Who is Pam Bondi and how does she introduce her background and prosecutorial record?
Fortitude and temperance for this incredibly important job. Mr. Chairman, it is truly an honor for me to introduce Pam Bondi to this committee and to our country here today.
Jake and soon-to-be niece Savannah, my brother Brad, a brilliant lawyer, my sister-in-law Tandy, and my nephews Justin, who just got a 4.0 at UVA, Rex, great college tennis player, Brad, great tennis player, Is Ria here? And my niece, my beautiful niece Ria. And the little guy is in school because he's 10. My friends, Leslie, Kathy, Dina, Tiffany, Kim, Paula, and so many of my former co-workers. And ranking member Durbin, if you want to get dirt on me, these women have known me since I was a child. Seriously, most of them. Thank you for indulging me in that they've all made a very long trip to be here. And thank you for for holding my hearing as well and not postponing it. I appreciate that. Thank you all.
From the moment I interned at the state attorney's office in Tampa, Florida, all I wanted to do was be a prosecutor. The Supreme Court certified me, and I had four jury trials while still in law school. Lost most of them, but had four jury trials and never wanted to do anything else. I continued my career there, trying everything from DUIs, domestic violence cases, capital murder cases, the whole gamut. I became a lead trial attorney in courtroom every day, trying career criminals with deputy... chief of a division and then ultimately was felony bureau chief and eventually left to become Florida's 37th Attorney General for the state of Florida. Nothing has impacted my career more than my experience as a state prosecutor because I got to know and still keep in touch with many victims
and their families from when I was a prosecutor. Good morning, everyone. We're watching the confirmation hearing of Pam Bondi, the Florida Attorney General, now wanting to be the Attorney General of the United States, introducing herself, introducing her family. Senator Dick Durbin introduced her. There are some controversial things about her that we will go over, including... being a party to a fake fraudulent elector scheme, at least carrying the water for Donald Trump and saying that there was something nefarious about the 2020 election. Pam Bodney is a Trump acolyte, a very, very MAGA type Republican. The reason she is here, remember, Matt Gaetz got knocked out of it because of all of the allegations against him and the scathing congressional investigative report on who he is.
Now, again, we our mission here is to be honest about this, but also this is not normal. These are not normal picks. So good morning. I am in Washington, D.C. I told you that I would be on the road. I am in Washington, D.C. I'm here to see what's going on in Washington before the Biden administration leaves, but also to do an event on media at the National Press Club. So I am their honored guest this morning to talk about the press and to talk about independent media and about they have been really enamored and intrigued. by the platform that we have built here. As we speak to folks who are in this, the YouTube of the world, the streamers, the Spotify's of the world, the TikToks of the world, we're pioneers in doing live news coverage on these platforms and the National Press Club wants to talk to me about that.
So I think that's a very big indeed honor and I will be there today and we'll put up how you can tune in. There's a link where you can tune in and watch as well. Another MAGA dog and pony show. Absolutely. Was Matt Gaetz a plant so she would be a shoe-in, says Lunda Smart. Hey, listen, that is a very good question. That's what folks have posited, that they thought that perhaps Donald Trump thought it would be easier to get a Pam Bondi in, and so he put Matt Gaetz up. But I'm not so sure that is.
What controversies about Pam Bondi’s ties to Trump and the 2020 election are raised during the hearing?
Matt Gaetz, he was hoping... to get someone in who could just take all of these cases that are against him, these legal cases, and just throw them out as Attorney General. The Attorney General has the ability to be able to do that. Remember, Merrick Garland, folks are not happy about him because they believe that he should have gotten to work on prosecuting Donald Trump earlier for January 6th and for trying to overturn an election, and that he did it so late that Donald Trump was able to run out the clock, which he did, and become President of the United States.
