Don Lemon 0:14
Good morning, everybody. Happy Good Friday. Is it a good day? Is it a bad day? And I am, here's the thing. I just said, let's go on. Cause I am just getting, I'm still getting ready. I'm still putting stuff in. So give some people time to come in. Let me know where you are streaming. You're streaming too, right? Or are you listening to a stream? Kind of the same thing. So this is, we're kind of preparing. So hi, producers. Can you tell them that this is what we do beforehand, right? Say hi, everybody. Hey there. Hello. So we talk through the show. We go over elements. And I go on to the TikTok. What is our thing again? Trump judge? GOP judge? What is it?
Nikki (producer/host substitute) 1:00
GOP judge owns Trump.
Don Lemon 1:03
GOP judge owns Trump. Hi, everybody. GOP. I'm here. We're just doing something different. Judge... He owns because he does. That's what we're going to talk about. So why don't I just tell you what I did last night, by the way? Oh, shoot. And I forgot to get any pictures, some pictures. And we got we got. What do you call it when you get like pushed out? by Mayor Bloomberg Security. We were supposed to go back and meet George Clooney and the security. I mean, they were just moving so fast that we got pushed out. But anyways, we ended up having dinner. So last night, I ended up going to Good Night and Good Luck, the play on Broadway. And I don't do a lot of Broadway plays because I'm not a musical person, but I do love Broadway.
Don Lemon 1:59
And oh my gosh, guys, if you have not seen it, have you guys seen it? Any of you guys, producers, have you seen it? No, I haven't. It is so good. I think they're going to win everything. It is really, really, really good. The set design, George Clooney is amazing. And I had forgotten that George Clooney did the movie. Do you guys remember that?
Rachel Maddow 2:22
Yeah, I remember we studied it in some of my film classes.
Don Lemon 2:25
Yeah, he did the good night and good luck. But I mean, didn't he do it like just a couple of years ago? He did good night and good luck. So anyway, it's about the journalist Edward R. Murrow. And it's really, I mean, it could have been about the news. It could have been about today. I mean, honestly, it was so freaking good. And, you know, it just goes to show you how history repeats itself and we should learn from it. Because what Senator McCarthy was doing was abominable. It was unconstitutional. And what was our thing yesterday? It was anti-constitutional. And you would think that we would learn our lesson. Roy Cohn was in it, and you know Roy Cohn. Donald Trump's, what was it? That's who he looked up to.
Don Lemon 3:13
That was his mentor. And it was really good. So George Clooney... And a bunch of other actors. What was the name of the show that What's Her Face did with Wanda Sykes? The something Adventures of Christina, whatever her name.
Dan Goldman 3:33
It was The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Don Lemon 3:38
Oh, Christine.

Why does Don Lemon say Good Night, and Good Luck gave him renewed hope about the rule of law?

Don Lemon 3:39
You know, the one who played her ex-husband? Do you remember that guy?
Dan Goldman 3:41
Yes.
Don Lemon 3:42
Kind of handsome, balding. He was the other anchor who was, he would follow... edward r murrow like his newscast would follow edward r murrow's murrow and then uh the guy who did 60 minutes for a long time don hewitt that his character was in there but it was just spectacularly done the cameras like they had everything was like done from the you know when when edward r murrow and was it 50s or 60s hey hey siri google edward r murrow um from that time. And I, we thought like in the beginning, I'm like, gosh, Clooney has to be reading a teleprompter. But because the whole play is really almost all him and he is reciting these new stories and all of these things. And just without, I mean, he is just great.
Don Lemon 4:31
And there were a couple of times I'm like, is he going up on a line or is he just sort of doing it so that he doesn't seem robotic? Whatever it was, though, it was brilliant because he would like, you know, he wasn't perfect. And I'm like, but did Murrow mess up at that point? And like, you know, say extra instead of extraordinary. Like, you know, it was just really, really. Um, so we went to see that. And so, uh, my friend who is the head of the Ford foundation, his name is Darren Walker, got us tickets and we went and, and, um, so we were with mayor Bloomberg and his fiance or wife.
