It affects the algorithm and more people get to witness and become aware of our great channel here and all of the things that go along with being a part of the Lemon Nation. It is lunacy, says Karen Bennett. It is. And it's lunacy, and he's playing with your money. A couple of stories to tell you about, okay? And we have a great guest who you're going to love.
I believe the kind of person that whatever his political background stripes, whether he's Democrat, Republican, or independent, it's the kind of person that they need in politics right now. And some of these old folks who are supposed to be keeping our democracy intact could probably take a lesson from him. He's going to join us in a second. I'll introduce you. Okay, so welcome, my friends, to the Don Lemon Show. So are we in a trade war or are we not in a trade war? Hi, Baton Rouge. Good to see you on. Hi, Tampa. Are we in a trade war or are we not in a trade war? Are we? Because it's like whiplash. Every day we're like, what is happening? We go to the brink of disaster and then pulls back and then crazy.
It's nuts. How could an earnest question like that possibly be good for the stock market? If we don't know, and the people who are covering this like me, if we don't know we're in a trade war, then hey, then what? This afternoon, it's just about an hour ago. Okay, let me tell you guys. So just about an hour ago, President Donald Trump declared on social media that he would allow both Mexico and Canada to avoid tariffs on most exports to the United States for one month. Where are we? Wait, what is going on here? For one month. Now, are we in a trade war? Are we not in a trade war? For one month. Saying that he would exempt products that are traded under the rules of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement. The trade pact he signed the first term.
That is a big Big, relenting of what he wanted. He reneged on what he wanted. Donald Trump blinked. He got played. Actually, the thumbnail says Donald Trump gets played. It should be Donald Trump plays himself because he only has himself to blame on this. The move comes a day after he granted a 30-day reprieve to automakers. Again, him, again, backing off. Blinking. Who had complained to the president that his sweeping 25% tariffs would cause severe damage to U.S. carmakers. Remember, pardon me, we had a... We played you a story or a report live of an automaker in real time saying this truck that the reporter is standing in front of went from $80,000 to $100,000 as soon as Donald Trump said, hey, we are going to enact tariffs on Canada.
Right away, it went up $20,000. So what's up with this intense game of brinksmanship? Why is he toying with the North American economy? Why is he toying with your savings? Why is he toying with your 401k, your retirement, all of that? Why is he toying with it? Why is he doing it? His actions have done nothing but send the Dow Jones tumbling. And to sow anxiety and confusion among industries that depend on trade with Canada and Mexico, which account for more than a quarter of U.S.
