As we are waxing poetically here on this Tuesday morning, talking all things NBA with the playoffs and Steve Kerr and what the hell is going to happen there. Billy Donovan just walked away from the Bulls job. He has resigned as head coach.
Chapter 4: Which college players are generating buzz for the upcoming NFL draft?
So now we continue the journey on. We're going to hopefully catch up with our guy Bruce Feldman here, who does a deep dive before the draft to get the feedback from scouts, executives about what the feeling is on some of these prospects with the NFL draft coming up. And Bruce really connected and does a really good job of gathering this information. A true deep dive.
If you're a football nerd and you want to find out the ins and outs of this draft, he's broken down just about every angle and every position there is. One of the coolest things Bruce does is he's got the freaks list that usually comes out before every college football season.
And it's basically kind of paints out a light on just the freaky athleticism you'll see from a lot of the different players. Could be strength, could be movement, could be explosion, whatever it is. He finds a way of tapping into that and talking to a lot of the different college coaching staffs, etc.
But this time of year, what's neat is he then applies that same approach, talking to a lot of the NFL teams. and some of the coaching staffs and some of the front office folks about what they see in these players.
And so a lot of that stuff, you know, if you follow them for the college game, you'll see some of those same names pop up, too, that are that freaky athleticism that you're looking for at the next level. So let's welcome him in. He is Bruce Feldman. You see him on Fox.

Chapter 5: How are running backs valued in the current draft landscape?
You can read him at The Athletic. Best-selling author, and you can get him on X at Bruce Feldman CFB. Bruce, thanks so much for the time. How are we doing?
Doing great. Good to be on with you guys. Thanks for having me.
Absolutely. All right, so what goes into the anonymous NFL draft intel? When does the process start for you, and how long does it take you to gather this information to put this together? Because it's awesome.
Yeah, thank you. It really starts at the combine. I go every year. I love going to it.
Chapter 6: What trends are emerging in linebacker selections for the draft?
And, you know, as you guys know, it's like a lot of college coaches are now coaching in the NFL. Wasn't that long ago, like Mike McDonald was, you know, I think Brady and I were around him when he was Michigan's defensive coordinator. You know, and it's like, so you see a lot of that. So it's helped me where... you know, I know a ton of guys now who are working in the NFL.
And so I start really just kind of talking to different people at the combine, but really it ramps up over the last two weeks because at the combine, honestly, at that point, unless you're, unless they're the scouts, if they're the really the position coaches, I'm not sure how much digging they've done some interviews, but that's, you know, like it really picks up over the, really in the last two weeks.
And so, you know, one of the best, um, guys I talked to for this, it's a DB coach. I didn't get, we didn't end up syncing up till Sunday morning. And by that point, a lot of the piece was written, but I was like, all right, we got to make room for this guy. Cause it's just, there's just a ton of great insight that these guys have on things. And it's interesting.
Cause like there'll be more than a handful of guys like Keldrick Fawkes certainly fits in this category where their 2024 film is better than the 2025 film, you know? And it's just, how guys are used.
Chapter 7: What challenges do quarterbacks face transitioning to the NFL?
There's just a lot that goes into it. It's not, you know, they're not always going to be right, but their perspective is really fascinating to hear about.
Bruce, who are you most curious or maybe even excited to see where he gets drafted coming up starting Thursday?
You know, I'm interested to see what, where Jeremiah love goes, you know, I'm not just saying it because obviously he's another team guy now, but like, To me, he is so much better than anybody else at this position. He had less carries in the last two years combined than Ashton Gentry did in his last year at Boise State.
One of the personnel directors I talked to in the NFL was like, man, I didn't think he was Bichon, but then you look. He runs with more violence. He is that explosive. He's a great pass protector. He could be a receiver. I just think he's a phenomenal player. It's not to say there aren't going to be other good running backs in the draft, but I just think...
I know running backs typically are not going in the top five range unless people think they're really special. I think he's really special.

Chapter 8: What is the latest news on Jimmy Garoppolo's potential retirement?
And I don't think this is a, you know, I'd say there was like three guys outside of him that I feel like really, really confident in. Orville Reese from Ohio State. I like David Bailey. You know, but then it's really, really on love. I just think he's going to be such a fun player to watch in the NFL.
I think it's a great segue to the LB position. RBs are not generally very highly valued. We had this conversation on the show maybe yesterday, maybe last week, Bruce, but I'm curious... Is the linebacker position, the off-the-ball linebacker position, because I know you're high on Lorenzo Stiles, is that a position that's becoming a luxury pick versus being a priority pick in the early round?
Yeah, I just think we're not seeing as many guys like that LaVar. It's like the game has changed a lot. But then you talk to coaches in the NFL and they're like, you know, and this comes up a lot when we're talking about edge rushers to where it's like now guys are running the football to run the football. They're not just running to set up the run. So it's like, as you know, it's like it's.
It's pretty cyclical, but like Sonny styles. I mean, when you see him, he looks just way different. I mean, he was actually a safety for a little while at Ohio state, but just, you know, crazy range and athleticism. Like he was as much of a freaks list guy as I've had, but, Really good players grown into the position.
You know, I don't want to say like some of the Thunders was stolen by Arvel Reese because he's just had such a spectacular first season as a starter. But then you talk to coaches and they're like, you know, there are other good options. linebackers in there, right? It's just his traits are crazy to see what he can do.
And you start to sit back and wonder, okay, how does this guy, how will he be utilized? But then there's guys I've talked to who are like, there's probably... It's not a bad draft for linebackers. Yes, he is the headliner, but then you get some really other good guys. Jacob Rodriguez was the guy who Texas Tech had a fantastic 2025 season. They spent a lot of money on the D-line.
He was able to roam. The ball finds him or he finds it at an incredibly high rate. It's just... I think there's going to be guys you can get in there. Jake Golday started his career out at Central Arkansas, went to Cincinnati, really high-level guy. Alan from Georgia, really productive player who ran better than people thought.
I think it's a pretty good draft, but you have one guy who I think people look at and go, oh, he's really intriguing just because the length and the athleticism is off the charts.
Bruce Feldman, reporter for The Athletic, Fox College Football Insider with us here on the Dan Patrick Show. It is two pros and a cup of Joe filling in for Dan and the guys here on FSR. I'm curious. So Fernando Mendoza, obviously, it's a foregone conclusion at this point. He's going to go number one overall to the Raiders. Have you...
