And we have a very interesting, I think a great show and a great group of people to talk about it with. As you know, the current vice president and now Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been, you know, the former president went to NABJ yesterday, National Association of Black Journalists Convention, spoke and then pretended not to know that the vice president is black, right?
Saying, I thought she was Indian. So anyway, I think it's a targeted attack. I'm joined now by Tara Setmar. She's a co-founder and CEO of the Seneca Project, an MSNBC contributor, and a dear friend of mine and a friend of the show. Same thing with Charles Blow, New York Times columnist and MSNBC political analyst, a dear friend of mine, old friend, and friend of the show. And then Sanjat Danyang, right? Did I say that, Sanjat?

So thank you all for joining us. I just want to tell, how are you guys doing? How are you feeling after yesterday? How are you feeling, Ms. Tara Setmeyer?
Well, I mean, I've been pretty energized for a while now, despite all of the political ups and downs that have been going on, because the assault on women's rights doesn't matter who's at the top of whose ticket. It's still happening. So we have been focused and in galvanizing women. And now that Kamala Harris is at the top of the ticket and watching MAGA implode and Donald Trump just become completely undone. choosing his mega, mega misogynist, JD Vance, and then going off on that rant yesterday and all of the crazy that's happening on social. It's just really reinvigorating to go enjoy this fight because I got to tell you, Don, you know, and you and I have been friends for years. I've been coming on your shows for years and,
I'm biracial and, you know, the having to explain identity and who's black enough or not. I mean, I got all kinds of the worst insults from both sides because when I was back as a Republican, black folks were real mad at me. And then when I decided to, you know, become a never Trumper and stand up against Trump, the the racial insults from the right have been worse than anything I'd ever seen. And so I took particular offense to Donald Trump's behavior yesterday and him now tripling down on this whole thing about Kamala Harris's racial identity and trying to call her a phony or a fraud. MAGA doesn't get to define us. They don't. And they don't get to make us feel lesser than because we're not white people.
That's why I hate talking about it because I think it was strategic. I think it was strategic. He couldn't stand the attention not being on him. And I think we're kind of falling for it. I'm actually disappointed. Look, I'm of two minds about NABJ. I think that as reporters, yeah, that's a whole different discussion. I think as reporters, we have an obligation to cover him because he is a former president and he's running to do interviews with him and so on, but not to necessarily be granted a platform like that. I just don't think that anyone is entitled to a platform like that unless you earn it and deserve it. And also, it's a private organization. They don't have to invite him. So I was a little bit surprised that they did it.
Just in case, before we go on, you're living under a rock and you missed it yesterday. During a question and answer session at the National Black Journalist Association Conference in Chicago, the former president insulted the panel of moderators, claimed illegal immigrants are taking, quote, black jobs, declined to say if J.D.
