The Dan Patrick Show
HOUR 3 – Dan makes Derby picks, Steve Kerr didn’t hinder Draymond Green
01 May 2026
Chapter 1: What are the unique horse facts shared before the Derby picks?
This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win.
A win is a win. I don't care what y'all say. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor IV. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to The Clifford Show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok.
On the Look Back At It podcast. 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year.

Chapter 2: What are the different perspectives on whether horses know they're racing?
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to Look Back at It on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Keir Gaines.
This space is about Black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men...
carry a suit of armor it signals to the world that you not to be played with and just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to listen to learn the hard way on the iHeartRadio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. It is a meat Friday. Final hour. Dan and the Danettes. Dan Patrick Show. Just went out to inspect the Rec Tech Grills. Chimichurri Wagyu Ribeye Tacos. Pork Carnitas Tacos. Lobster Tostados. And our drink of choice, the Spicy Miller Lighteritas, as we honor... The Cinco de Mayo holiday, a couple days early.
All of the meats provided by Heartland Steak Co. By the way, first Saturday in May, this Saturday, high fashion meets high stakes. If you're watching on Peacock, you'll notice the Danettes all have their derby hats on. Wow. By the way, who has it better than we do? Did we pronounce that correctly? Nadien. Nadien. No, buddy. High fashion meets high stakes.
The Derby, where the real photo op is at the finish line, May 2nd on NBC and Peacock. We will give you our Derby picks.

Chapter 3: How do the hosts make their Kentucky Derby picks?
We don't know what we're talking about, but we'll just fall in love with the name, like most people probably bet at the Derby. 877-3DP-SHOW. Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. We say good morning if you're watching on Peacock. Download the app if you haven't done so. Our radio affiliate says, well, I don't think I've asked for a poll question update yet today.
You have not, Dan, but I have one. All righty. We've got a few. You want me to just crank them out? Marvin's hat today. I look like Damon Wayans from Men on Film. Good call. That's the fascinator. So what's the poll question? All right, so the first one was, would you rather lose by 50 or lose by 1? Kind of like our would you rather be 5 feet tall or 7 foot 9. 67% would rather lose by 1.
Are you a fan of streaming when it comes to live sports? 75% say no. Kind of figured that one. And then, has Steve Kerr hindered Draymond Green's career? 91% say absolutely not. Now, I know Draymond does this to get clicks, and he's done a good job with his podcast, but... Like at some point, it threatens your credibility when you say stupid things.
And I don't think Steve Kerr hindered Draymond Green. If anything, he unleashed him. He found out exactly what he does well. Sometimes you need somebody else to help you help yourself.
Chapter 4: What humorous stories are shared about one-eyed horses?
And that's what Steve did. Steve said, you're going to be a point forward. You're going to run the offense. Unheard of. And so he did it, and he was their best passer. He would usually lead them and assist. He was a great defender, spirited, a nuisance, tough guy. You know, he was a lot of different things there.
But Steve Kerr had to unlock that and say to Draymond, this is what you're going to mean and do for this show. And if you do it well, you're going to be a Hall of Famer because we'll win championships here. You play defense, you facilitate. But for Draymond to think that Steve Kerr... We had Austin Rivers on, former NBA player, now an analyst for NBC, and he said, that's crazy.
You're not running a play for Draymond Green. And would Draymond Green rather have averaged 21-10 for the Wizards? Or win championships and be a Hall of Famer? It's a rhetorical question, of course. Yes, Paulie?
It's like a guy like Chris Bosh. When he was in Toronto, 25 years old, averaging 25 a game, a focal point, an all-star. Then he goes to the Miami Heat. He's down to 18 points a game, but he's going deep into playoffs, and he's relevant. Look at that career.
Yeah, it's a great point. You have to understand. Now, Draymond embraced this. He did embrace the role. but I'm just kind of surprised that you would think that Steve Kerr somehow limited you. In what way? Why would a coach run a play for Draymond Green if you say, I got Steph and Klay?

Chapter 5: What comments did Draymond Green make about Steve Kerr?
Then you bring in Durant. You only need a couple of plays, and all those plays have to do with plays for those guys, not Draymond Green. And, you know, as analysts have said, the teams left Draymond Green open because you were focused. You were like, Draymond, go ahead and shoot. We don't want Stephen Clay and Durant shooting. Austin Rivers said, we leave Draymond open. Yes, Marvin.
It's almost like if James Worthy said, Pat Riley hindered my career. Like, I have Magic. I have Kareem. And people know James Worthy more so on the Lakers than if he was a Cleveland Cavalier in the 80s scoring 29 a game. He would have been probably like Adrian Dantley or somebody like that.
Yeah, I mean, would James Worthy have averaged 25 on any other team? Probably so. But that's where you go, okay, I'm winning championships. That's the most important thing. I'm getting rewarded, winning championships, and as a result, I'm playing in big games, big moments, and I'm going to be a Hall of Famer. But, you know, it's... I normally don't – I kind of listen to Draymond.
I don't put much into it, much stock into it, because I think he's just trying to get your attention. But I thought it was fun that he somehow thought Steve Kerr somehow held him back. Pistons, 3.5-point favorites tonight against Orlando. Cavs, 3.5-point favorites against the Raptors. The Lakers getting 3.5 against the Rockets. Austin Rivers, last hour, great appearance by him.
He said, I think the Rockets are better without Kevin Durant in the playoffs. They move the ball. They're not playing iso ball. Now, that's a strong statement. But what he's saying is regular season, you can get by with this.

Chapter 6: How do the hosts respond to Draymond Green's claims?
Postseason, moving the ball and getting everybody involved instead of let's cater to Kevin Durant. Yes, Mark.
That may be the same scenario with the Celtics because now that Jason Tatum's back, you have to cater to him and make sure he gets his shots. And that would suggest, Austin Rivers said it again, a lot of iso ball and not moving the ball around.
The 76ers surprising the Celtics last night. They play Saturday in game seven. The 76ers are eight and a half point underdogs. All righty. It's time for the Derby. You guys look so much better with your derby hats on. It's pretty cute over here, Dan. And what's great is Todd's hiding almost his entire face, which makes it easier on me.
I feel very pretty right now.
Okay. I'm in a good mood. All right, Todd, you got first choice for the derby.
I'm going with the five position right to party because the Beastie Boys were a big deal when I was back in my Lincoln High School days in Brooklyn. So right to party. You got to fight for your right to party. That's my pick.
All right, 26 to 1. Dylan? There are two Bob Baffert-trained horses in this race, Dan, and as you know, we're all big fans of Baffert. Marvin says he looks like Ashley Schaefer from Eastbound and Down. It's pretty spot-on. I'm going to go with Potente. Where is he? The 14 spot. He's about 25 to 1 odds. Okay.

Chapter 7: What insights do callers provide about filling in for Bad Larry?
Oh, I thought you were taking both Bob Baffert horses.
No, no, I was just saying there's two.
I'm taking one of his. Okay. Marvin? I'm going to go with Chief Wallaby.
Oh, no. Paulie, I'm really sorry about that. But Chief Wallaby, love the name. And I think he's got a shot.
All right, 9-1. Well, he's got a shot. He's on the track.
Paul? Yeah, I got to redo my entire board now, Dan. Thanks for that. Sorry. I'm going to go with, because I love the shoes. Oh, the Puma? The Puma. Puma, eight to one. Javier Castellano in the saddle and love his work historically. They're eight to one.
I'm going to take Emerging Market. Emerging Market at 11 to 1, I believe.
Yes, Paul? I've brought this up before. When you have a horse that's named, let's say, Renegade. Hey, Renegade, come on over here. But if your horse's name is Emerging Market, you say, hey, Emerging Market, let's go for a run.

Chapter 8: What are the final thoughts and reflections from the hosts?
I don't think horses come to you knowing their name. Really? They seem smart. I don't know. You don't think Secretariat knew their secretary? Well, Secretariat was different. Like, yeah, probably. He could probably do some math problems. I mean, he probably could do a lot. Like, you know, maybe X's and O's, like he could do that. Tic-tac-toe? Yeah, tic-tac-toe. Playing against Secretariat.
Yes, Dylan. I feel like we should bet these horses, right? If we do like a little exact the box where we've got five options in there. Yeah. For the show. Sure. I'll place it. Yes. And by the way, if you listen to the gambling podcast, shocker, Bad Larry quit in the middle of the podcast yesterday. It's available at danpatrick.com.
Also, the Toddcast, where Fritzie is on the couch with his therapist, Dylan, asking probing questions. And sometimes he doesn't even ask probing questions, but you get that result from Fritzie. Yes, Marvin?
The Toddcast kind of goes like this. Dylan says, your childhood, go.
Yeah.
And then Fritzie goes on for about half hour. Man, did your mom. Screw me up. She did a number on you.
It's very therapeutic. I'm glad this is, if nothing else, this is really, it's kind of helpful when I drive home after we tape it.
Yes, Dylan.
About Bad Larry quitting at halftime. Was that Vontae Davis who quit at halftime during the Bills game? Yes. He Vontae Davis'd us.
