defense as well. I mean, he's playing offense and defense.
Otani, when you're pitching and hitting, playing offense and defense. So I would think dramatic moments, it would be Wemby. Yes, Dylan. But if you're a basketball player, you are supposed to play offense and defense, right? Some guys just don't. Yeah. But he plays at a higher level than anybody. Like, Otani's not the best pitcher in baseball.
But he can pitch like he's the best pitcher in baseball. There's nobody like Wenby. Wenby's the best defensive player, not even close. And then offensively, he holds his own. And he's just learning at 22. What's Otani? 28? Does that sound about right? Oh, how old, Paulie? He's 31. Okay, wow. He got started a little late. Yeah. Yeah, Paul.
I think the key to this poll question is the word amazement. Like when Benyama had a play last night, he had a right-handed runner.
It rims out, and he reached across the lane and tipped it in with his left hand, and even Reggie Miller goes, what was that?
Because his hand just kind of comes out of nowhere, this long broomstick arm, and he tipped it from the backside.
So that's amazement. I think what Otani has, Otani's like the first guy on the moon. He's setting all these records, you know... leadoff hitter to pitch five innings in a game and get a win. No one's ever done it before.
Babe Ruth never let off.

Chapter 3: What role does depth play in the Thunder's playoff success?
He pitched. He never let off. So he's going to have all these records that are not just unbreakable. No one's even going to have the chance to do it. Ohtani led off the game with a home run, then five shutout innings. Since joining the Dodgers in 2024, he has 21 home runs to lead off a game, most by any player in baseball. But once again, when you're thinking about wow moments,
Otani is just great. I mean, he's a great pitcher and great hitter, but Wemby gives you, he's going to give you far more highlights, moments where you go, ooh, haven't seen that before. And it almost looked like somebody else's hand was up there on that play. Like Wemby had three arms, three hands up there. And when Reggie is going, what was that?
These guys have been around the game for a long, long time. But I think that's an interesting poll question to see how people respond. Yes, Dylan? Even just looking at this current MLB season, Otani is the overwhelming favorite for MVP again as a hitter, and he has the third-best odds to win the Cy Young as a pitcher.
Well, we've seen players, Michael Jordan, he won the MVP and he was Defensive Player of the Year. And Wemby will be both one year. So that would be, I guess, the comp. So we've seen this before in the NBA, what Wemby's trying to do. Also, they have that video to the side of Wemby when SGA was getting his MVP award. And you could see, and they said, is Wemby mean mugging SGA as he gets his MVP?
Like, all right, better enjoy it now because those are mine moving forward. Yes, Dylan. Being an MVP and Defensive Player of the Year feels more attainable to me than an MVP and Cy Young in baseball. Yes. Well, nobody's been able to try it. Yeah, exactly. Nobody's gotten a chance. Like, Skeens was a great college hitter. They're not even letting him bat for the Pirates.
I would love to see somebody. I think we'll see somebody because, and it might not be now, might be 10 years from now, but somebody will be inspired by Otani. But you also have to have a team that's willing to let you do both. And the Angels were going to do that. And, of course, the Dodgers. Yes, Paulie?
And the comp for Otani would be Travis Hunter playing with Jacksonville. But even there, they let him split offense-defense one season. Now it's going to be mostly defense and a little offense. At some point in his career, he's going to be all defense and a touch of offense.
Yes, Marvin? Not to be a killjoy, but pitchers have won the league MVP. What you're saying is a great offensive player that also pitches, correct? Yes. All right. Yeah. I don't want to be a killjoy. Sorry. Yeah. But Willie Hernandez of the Tigers back in 1984. Justin Verlander. Yeah, yeah. I hate when somebody says a pitcher can't be most valuable. Like, they have their own award. Okay.
It's not like pitchers say, hey, we need our award, you know, if we can't be MVP. Yes, Dylan. Do you think we would be more likely to see another Wemby first or another Otani first? Obviously, there's a genetic component to the Wemba Nyama, like, in terms of, like, being 7'5". But... Right now, I would say Wemby. Right now, I would say Wemby.

Chapter 4: How do injuries impact the Spurs' chances in the series?
That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source. the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear, the laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight reel.

I think we stumbled into a nice poll question for the first hour, courtesy of Fritzy. How are you phrasing this, wording this, Dylan? I worded it exactly as Todd sent it. So it says, when their careers are over, who will we remember with more amazement? Amazement. Amazement. I'll say Wemby just because he's what we're seeing from somebody that big do it. I think that's the surprising part of it.
Wow. Yeah, that's an interesting question. Yeah, Dale. Would you like some early results? Because I put it up. Yeah. So far, 73.2% of people say Shohei Otani. Okay. Okay. Well, he's going to be an all-time great. He's going to be a Hall of Famer. Who knows how many MVPs he's going to win, so you've got to factor that in.
But if you're talking about truly amazing, we've seen Otani, so I don't know if we're amazed anymore. Hopefully we appreciate this, but he's risen to that level where you go, oh, he homered last night. Oh, he had five shutout innings. Okay. Okay. It used to be where you're like, God, and he hit a home run and he pitched seven innings.
And the fact that Dave Roberts joined us in spring training and the Dodger manager goes, it's really important for him to win the Cy Young. And if he does so, he'll win the MVP as well. Yeah, Paulie. I feel like I'm leaning Otani on this for a couple reasons. He's probably going to be in the World Series a handful of more times with the Dodgers. He's probably going to get at least two more MVPs.
And there's going to be a point where, not too long in the future, when we say greatest baseball player of all time, he and Babe Ruth are going to be right in the mix together.
And I never thought Babe Ruth would ever have company. Wemby, the one fear I have is injury. Man, he's cooking. He's looking great. But seven four guys in longevity hasn't worked out. And I'm not trying to be a jinx or anything. It's just like Ohtani's got a lot in the tank already. Okay, but when are you amazed by him? Amazed is the key word here.

Chapter 5: What makes Wembanyama's playing style unique in the NBA?
Play it again, Marvin.
What kind of impact did Isaiah have tonight?
I'm not sure if it was good, to be honest. Yeah. Break that down for me. Say again? Break that down for me. Why was his impact not good? It was all right. It was good. It was good. Yeah, we wanted to switch it up, give him different looks. Yeah, that's what it's about. When you play against good players, you got to switch it up.
Make sure the rhythm's not the same, and we did that tonight.
Oh, you guys are going to throw the BS flag on that, huh? Yes, Todd?
She gave him an out to, like, are you sure you want to say what you just said, by re-asking the question?
And then Shay even said, and then I gave the, quote, right answer after I wasn't sure what she asked me.

Chapter 6: How do Victor Wembanyama and Shohei Ohtani compare as sports 'unicorns'?
Well, the to be honest part of that doesn't help his case there. Yes, Dylan? If he misheard the question, what did he think the question was? Because he was still saying someone wasn't doing what they're supposed to do. I think he was talking about maybe their effort.
But once again, when I hear it again, it feels like he maybe didn't realize the game that Isaiah Hartenstein had, other than getting dunked on by Stephon Castle. But I thought Isaiah Hartenstein gave them minutes, gave them energy, and kind of.
I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt because he was talking glowingly about him in the press conference even before that question was asked about him, you know, mishearing Zora's question. Okay. All right. Paulie, I can tell by your face. When he said, to be honest, it felt like a guy accidentally being honest with an opinion of a teammate after a game, after a tough game.
SGA is a smart dude, as smart as it gets. Yeah, but why would you answer it that way after a win where, I mean, just give us a standard answer there of, man, love is energy. Yep, everybody played well, the bench played well, and we look forward to going to San Antonio. I mean, I don't know if SGA is a quote machine here where he's always going to give you an honest answer.
I don't find too many of his answers floating out there where I go, did you hear what SGA had to say? Yes, Paul. Hartenstein didn't have a huge game one, a good game two. I don't know.
Maybe it was pending frustration, and when his name was brought up, he was honest. It sounds honest.
Okay. You're just a hater. You know me. Isaiah Hartenstein I've always had an issue with. Zach in Knoxville leads us off. Good morning, Zach. What's on your mind today?
ADP, thanks for taking my call. I just want to take a victory lap real quick because when you had Reggie on, he brought up the Chet Holmgren guarding, excuse me, guarding Wendy. And then Tim Lake would have bringing up the switching screens with the Cavs and That's why you have the smartest, best-looking, and most modest listeners in all of sports talk.
But I wanted to ask you if you think that the Thunder should sit Jalen Williams for the rest of the series. It kind of looks like A.J. Mitchell has solidified himself as the number two option there.
