What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Good morning, Lemonheads. Welcome, welcome, welcome one and all. Welcome to our hot topic show, 10 a.m. Eastern here in New York City, 10 a.m. on the East Coast. So it's 10 a.m. somewhere and it's here on the East Coast. Look, I'm happy that you guys are all here. I just want you to know that. So if I don't do good morning and shout everybody out in a normal way, please don't be upset because we have a big show that we have to get to because we got to talk about Joy Reid, who is a friend. And I have to discuss this. And it's an interesting position that I'm in because I also know many of the people, if not most of the people who are involved, either in taking over Joy's show or who is the new boss at MSNBC.
So let me just be honest. Okay, so I know Joy. When the thing happened with me at CNN, she was extremely supportive. She saw around the corners. She knew exactly what was happening with me. And she was very, very, very supportive. There were two people who were very supportive of me. Two folks. And I say that I'm giving balloons because there were two people who were very supportive. And that is Joy Reid and Sonny Hostin. I may be missing one or two others, but I don't remember anybody else publicly speaking out, supporting, putting their necks on the line, having discussions on television about it in a way that was appropriate and honest and candid about me and who I am. Many of the people who I stood up for, who I gave opportunities to, nothing, quiet, shh.
Quiet, quiet, quiet. Nothing happened. Quiet as mouse. A lot of folks. I was surprised, not shocked. A little surprising. And so in all of this, I must pay homage to my friend and I must support her. Not knowing everything that's going on behind the scenes, but knowing how this system works and how these networks will purge. I've been telling you guys this forever. Remember I said mark my words that folks from center, left, center, right, moderate, non-Trump voices, people who hold the MAGA folks accountable, people who don't like putting liars and insurrectionists and racists and bigots and the like on their air, they're going to be gone. And see, it's happening. And so I got to stand up for her and I have to talk about her because I do think
that she gave, that there's a place for the network for her, and there is a place for a voice like hers, and folks should be willing and open to listen to voices like that, no matter what. You may not like what she has to say, but as long as she's speaking from a place of truth, then I think there's a place for her. I think there's a place for all of us. I think there's a place for people who are pro-Black, Blackity Black, unapologetically Black, speaking for Black people in ways that many are afraid to do because they don't want to lose their jobs, even if they're Black. Do you guys, do you hear me? Oh, we're going there this morning. Even if they're black. I love when folks used to send me unapologetically black sweatshirts and mugs and all kinds of things at CNN.
Unapologetically black was Joy Reid. Not racist. Just because you speak something pro-black does not mean that you're anti-white. Do you guys understand what I'm saying? My grandma, I have white people in my family. My husband is white. Just because you speak pro-black and you understand that African-Americans, black folks, have a unique history in this country that no one else has. Everyone else was either a native person whose land was stolen away from them, or an immigrant willing to come to this country except for black people, except for African Americans, except for people who came out of slavery. Are you guys listening to me? If you're not ready for this, I would never say this in a million years, but if you're not ready for this, then click off.
I don't care if you think that I'm gonna, I'm not race baiting by pointing out facts. Okay? Now, I don't believe, honestly, I'm just going to be real honest about this. I don't believe that this was easy for Rebecca Cutler to do this. I know Rebecca Cutler. Her first EP job was with me.
